in new year we are going away for the night. dh wants to stay in london so we don't eat into our time travelling....i'm not so sure but willing to be persuaded....any fab suggestions for places to stay? any savvy mners know of good ways of getting a discount due to booking late (apart from obvious lastminute..., and does anyone have experience good or bad with that?)

any help gratefully received....needs to be quiet and v comfortable room (so we sleep) and feel like a treat.

tia

The Dorchester are doing a special January rate of £190 per room per night on their website (that rate quoted is for a superior double room).

Compared to their usual rates that is pretty reasonable.

thank you....dorchester sounds interesting...anywhere a bit quirkier? any other ideas for making the most of nearly 24 hours away from sprog?

These are all lovely hotels, www.firmdale.com.

HandbagAddiction · 22/12/2005 13:43

St Martins Lane hotel is definitely quirky and very nice - not sure on price though. you might also want to look at No 1 the Aldwych too.

OK, Soph, you need laterooms My sister stayed at Malmaison in Clerkenwell last week and said it was fab, or what about The Zetter or K West although I haven't stayed at either.

WideWebWitch · 28/12/2005 20:03

Or Threadneedles looks nice too although ditto, haven't stayed.

puffoeufnog · 28/12/2005 20:16

If you really want to push the boat out, stay here . I have had lunch, but not stayed overnight yet. It really is a fabulous place and the food amazing.

The rooms are all different and themed - I want to stay in the suite with two baths and cherubs on the walls .

puffoeufnog · 28/12/2005 20:17

Botticelli is the one that has me drooling

Heathcliffscathy · 28/12/2005 20:22

oh puff, if only....one day we'll go there, but budget doesn't allow at the moment

www, thanks for suggestions...but if we're going to be in london we want either central or south south/west...

anyone else?

Holiday Inn in Kings Cross is civilised enough but uninspiring.

bossykate · 28/12/2005 20:31

hi there

i suspect this will be completely infra dig but have been dying to suggest this one to anyone who has wanted a budget stay in london.

it's Premier Travel Inn Borough .

ok, ok, i know it's a travel inn - and i've never stayed there myself - but i think the location is to die for. right next to borough market, the tate, globe theatre, tons of cool places to eat and drink, across the river from st paul's and the city...

it will not be a place to hang out and spa... but it will be somewhere very close to excellent eating and drinking, cultural activities and shopping, romantic walks along the south bank by night (the view is amazing)...

probably not exactly what you're looking for but maybe useful to someone else looking for a budget place to stay in london...

must emphasise - no experience - just think the location is great.

lapsedrunner · 28/12/2005 20:32

I used to live near Borough so agree this is a great idea.

puffoeufnog · 28/12/2005 21:04

this site has a good selection of London hotels on it. I've bookmarked it because a mate has offered to have my boys for a weekend at Easter. If we can't run to 2 nights at Le Manoir, I'll probably choose from here.

WideWebWitch · 28/12/2005 21:09

Sophables, surely KWest isn't THAT far, it's only West Ken or somewhere! OK, I will have a think. And Clerkenwell's hardly inaccessible either

WideWebWitch · 28/12/2005 21:10

You can search on Laterooms by tube station or London postcode too.

WideWebWitch · 28/12/2005 21:11

I stayed in a Travel Inn recently and would wholeheartedly NOT recommend it, it was freezing and shite. But I bet London ones are better than country ones!

puff · 28/12/2005 21:14

I might give that travel inn a go - have wanted to go to borough market for ages but can't be arsed to make the trek. Now a night away, with a meal out beforehand sounds good!

bossykate · 28/12/2005 23:01

www, you're probably right, but like i said the location is really good.

what about the grove or whatley manor? although i think neither of those meet your central/sw london criteria.

WideWebWitch · 28/12/2005 23:03

Oh bk, didn't mean to offend you, just I stayed in one 2 weeks ago and it was shockingly bad but it was near work, bet London ones have to be better, they have more competition! And location is worth a lot in London, I know

WideWebWitch · 28/12/2005 23:04

I've been drooling over THe Grove website bk, have you been? It's v expensive but looks lovely!
