Skribble, the most central of all those hotels is either the Clarion or the Dergvale. As I live here I don't actually ever stay in the hotels so can't really advise on which is best. The only worry I would have about the Dergvale is that the street its on could get a bit dodgy at night, I would probably go with the Clarion. All of the others would require getting a taxi back late at night; the Clarion's within stumbling distance of Temple Bar! As to transport from the city centre, you can only go by bus or taxi at the moment. There's an express bus that goes from the airport to the city centre but as with all things in Ireland 'Express' might still not be very fast! Have a lovely stay!

Thanks I quite fancied the Clarion as it has a pool and I can see us lounging about in the steam room after a night out .

skribble the aircoach is what u get into the city
blue buses single story ones, parked at arrivals entrance and they stop strategically for hotels on route. its pretty quick to.

DelGirl · 20/11/2005 10:02

I stayed in a Jury's hotel in Dublin near the main nightlife area. Sorry, can't remember the name, may have been Christchurch?? I wouldn't recommend it tbh.

DelGirl · 20/11/2005 10:04

Oh and we got a taxi from the airport. Again, can't remember how much but i'm sure it wasn't excessive or i'd remember.

chipmonkey · 20/11/2005 13:46

Delgirl, I think you're thinking of Jury's Inn, which is at Christchurch. It's a budget hotel, you pay by the room, not per person

chipmonkey · 20/11/2005 13:47

Delgirl, usually Dublin taxi's are expensive, definitely compared with Europe, not sure how they compare with the UK, though.

LadySherlockofLGJ · 20/11/2005 14:23

Chipmonkey

Regardless of whether or not it is a budget hotel, they can dress it up all they like, Jurys Christchurch, is still next to High Street/Thomas Street one way and Patrick Street on the other side.

DelGirl · 20/11/2005 14:33

are you 2 slating my choice of hotel . I did say it wasn't recommended. I took a couple of friends there for a weekend as a thank you a few years back. We didn't stay in the hotel that much thankfully as we were out enjoying ourselves in Temple Bar (is that what you call it?)

LadySherlockofLGJ · 20/11/2005 14:35

In a word..

........

.......

..........................................................................................................................Yes

DelGirl · 20/11/2005 14:36

well don't you think that's a bit rude lgj? How was I to know, I wasn't on MN then.

LadySherlockofLGJ · 20/11/2005 14:37

Well that was your first mistake.

DelGirl · 20/11/2005 14:38

hmmmm

LadySherlockofLGJ · 20/11/2005 14:45

But you had a good time apart from that I hope.

DelGirl · 20/11/2005 15:43

What I remember of it, yes.

LadySherlockofLGJ · 20/11/2005 15:44

Which means you had an excellent time.

northerner · 20/11/2005 15:45

lilybird · 20/11/2005 19:34

lilybird · 20/11/2005 19:35

sorry, meant to start new thread, totally cocked up sorry!!!!!!!!!

Pam70 · 20/11/2005 21:01

I've stayed at the Clarion - it's alright - very much aimed at the business traveller during weekdays because it's in the International Financial Services Centre. I found it a bit quiet during the evenings TBH.

Whereabouts is the Days apartments? I might have stayed in them before they were called Days and IIRC, they're the other side of Stephen's Green, around Leeson Street and it's a better location for shopping and getting to Temple Bar.

Skribble · 20/11/2005 21:06

Ladies goodness, I go out for the day and come back to this !!!!!

I am not bothered if it is budget or not, but I do draw the line at a 16 bad mixed dorm. Mind you I'm sure it would be fun. No second thoughts I am sure we would be stuck with 14 assorted smelly french and german backpackers that are to stingy to fork out the 50p for a hot shower.

We plan to be out enjoying the hospitality until the small hours, leisurly late breakfast and a bit of shopping.

my sis is off to dublin in 2 weeks to spend her 40th birthday in the city where she was born

She's staying at the Gresham which is apparently right next door to the hosp where she was born.

When I went I stayed at the Burlington

Skribble · 20/11/2005 21:11

I think there are a few locations for the apartments but round about the same area, just south of stephens green. The apartments appeal because if my friend starts snoring i can go through to the settee instead of killing her. Not sure if the one bedroom apartments have a double bed though (we are not that close), or perhaps a bed settee.

Where are the main shopping areas? I have been aiming to be near Temple bar, but shopping will be a priority too. Not interested in the high street stuff, more the markets and indiviual shops.
