Starting up a new thread for anyone whose YP might be applying this autumn for entry next year!

@Jane077- my understanding on the my Cambridge personal statement is that you can only put things on it not already on your main ucas personal statement. I think it’s designed for if your Cambridge course is different than what you’re applying for elsewhere. Dd is NatSci for Cambridge but Biochem elsewhere and says she’s just going to put a few lines down but not much.

Camcat23 · 14/10/2026 14:55

When I applied 2 years ago, the extra MyCam PS was not necessary if you were not applying for a slightly different course at Cambridge to other unis.

Consequently, because I was applying for the same course everywhere, I did not attach a second personal statement...and still got in!

So i wouldn't worry about it for anyone whose kids are stressed about it, unless the Cambridge course you are applying to is vastly different or only offered at Cambs!

ofteninaspin · 14/10/2026 16:02

DS applied for significantly different courses across his uni choices so the extra PS at Cambridge was very helpful. He completed the supplementary PS for his insurance choice at Durham too and tailored his main PS towards a third course at St Andrew’s. It felt like a risky strategy to me at the time but he got a Cambridge offer so it worked out fine.

Justlurkingmostly · 14/10/2026 17:43

Older DD didn’t add a PS to the My Cambs form two years ago iirc as she was applying to the same courses for all 5 unis. She just had to send UMS from her AS levels and a few other details I think? It didn’t seem to be very onerous.

Good stuff - glad to hear it doesn't matter too much as I'm not sure DD is planning to add much, if anything.

First offer is in here - Liberal Arts at York AAA.

CreamBeforeJamOnScones · 14/10/2026 23:37

Warwick acknowledgement received here too. Might it really take until May for a decision???!!!

At least we'll know either way in Jan for Cambridge.

QueenMabby · 15/10/2026 12:01

York seems very speedy with offers. Congrats on your DD’s offer @summernameandthelivingiseasy DD’s was AAB but can be reduced to ABB if she completes a MOOC but no details on that yet.

justteanbiscuits · 15/10/2026 15:44

Son has received acknowledgement for all of his. But nothing more than that. He's currently 30 mins into his TMUA. I am a nervous wreck.

Hope he (and you!) are ok and it went well! I’m sure you’ll both be relieved to put it behind you. Those doing admissions tests deserve their half term break so much!!

justteanbiscuits · 15/10/2026 19:16

Need to make some half term plans!

QueenMabby · 15/10/2026 20:16

DD’s half term plan of catching up on her sleep is currently being eroded by holiday work! And the prospect of four tests in the first week back. 😬

Zurbaran · 15/10/2026 21:06

A little update here: DD’s application went in on Monday (History, Oxford) and this evening she got her first offer, from York. Very excited. They drop one for an A grade EPQ so it’s AAB, a great insurance.

summernameandthelivingiseasy · 15/10/2026 22:46

@Zurbaran I am so glad oyu mentioned this - as it prompted me to check why DD had not had similar and it turns out her EPQ is not on her UCAS. So now we have the joy of trying to correct that.

Not York's fault, to be fair, they aren't mindreaders. Sigh.

namechanged221 · 15/10/2026 23:22

Update here too, DS has got an offer from York, AAA for History and Economics with an A in History essential.

He’s pleased!

Zurbaran · 16/10/2026 09:42

@summernameandthelivingiseasyeek, hope that’s easy to sort.
York are the only one of DD’s choices who take EPQ into account, it’s a good bonus.

Eccle80 · 16/10/2026 10:39

Great news on the York offers!

BumpyaDaisyevna · 16/10/2026 12:28

My Dd (history) got an offer from Leeds - first one and very speedy given she only sent it on Wednesday! It’s AAB but ABB if her EPQ is ultimately graded A star.

It feels quite real now! She is chuffed and I think pleased they want her!

CrunchyNutCake · 16/10/2026 12:53

Great news on the offers coming through. DS received an AAB offer from Manchester a couple of days ago, as well as York and Bristol. Manchester is Plan B, which he would be very happy with if Oxford doesn't work out.

QueenMabby · 16/10/2026 13:49

Great news on the offers! Dd has had an offer from Birmingham today. Don’t know the grades yet though.

AyeFairEnough · 16/10/2026 13:55

First offer here too! Unconditional from Aberdeen - it’s probably his last choice but delighted to know he has an unconditional in the bank!

RatherBeOnVacation · 16/10/2026 16:03

Yes - first offer through for my daughter for Aerospace Engineering at Birmingham. Don’t know the grades yet though - daughter did a quick WhatsApp in her lesson 😂😂

To be honest in one quick moment it has taken all the pressure off, even if it’s her fifth choice. Also it’s a nice sweetener after her disastrous ESAT. Congrats to all the others getting offers through too!

namechanged221 · 16/10/2026 17:32

@CrunchyNutCake what subject is that for at Manchester?

Justlurkingmostly · 16/10/2026 17:35

Hooray! An offer has arrived to make the weekend a bit more relaxing, phew!! AAA offer from Bristol and DD has visibly unwound a bit. She loved the course so a very strong contender, although she’d prefer a campus I think.

RatherBeOnVacation · 16/10/2026 17:46

Birmingham Aerospace offer is AAA

@CrunchyNutCake what subject is that for at Manchester?

It's for Music. We went to the open day at the beginning of Year 12 when he was deciding between Physics and Music - as it's a great option for both subjects. He loved the university and the city, and while he really enjoyed the Physics taster and talks, the Music ones absolutely lit him up and helped him decide to follow his heart. These YP are so lucky to have a passion at their age - I wish I had!
