I won't take my DC to India, but my sister traveled though India with her 3yo and disagrees.

Where else should I avoid?

Libya
Yemen
North Korea

ShowOfHands · 16/04/2011 18:09

Toys r Us is asking for trouble.

LynetteScavo · 16/04/2011 18:16

I can cope with Toys R Us. The toy dept in Harrods proved EXTREMELY dangerous, (and rather embarrassing.)

Nigeria.

Should you really avoid India? I suppose it depends on what you want to do. Venice is perfectly safe but would probably bore a 3 year old silly. kerala in India if you are sensible with food could be fun for a 3 year old.

iskra · 16/04/2011 21:15

We had a great time with DD in India.

GhostInTheBackOfYourHead · 16/04/2011 21:16

The house where a university professor (and a father) attempted to give my one year old Ds a rusty old concertina metal music stand to play with.

wigglesrock · 18/04/2011 09:58

Any of the Disneys.

Kiwinyc · 18/04/2011 21:35

anywhere with communist electrical wiring

MisSalLaneous · 19/04/2011 20:56

Defending India here too - had a fabulous time with then 2-yo ds there. I wouldn't rough it there though - safe transport is essential, good accommodation, etc. One of the only places we've ever hired guides and a car (with driver) for the majority of our trip.

I wouldn't go anywhere where war is about to break out, with high risk of abductions, or where I can't control his health (e.g. high altitudes with asthma). The rest of the usually perceived as dangerous places are often safer than home, as long as you research well and take the necessary precautions.

Strumpypumpy · 19/04/2011 21:00

Blimey Venice with all that water, not to mention pigeons.
Sri Lanka those pesky Tamils
Bristol
France

expatinscotland · 19/04/2011 21:02

I'd avoid some parts of Latin America.

Itsjustafleshwound · 19/04/2011 21:06

I don't think I would take my children to some parts of Africa because of the risk of disease (malaria, TB), ticks, snakes, heat .... I would wait until they were a lot older

Strumpypumpy · 19/04/2011 21:11

Actually I'd second that malarial comment. Myself and DC react terribly to mozzie bites generally and we're always bitten. So for that reason alone I assume we'd be highly susceptible to malaria. I have also picked up 3 ticks in N America and was tested for Lymes disease as a result!

JarethTheGoblinKing · 19/04/2011 21:22

Japan's fine!

Disneyland in Tokyo, however? Grin

I would avoid the obvious areas already mentioned and would add Belarus

India I would have no problem with at all, but I would avoid it (and most of Asia), purely because DS is a picky bugger and wouldn't eat any food while there. Hmm

I would avoid a lot of Africa though.

BugsnBites · 20/04/2011 00:46

Most of Africa is lovely and you're all missing out.

Would avoid Switzerland as v judgey-pants.

YourCallIsImportant · 20/04/2011 00:50

There's a sawmill near me. I wouldn't take my kids there.

Itsjustafleshwound · 20/04/2011 08:09

Not missing out - just being cautious with children ...

Celibin · 25/04/2011 05:29

I have lived abroad a lot and worked for similar to the FO. The advice has always been re travelling to less developed countries that when things go wrong there are not the facilities to back you up like in the UK.Most people have great time but you should bear this in mind esp with young children.

Celibin · 25/04/2011 06:03

There are also the other matters such as visas, innoculations, banking facilities etc

kreecherlivesupstairs · 25/04/2011 06:55

You are a real bundle of joy aren't you Celibin. First Thailand now everywhere else that isn't developed.
DD has travelled extensively in developing countries, apart from a couple of episodes of enteritis, she is fit and healthy and well informed.

Greythorne · 25/04/2011 07:27

Colombia
