TENERIFE

Lisa2 · 17/01/2012 23:02

Well, i am heading back to Tenerife, the reef, the red rock, whatever else people call the island after being 'home' in the uk for 10 days.

I have lived on the island for almost 4 years and have a small childcare buisness, so i have seen many of the hotels and apartments there so if you are thinking to visit this wonderful island with year round sun and good temperatures and need hotel recommendations or advice or what there is to do around the island them do not hesitate to ask.

Another thing that Tenerife has that many people do not know about is there are 3 iceland supermarkets so you can get all of your 'home from home' goods including babycare.

Happy holidays to you all.

Lisa

Oooooh I am thinking of booking an oct holiday there with some friends. We will have 3 children with us aged 5 to 11 so looking for all inclusive with plenty for the children to do. We're looking to relax mainly. Any suggestions appreciated, I haven't been abroad for years and the children never!

Lisa2 · 17/01/2012 23:56

Hi MeDented.
There are many hotels now offering all inclusive packages.
It really depends on budget but you have many hotels to choose from on whatever budgets you have.

Let me give you a few ideas-

3-4* hotels
-Jacaranda (Costa Adeje)
-Noelia dream hotel (Las Americas)

  • Cristian sur (los cristianos)
-Iberostar Torviscas playa (Torviscas)
  • Lullaby costa (Torviscas/costa Adeje)

5* hotels
-Abama resort and spa (not all inc but one of the most popular on the island)

  • Iberostar Anthelia (my persional favourite for families, kids club's great)
  • Sheriton La Caleta
-Sensatori (aprox 45 min transfer from TFS airport) -Bahia princess -Guyarmina princess

Ok, there are a few to look up for the time being, obviously there are many others but i cant list them all on here haha.

By all means get back to me if you would like to pick my brains on any hotels you like the look of and would like more info.

Hope that helps
Lisa.

Thanks Lisa, I'll go and have a nosey.

Novstar · 18/01/2012 12:53

Do you happen to know any self catering 2-bed apartments or 2-bed villas, either in a complex or in a small town, near the beach and with a heated pool? Or any agencies that deal with such properties? I've found lovely ones in Lanzarote but for some reason, not many options in Tenerife. Either they are not self-catering (most hotels), super expensive (Bahia Duque) or they are too isolated with no shops/restaurants/beaches for miles.

Lisa2 · 18/01/2012 14:38

Hi Novstar.
I know of many seff catering apartments/hotels in Tenerife.

Try googaling these ...

-Parque santiago 3 (Las Americas, nice part, not the party end)

  • Compastella beach- I have a friend who owns a 2 bed on this lovely holiday complex so i will get in touch with her to find out prices. When are you thinking to come?

-Garden city (San euguinio)- again, i have another friend who owns an apartment here.

-Playa Olid (Costa Adeje)

-The palms (Amarilla golf) around a 15 minute drive to the busy resorts of Las Americas, Los Cristianos and Adeje

-Aquamar (Los Cristianos)

-Laguna park 1 and 2

-Palm beach (Torviscas)

-Chayofa country club (Chayofa)

-Hollywood mirage (Up from Las Americas)

  • Beverley hills club (up from Las Americas)

There are a few to have a look at. I could run loads more off but, how long have you got haha.

All the mentioned above are either very close to or on the beach but i am not sure if they all have heated swimming pools!!

A couple of online villa/apartment holiday rental agencies that i know are

-Lupain holiday rentals and
-Home away

Any further questions, dont hesitate to get back to me.

Lisa.

We stay in el medano which is beautiful if you dont want clubs and bars and people giving you flyers etc.
Its a sleepy surfing town with lovely little streets, some shops and some small intimate tapas bars.
We stayed last year and are going again in 2 weeks.
The hotel is clled Arenas del Mar and is all inclusive

Novstar · 18/01/2012 14:59

Thanks, I will have a look at those. We're going next Christmas (I have learnt the hard way to be superorganised about booking holidays in the Canaries).

Novstar · 18/01/2012 15:00

El Medano sounds great but don't you get airplane noise? I am keen to avoid them as I live near an airport here!

molschambers · 18/01/2012 15:03

Oooh marking this. Tenerife my number 1 choice for next holidays. Must do something about it....

D0oinMeCleanin · 18/01/2012 15:07

Beverly Hills and Hollywood Mirage are mainly timeshares but can be booked occasionally via travel sites. They do have an onsite 'timeshare' office but they're not really pushy with it. We stayed at the Mirage earlier this year and it's beautiful but quite a distance away from the beach/center. There are nice bars/restaurants within walking distance.

Lisa2 · 18/01/2012 15:37

You get more aeroplane noise around the golf del sur areas so El Medano will be fine as you are not on the flight path here.
El medano is very beautiful but windy .. good for the wind surfers.

There is also a nudest beach too, not that i have been myself haha.

