Obviously I am rather excited Grin

Two dcs - 7 and nearly 5.

Thinking of going for two weeks - either we'd drop everything and go at Easter or be naughty and add an extra week on to the summer half term or go in the summer holidays, though dh is keen on it being asap.

I'd obviously like us to do something we could never afford normally - so long haul. Maybe a safari? I know you'll all hate me for being so lucky but any suggestions gratefully received Grin.

OOoh - I would definitely go for Namibia and Botswana. Depends what your 5 year old is like, but Safaris should be fine at 5/6 years old. Any younger, it would be too boring for them. We are planning to take our just-7 year old in the next few months. Was the best holiday I have ever had. You can do boat trips, sand dune surfing, visit gold and diamond mines, see the most amazing animals, visit the desert, live in a luxury tent on the Okavango, eat the most fantastic food, visit caves and fabulous villages, stay in expensive camps with swimming pools and 4 x 4 buses, sleep in a hide and watch the animals come to the water hole at night

Malaysia is nice, beaches can be fabulous, and you could also do Singapore before that. I had my 5th birthday on an island off Singapore, visited Malacca and East Coast of Malaysia and still remember it nearly 40 years on.

If your costs are covered, I would seriously consider a tour of China - with a dedicated guide. The kids would really find it fascinating, and so would you. And if you can do it in luxury, you will likely be able to see the most amazing things...

The planning is going to be nearly as much fun as the holiday Grin.

Haven't read the thread, so sorry if it's already been suggested, but you MUST go to Patagonia and the Galapagos, if you can do one of those tours that cover both.

Would be seriously interesting and memorable. And fantastic stuff for the kids to learn.
