geordieminx · 25/05/2011 10:09

Sorry just realized thats Jesmond.

malmaison restaurant on quayside?

Restaurant in Baltic?

campergirls · 25/05/2011 10:58

I would really recommend Cafe Buee on the Quayside: small, friendly independent restaurant with fantastic food (French style made with lots of local ingredients), lovely staff, chilled atmosphere. Very nice for a special night out.

mosschops30 · 25/05/2011 11:26

We stayed in the malmaison last time. I thought it was overpriced and overated.
Where is cafe buee on the quayside?

Also does anyone know if the brandling arms in gosforth is still really good for sunday lunches?

mosschops30 · 25/05/2011 20:06

Have seen where cafe buee is. Weve been there before when it was a greasy spoon, my only problem might be how busy that area is on a saturday night, it wouldnt be a romantic dinner looking out on the river lol

The Baltic is still lovely.
Don't know Brandling Arms. I have heard good things about Cafe Buee but still not been there. Did it used to be called something else?

I was SHOCKED last time I was out on the streets of Newcastle on a Sat night. We ended up in Pizza Express. (boring)

WowOoo · 25/05/2011 20:11

BAltic was very romantic. Prob overpriced, but as far as I remember (bit squiffy) food was lush. Great views, good service, nice cutlery.

geordieminx · 25/05/2011 20:12

What about Indian on other side of high level bridge? Blue ruppee perhaps?

mosschops30 · 25/05/2011 20:35

Brandling arms used to be fab, huge sunday lunches Smile its on gosforth high street.
Have never been over to the baltic, is it an easy walk from the quayside?
Cafe buee used to be a fab place o get breakfast, then it changed hands and was a shithole, looks like its changed again but its in a poor position for nice dinners, i can just imagine dh slobbering over half dressed bunny girls wiggling their tails past the window lol

geordieminx · 25/05/2011 20:37

Baltic is right a across millennium bridge. 2 minutes from Malmaison.

mosschops30 · 25/05/2011 20:39

Is the baltic resturant called Six?

CuppaNBicciePlease · 25/05/2011 20:43

Azzurri on the quayside is really good, although does get extremely busy at weekends so best to book.

DamselInDisguise · 25/05/2011 20:44

The brandling arms is somewhat variable for sunday lunches. Sometimes it's great and sometimes it's not great. And sometimes it takes a ludicrous amount of time to get your food. The last time we went it was pretty dire, so we haven't been back.

geordieminx · 25/05/2011 20:45

Yes, tis Six

mosschops30 · 25/05/2011 20:47

Is azzurri indian?
Have had a look at the six menu and it looks amazing, they do a very reasonable early menu, which we'd probably go for.
Gutted about the brandling, might still go though just for old times sake

DamselInDisguise · 25/05/2011 20:48

Maybe you'll be lucky and it'll be good. As I said, it's variable rather than consistently bad.

PotteringAlong · 25/05/2011 20:52

Rasa, just behind the tyne bridge is a fab authentic indian

Hana Hana, just up opposite the discovery museum is excellent

If you want lunch you can't beat the soup and a sandwich in the Baccus (go past the theatre royal, 2 streets down towards quayside on the left, same street with Poppolos at the top!)

KenDoddsDadsDog · 25/05/2011 20:53

If you like curry then try Vujon on Queen Street.

mosschops30 · 25/05/2011 20:58

We are stsying on the corner of grey street where the lodge is on the corner so where is baccus from there?
Are rasa, hana hana and vujon all indian?

OP posts:
PotteringAlong · 25/05/2011 21:03

hana hana is japanese - great fun as each table has a hot plate on and they cook it in front of you.

From the hotel, walk up grey street towards the monument - turn left (same side as the theatre royal) 2 streets before you get to the theatre - Baccus at the top on the right

PotteringAlong · 25/05/2011 21:04

ps have fun :)

DamselInDisguise · 25/05/2011 21:09

Ooh teppenyaki. My kids love teppenyaki. Must take them if it's good. Could be a birthday treat for DS1.

Blackcoffeeandcigarettes · 25/05/2011 21:12

I love blackfriers! Fantastic food!

coastgirl · 25/05/2011 21:13

We had some gorgeous tapas at El Torero.
