Obviously I am rather excited Grin

Two dcs - 7 and nearly 5.

Thinking of going for two weeks - either we'd drop everything and go at Easter or be naughty and add an extra week on to the summer half term or go in the summer holidays, though dh is keen on it being asap.

I'd obviously like us to do something we could never afford normally - so long haul. Maybe a safari? I know you'll all hate me for being so lucky but any suggestions gratefully received Grin.

Envy Envy Envy

and

FLORIDA DISNEY!

Do Borneo, and see the orangutans.

Have been to Brunei, you have to be respectful and keep yourselves covered quite a bit (which is difficult in the heat) in accordance with their religion. Also, be careful you don't go during Ramadan, which will limit you further. We were lucky, Ramadan had just finished when we visited and everyone was happy, happy, happy Smile

New Zealand is amazing, or Australia.
Disney, no.

PestoSansVesto · 12/03/2012 16:50

Australia is a fab idea too, get them to to draw up an itinerary which enables you to travel all over, flights included. Then you could start at Perth (travel up to Monkey Mia, down to Freemantle, Margaret River, over to Rottnest Island and see the quokkas), fly to Ayers Rock, then up to Cairns (Cape Tribulation, Barrier Reef etc), down to Sydney, then Melbourne and then home via somewhere like Singapore or Hong Kong Grin

The Congo! Gorillias in the Mist, please do it for me.

joanofarchitrave · 12/03/2012 20:43

For me it would be a stopover in San Francisco, and then to New Zealand. And I would do at least three weeks. Forget school, your eldest is 7, anyway you can afford to go in the school holidays!

TwoIfBySea · 12/03/2012 20:45

Hawaii, if money was no option I'd love to go there!

BerryLellow · 12/03/2012 21:00

I'd take my dcs to Australia in a heartbeat

ChewingGum · 12/03/2012 21:09

sorry, but another old cynic here.

Why on earth would you have to keep quiet about a competition win?
The whole idea of a comptitition is publicity.

No legitimate competition would then say to the winner, now don't be telling anyone about first prize.

Sorry but all a bit odd. Are you sure, you are not being roped into buying something?

I would go to a very expensive all inclusive Caribbean hotel that does not just a kids club but a nanny.

If I wasn't having 2 weeks at the Grand Floridian with deluxe DDP obviously.

Or maybe 2 weeks in the Hamptons/New York.

Iamweasel · 12/03/2012 21:32

Costa rica

Hulababy · 12/03/2012 21:37

It may be a work related competition - that would often mean not being able to declare information at this point.

Can it be with any travel company?

If so, the adventure company have some great trips:

Ambersivola · 12/03/2012 21:41

Gimme, gimme, gimme - tour of the Caribbean Islands with an extension to Disney World for the kids.

Littlefish · 12/03/2012 21:42

Antigua, Grenada or St Lucia.

timetosmile · 12/03/2012 21:46

if you think the DCs are a little young for a safari, leave then with Grandma and take a few MNers instead...

frenchfancy · 13/03/2012 06:41

We just got from Mexico and we had the best holiday ever. I'd go back like a shot. The 5 yr old loved it.

One peice of advice - whereever you go make sure you fly direct. The airport stopovers are definately the worst part of the trip.

gettingalifenow · 13/03/2012 06:45

OP it has to be a caribbean cruise! Lots on board for the kids to do plus loads of new experiences for you and DH!

Iatemyskinnyperson · 13/03/2012 06:50

South Africa! Same time zone, great for kids and great food. If you stay on the garden route, no malaria!

Go now tho, seasons are flipped, so our summer is their winter.. Short days

EssieW · 13/03/2012 06:56

No question. New Zealand. Lots for kids.

bruffin · 13/03/2012 07:12

Our honeymoon was 2 weeks in Maldives followed by a week touring Sri Lanka. It was amazing would love to go back

areyoutheregoditsmemargaret · 13/03/2012 09:32

Cynics, you're just going to have to believe me - I can't give details. Yet. Possibly later. I don't want to jeopardise this Grin

Thinking overnight, it's definitely now down to a few days safari in SA followed by a beach holiday in (my pref) Madagascar. Or the orangutans. Having spent hours browsing travel websites I've now also had a load more ideas - Galapagos, Arctic cruise, Mongolia .... but with dcs this age not so realistic. Time wise we are limited to about a fortnight so I also think places like NZ are off limits as if/when I ever go (we've friends there, so would love to) I'd like it to be a really long stay. Thanks so much everyone for all the ideas.
