what can you tell me about living in BIRMINGHAM

Dh has possibility of job in Walsall. We will go and nose around of course, but where in Birmingham is nice to live? Ideally we want to be close to a good school, and not too far away from things to do/shops/etc.

(Also, we support Villa Is this a big deal round there? If so, not in a City area please!)

I truly am going out( just waiting for dh) now but Sutton Coldfield is the place north of the city to live.

WWB lives there, Cod used to, Nutty does.

Lots of villa players live in the area FWIW

I live in Birmingham and cant see whats so great about it - although saying that we've never had any trouble here (touch wood)

house prices are high though

lunavix · 25/09/2005 20:15

What are house prices like?

For example, here a terrace 3 bed (small 3 bed) is about £170k - £180k, or 700 - 750a month rent.

huggy - would they be higher than berkshire?

Are the people friendly?

we just bought a 2 bedroomed house for 89.950 but we got it cheap cause they needed to get rid of it pretty quick.

when we were looking round for some where we found average prices to be around 130,000 for a three bedroomed house.

we were looking in, acocks green, yardley, sheldon, tyesely, stechford (south birmingham)

HuggyBear · 25/09/2005 20:19

we've lived in four houses in birmingham and not come across any nasty neighbours yet!

ive never lived in anyother area though so cant really give a good comparision

Moseley is the arty bit. I like most of south Birmingham as it's green and spcaious.

a mini waitrose? I need more facilities than that! I'll be content with an asda...

Whats the drive south - walsall like? How long?
And walsall to sutton coldfield?

In an ideal world we don't want dh travelling too far obviously.

hmm just looked on upmystreet and gcse results were averaging 40%. Hmm. Unless at a grammar school.

sutton schools are good i think. Agree Four Oaks is probably the nicest place in Sutton to live. Estate by Asda is where another Mner lives IIRC in fact my sister lives there too. Sutton to Walsall is pretty good. South Brum to Walsall is ok but lots of bottle necks and potential traffic jams. If I was working in Walsall I would definitely live in Sutton.

Lunarvix - find some houses in your price range and size and we'll assess the area for you from our vast Brum knowledge base

nutcracker · 25/09/2005 21:19

I personally wouldn't live in Walsall.

Best places are Walmley, Boldmere, Four Oaks, Mere Green and Minworth (all classed as Sutton Coldfield).

There are 2 good secondary schools in Walmley, and one good one close to Sutton centre plus a girls grammer school.

nutcracker · 25/09/2005 21:20

Agree Lichfield is lovely too.