Tbh i didnt notice it, you see a few going over the pool but its not very often (in the winter months) and none at all in the evening/night.
Its the most restful holiday ive ever had, great spa too Smile even managed to get dh in there and he works on a construction site so deffo not a spa type of bloke!

mosschops30 · 18/01/2012 15:40

Oh yes lisa2 is right it is very windy, but its a warm wind and the hotel pool has glass up all around to break some of that, whilst still allowing you to see the beach and sea

duckdodgers · 18/01/2012 23:33

I stayed in self catering apartments in Los Cristianos about 7 years ago, think they were called Atlantida, wonder if they are still there? They had a washing machine which was handy.

Justtrying · 19/01/2012 06:14

We are holidaying at the guyarmina princess, it will be our first time abroad with Dd who will be 9 months. Starting to think about how much to pack and what to buy once we arrive. Are huggies nappies widely available, what about swim nappies.
Is the pool likely to be warm enough to enjoy.
Not too worried about food, Dd isn't fussy so I'll pack some ellas kitchen pouches, but she'll eat what we do, undecided whether to bring a box of formula or cartons. I doubt I'll get aptimal hungry baby.

mosschops30 · 19/01/2012 09:25

I take everything as i find nappies and stuff expensive abroad.
Buy the microwave steriliser bags, these are a god send you can do everything in them bottles, dummies etc.

Lisa2 · 19/01/2012 09:49

Hi there.
Guyarmina princess is a lovely hotel more or less on the beach so you will be happy there i am sure.
There is a large supermarket near you called hyper dino and they sell napies etc.
I know that iceland sell huggies and little swimmers but the nearest one to you would be around a 10 minute drive in Las Americas.

You can also buy aptimil in pharmacies and most stock it. However, when i have been buying formula for families i have noticed that you can only get aptimil 1 and 2. I asked the pharmasist about this and the number 2 counts as hungry baby form there and number 3!!

Hope this helps and let me know how you get on.

Lisa.

Hi !
We re thinking of coming to Tenerife ( for the first time ) for february half term - do you think the weather will be ok ? - I know there are no guarantees ! Any suggestions for good hotels / whatever for teenage girls ?
Thanks.

Lisa2 · 21/01/2012 17:37

Hi Waily.
Well feb can be a little rainy but saying that, the year before last was lovely and last year more cloudy and not great. So it really is a hard one to answer.

At the monent it is lovely with sunny days and temps of around 22c. Although it is considerably cooler in the evenings.

As for hotels, have a look at the lists that i made above as all are in good locations with lots to do around and close to the beach etc.

If there is a hotel that you like the look of and you would like to find out more, please dont hesitate to ask.

Hi Lisa,

We have a romantic idea about staying on the northern side of the island quite close to the AMAZING zoo so we can visit a few times while there. However, I can't seem to find any good/not too expensive accomodation over there in a package deal. Any ideas of where to stay/who to go with for reasonable accomodation for 2 adults & 1 child? Those we have seen are villas aimed at much larger families than us!

JoJoMummy321 · 21/01/2012 21:21

Hi there! We are about to book a week in Feb 10th to 17th for me DH and DD who is 9. We are a little worried about weather but am I right in thinking if its cloudy it would still be 20 degrees or so?

Also of the hotels you mention, there are two with princess in the title that we are considering and there is very little difference in price. I think Bahia is a little more expensive but only just. Which do you think had the edge?

Also is Siam water park good?

Thanks for taking the time to read!!

dreamingofsun · 22/01/2012 11:51

jojo - we did lanzarote last year at that time and the weather was lovely. bit windy, but mostly sunny with some cloud. was like warm summer weather in UK - ie high 20's. spent the time lazy around in the pool - which as people recommended was heated. during the evening it was quite cool though - fleece and jeans weather. at night we could have done with a few more blankets in our beds.

SecretSquirrels · 22/01/2012 14:43

I have been to the Canaries many times with and without children.
I think people often have unrealistic expectations of the weather in winter.
It can be lovely and warm and sunny but the pools will be freezing (even if they are allegedly heated) and the sea is the Atlantic and so quite brrrrr even in summer. You also need warm clothes for evenings.
That doesn't mean it isn't wonderful to have some winter sunshine but if you have children who are used to spending all their time in the water on holiday they may be disappointed.
Siam park is truly awesome in my 16 year old's words.
But not in February.
I have shivered there in August.

dreamingofsun · 22/01/2012 17:30

we were obviously very lucky as our pool was boiling. everyone said to get a heated one. we've only done it once...but now hooked. if we had to get rid of a a holiday we would probably cut corners on the summer one now. fingers crossed we weren't just very lucky last winter.

JoJoMummy321 · 22/01/2012 17:46

Thanks for your replies! It sounds like a heated pool would be a must! I checked and the hotels we fancy do have a heated pool. I just know DD will want to go to the water park though so hopefully the pools there are heated. I just want some Sunshine! We can't go away at easter or summer due to DH New job and moving house so next chance would be October and I can't wait that long!!
