Assume you want/ need school holidays so it would be worth checking out lastminute-cottages website or awaywiththekids which we have used in the past. there are a few places with spaces for this bank holiday weekend - just been browsing sites. have just looked at Wringworthy holiday cottages where we go in the summer and they have a cottage free for this coming bank holiday weekend. they dont have a hot tub though but they do have a swimming pool. good luck

There.s a wonderful house near Annan which does self catering in the stables. It was built by the marquee of queensbury of the rules iyswim. They have a small swimming pool and gym and games room, they will arrange fly fishing lessons for you, the beaches are quite close, there's a DIY paint your own pottery not far, you can quad bike in the local forest. But I can't remember the name.

Centerparcs?

PGL for families? I think the accom is going to be pretty basic but friends of ours took their two sons and they had a fab time, doing all the activities etc but the parents could then go and have a nice dinner by themselves in teh evenings.

Thanks everyone. Yes I am looking for some time in the main summer hols. Afraid this w/end is def out as my dh is in Kings hosp in London, went up today for surgery tomorrow to remove a lung tumour:( Then in July he has to see another specialist as he has two abdominal hernias caused by excessive surgery, they will have to be repaired. So we are hoping to get away end of July time. CP we love but way out of our budget in Summer, sadly!

Have a look at Arran, an island in the Forth of Clyde. Some lovely self catering cottages and loads of activities for teens.

spendthrift · 03/05/2012 11:53

Arran is wonderful.

Don't know where you are but the deal broadstairs area has lots to do too. And if they like riding or watersports the isle of wight is good.

Or, here,s an off beat suggestion, find a premier inn at 29 quid a night for a room, if you book ahead, in a city with lots to do, eg oxford, take them putting, trip on the river, places to visit outside.

Or travelodge has just put up more places in London, not right near the centre but within a bus ride. Pm me if you want.more details. Theres a huge amount you can do for free in London.

Years ago my teenage son went on holiday with another family to Warmwell Holiday Park in Dorset. I'm sure he mentioned something about being able to fish there.

Hi and thank you for your replies, guess what? I live in Deal!! Born here, love it and count myself very lucky! Scotland would be too far to go, we have just had to down size on our car and they are already complaining about being squashed together in the back, we have just bought a Toyota Avensis estate and sadly parted with our Galaxy we have had for 14 years! Durham takes us about 7 hours, Cornwall the same, I think thats enough. Well my dh was sent home today as they abandoned the surgery, the tumour has increased slightly in size, they will review him again in three weeks. This is why its so difficult for us to pre book......................fun and games!!

triplets · 05/05/2012 00:13

Don`t worry spendthrift, we get that quite often. I was 46 when they were born, my dh was 56, we had them after 3 attempts at ivf following the sudden death of our only child Matthew:( He was 14, collapsed and died in my garden, no medical explanation.....I thought my life was over. xx

triplets · 05/05/2012 00:14

Selks · 05/05/2012 00:16

Cornwall or Wales.. Find somewhere that has surf lessons on the beach for the teens, and a nice beach cafe where you can applaud their efforts in comfort Grin

Selks · 05/05/2012 00:30

Sorry for your sad loss of Matthew. That's heartbreaking. Sad

Fluffy1234 · 05/05/2012 08:01

So sorry for your loss. Hope you find a nice holiday with a jacuzzi and some quality time with your DH and DT's.

triplets · 05/05/2012 11:50

Thank you Selks............I love seeing his name in print, rarely happens these days.
Still searching for a break!

Just talked to a friend who swears by parkdean holidays for things for all ages. They take three generations to the dorset ones.

We have good friends in deal, three sets, and cousins used to live outside dover.

V sorry about Matthew. Must be awful. I hope you have lovely memories to cherish.

triplets · 05/05/2012 22:28

Will look up Parkdean.........thank you:)

spendthrift · 05/05/2012 23:06

Have just looked at some of the reviews. Our friends go to the dorset ones, which might be better, the reviews are dodgy.

Our lovely childminders used to go to a park in the new forest or else to the haven in Hastings. The only prob with the latter was that the site was on a steep slope.

Other friends go to west wittering, great beach, easy to get to eg Brighton for a teen day on the pier, the lanes for girl shopping.
