Dp, Dd and i want to go away for Dp's birthday on friday.
We were originally going to go to Scotland on the west coast as we could also visit all his family and friends (he is scottish) but have worked out that we are about 2 hours away from them there.
We want something that will be fun for us and dd (5), we have stayed at a haven holiday park twice, one in wales and one in hastings which were ok but that is all. So please could anyone give me some ideas or share your experiences as we are stuck now! Havent a clue where to go!
We live in liverpool.

What sorts of things do you like doing as a family?

Does it have to be on the coast?

Do you like to have onsite facilities like pools etc, are these essential?
Selfcatering/hotel?
Price range?

Nixz · 21/02/2006 08:50

Hi MB.
No it doesnt have to be on the coast, as a family we like to visit places, go for walks, eat out etc. However, we have a very full time dd so being able to sit and have a good natter is also important therefore parks and swimming pools are essential!!!!!
We were thinking self catering is the best option and we are fairly limited on price. Hoseasons quoted us Approx £240 for 3 night stay which was at the top of our budget.

We went here in Derbyshire

in the october bank holiday and it cost around £250 for 4 nights. It has a pool that you can book for an hour each hay. Most of the cottages have jaccusis! There is a lot to do in the area, walking, pottering around local towns, caves etc. We had a great time. The corrages are excellent....realy top of the range.

Lots of people on MN go camping....but a tad chilly this time of the year!

Did yuo not fancy Derbyshire?

Tommy · 21/02/2006 09:33

We go to Weymouth - lots of fun things to do around there but it will be very cold and windy at this time of year!

Kelly1978 · 21/02/2006 09:35

What about norfolk? I used to live there and we went for a week a couple of years ago. A week is def long enough. There is lots to do, seaside, broads, historic places, etc. Quite a nice area really.
I've worked in Haven there, wouldn't recomend it, unless you can get it cheap, as there isn't much on the park worth paying a lot extra for.

Also been to butlins in skegness, was nice, but sod all around there, so we were pretty limited, espec as we didn't have a car. (I was only 17, went with a mate.)

Kelly1978 · 21/02/2006 09:37

We're thinking about a uk hol around easter too, maybe south coast. We have friends who have been there and said it was really nice. It depends where we can trade the time share for though. We've booked spain for august, but can't wait that long for a break.

nailpolish · 21/02/2006 09:43

crieff hydro has been popular recently, self catering chalets at lots of different prices, lots to do in the area

nailpolish · 21/02/2006 09:45

hunters cabins

Nixz · 21/02/2006 09:47

MB i think that Derbyshire looks lovely but it would bore dd to death walking through towns and stuff on her own (ie without a million other children!)
I love the idea of having a jacuzzi etc, very nice but if dd isnt happy then she will irritate us NON STOP! We need the swimming pool and something to do of an evening really, she never seems to want to play with us really, just other children!

nailpolish · 21/02/2006 09:52

lapsedrunner · 21/02/2006 10:00

This is good and not so far from Liverpool (near Pwlheli)www.gynfrynfarm.co.uk

OldieMum · 21/02/2006 10:01

We stayed here last spring. The cottages are in Pickering, in N. Yorkshire. They are high quality, with gardens and a play area, and are close to the town swimming pool. Pickering is a pretty, small market town. The station for the North York Moors steam railway is within walking distance, as is the local supermarket. There is lots to do nearby (Whitby, Scarborough and York are all about 15 miles away; Riveaulx Abbey (sp?) is also quite near). We went with DD (then 2). We all loved it. She still talks about our outing on the steam train.

nailpolish · 21/02/2006 10:01

weve been on the steam train oldiemum talked about. its fab!

lapsedrunner · 21/02/2006 10:02

Sorry www.gwynfrynfarm.co.uk, I don't remember seeing too many horses. Might have been a couple in a field but not close up.

Nixz · 21/02/2006 13:34

hiya nixz - i gather that is in Scotland?

biglips · 21/02/2006 13:40

and what a bargain!.. i wanna go there too as never been to Scotland

nailpolish · 21/02/2006 13:40

nixz - i go near there for my holidays every year

you must take the road to Tighnabruich for the day - there are lots of gorgeous places for picnic, and if you are feeling adventurous you can board the Waverely - a fab steamboat that goes up and down the water. or take the ferry to Bute
