We're off to North Norfolk (a bit up the coast from Yarmouth) for a week's holiday. Where shall we go? DH is excited to the point of hysteria about Dinosaur World, which I don't even think is that close, but that's all we've got planned.

All suggestions of places to visit or to eat at that are cheap and todddler friendly would be very welcome...

Here

PuppyMonkey · 15/05/2012 21:42

Bewilderwood. Bewilderwood, Bewilderwood, Bewilderwood.

That's all you need. Ever.

BrianButterfield · 15/05/2012 21:51

We went to Wroxham Barns - there's a nice little children's farm thing there.

BrianButterfield · 15/05/2012 21:53

Also there's a place called Castle Carvery in Caister which was lovely - there's a soft play area there and they do free meals for kids in highchairs.

SpringHeeledJack · 15/05/2012 21:54

what Puppy said

it's a toss up as to who likes Bewilderwood more-us or dcs Grin

LulaPalooza · 15/05/2012 21:57

Without kids I would say go to Burnham Market, but not sure how kid friendly it is. There used to be a fab hat shop there that's Alice in Wonderland-esque. Bigger on the inside than the outside. There's also the Hoste Arms.

The coastline is beautiful. Wells Next the Sea is lovely, but be careful if it's swimming weather. The tides are scarily strong.

Cromer to catch or simply eat crabs

Bewilderwood sounds brilliant! Are you allowed to go there if you're a grown up without kids?!

cairnterrier · 15/05/2012 22:04

Dinosaur world, Seaworld in Yarmouth, Banham zoo, lots of NT properties if you're members, lots of railways but they're a bit more mid-Norfolk, DS aged 2.5 really likes Norwich castle museum, lots of lovely beaches about.

usualsuspect · 15/05/2012 22:07

funky mackerel cafe in Sheringham is worth a visit

Ponders · 15/05/2012 22:13

Banham Zoo is excellent.

& there's a nice museum in Cromer (? I think it was Cromer) with dressing-up outfits.

\link{http://events.museums.norfolk.gov.uk/public_events.aspx?page=1&event_venue_id=9\this is Cromer Museum but I don't remember it looking like this}

\link{http://www.norfolk-lavender.co.uk/\Norfolk Lavender}

& lots of lovely beaches. & the Broads. Only been once but I really liked Norfolk Smile

Ponders · 15/05/2012 22:17

we stayed at \link{http://www.tournorfolk.co.uk/ludham.html#start\Ludham Staithe} & mostly used \link{http://www.scenicnorfolk.co.uk/locations/seapalling00003.jpg\Sea Palling} beach (it was Blue Flag last year, & quite a few others are too)

MegBusset · 15/05/2012 22:21

Beaches: Sea Palling, Winterton, Cromer, Wells
Broads: Barton and Ranworth have child-friendly boardwalks
Pleasurewood Hills is a pretty good theme park for littlies, use Clubcard vouchers
Dinosaur Adventure is fab
Steam trains between Wroxham-Aylsham or Holt-Sheringham
Pettitts is fine for little ones, Wroxham Barns is good but won't fill a whole day
Norwich castle is fab, the cathedral is good for a wander too and has a nice cafe

SpringHeeledJack · 15/05/2012 22:22

there are some bonkers museums in Norfolk also

grab a handful of leaflets wherever you go

last time we went, me and dp spent an evening in our well appointed luxury caravan literally crying at some of em

MegBusset · 15/05/2012 22:22

Seaworld in Yarmouth is rubbish and hugely overpriced! Would avoid all of Yarmouth tbh, Cromer much nicer if you want pier and candyfloss etc

MegBusset · 15/05/2012 22:24

Thrigby Hall/Gardens and Thursford Steam Museum both supposed to be good though haven't been to either yet.

usualsuspect · 15/05/2012 22:25

Yarmouth is ok in a bucket and spade type way, plenty for children to do there.

Ginismyfriend · 15/05/2012 22:28

This is brilliant! Thank you (and keep it coming...)Smile

Brancaster is the best beach - miles and miles of sand when the tide is out and dunes and rocks for the children to climb on. It's completely unsheltered from the wind though - you'll need a wind-break!

Wells-next-the-Sea is also nice - it's more sheltered than Brancaster and there's a long line of beautiful beach huts (which sell for ££££££!). Again, miles and miles of sand when the tide is out.

Swimming pool in Sheringham is good (wave machine is good fun).

Loads of fab pubs for food - we particularly like the George in Cley, the Hero in Burnham Overy Staithe and the Jolly Sailors in Brancaster Staithe (I think - some of the villages along the coast road tend to blur into one!).

Holkham Hall is lovely and the beach is also amazing, but it's quite trek through the pine trees to get to it. Holkham have some good outdoor events during the summer - we went to see Alice through the looking glass one year, and they had great stuff on over Easter. It's worth checking out to see what's on.

Last time we also went to Houghton Hall, which was good - beautiful gardens and we've also been to Sandringham, where the guides give you all sorts of inside info about the Royals Grin.

Burnham Overy Staithe is lovely - there's a great harbour for crabbing.

Blakeney is also lovely - good crabbing and a few nice shops to wander round.

Burnham Market is a bit Fulham-on-Sea, but there's some nice shops to poke around in - a lovely deli, really good butchers and bakers. There's also a women's clothes shop called Lime Green which is a bit £££, but upstairs they have second hand children's clothes, which are all Joules and Boden! Got some great bargains when we were there last.

We were up at Easter and go up again for the Jubilee weekend - can't wait (just hope the sun shines for us this time!).

Ponders · 15/05/2012 22:56

you must go to \link{http://www.tournorfolk.co.uk/wroxham.html\Wroxham}. All the shops are called Roys Grin

(I am exaggerating of course. But a lot of them are!)

It's a good place to hire a boat. Try not to crash when parking it on your return like I did in front of a bar full of people

5madthings · 15/05/2012 23:05

are you on fb? only we havea group on there which is all activties and places to go in norfolk! lots of childfriendly recomendations and reviews etc.

BrigitBigKnickers · 15/05/2012 23:07

Bewilderwood is fab.

Thursford has a fairground ride/ steam things/ whirlitzers/ museum.

BrianButterfield · 15/05/2012 23:12

We went through the townful of Roy's! Including a Roy's McDonald's Grin

tettoni · 15/05/2012 23:13

Dinosaur Adventure is absolutely brilliant! There's an indoor soft play bit if it rains too.

Has anyone mentioned the little narrow gauge railways? They run all over, have a google to see which is nearest to you.

nicnak01 · 15/05/2012 23:17

Pettitts Animal Adventure is a fun day out for the under sevens it has lots of play areas a few kiddie rides and then animal dotted about its a good day out.www.pettittsadventurepark.co.uk/ Bewilderwood is Brill but expensive. Frinton Lake is nice, Yarmouth of course and I haven't been there in years but Pleasurewood Hills is around there.

Ponders · 15/05/2012 23:22

\link{http://www.norwich-market.co.uk/\nice market at Norwich} - every day too! (except Sunday)
