My DD is high achieving and has offers from all she wants but she's thinking of Exeter.,it was the most popular place at her school last year and everyone else I'm chatting to says their DC want it.
We didn't visit but I can see it's in a beautiful place. Any thoughts ?

I hope she goes somewhere she really wants not becsuee it's the fashion.

@WombatChocolate I completely agree. Many parents seem very happy to point the finger at people they perceive to be better off than them and make dc distrust other dc. I find it very odd and believe everyone should be accepted on their merits.

It is inevitable that ex boarding dc are attracted to catered colleges or halls. To be very honest, they are accepting of “ordinary” food and make the best of it. They just delay cooking for themselves for one year - many of us might like not cooking for a year when you have a lifetime ahead of doing it.

I didn't manage to get to the Exeter open day because of Reasons but my DC and her father went. My child is attracted by the choice of modules and options for her chosen subjects: it's much more flexible than the other universities she has visited, although she visited the University of East Anglia this weekend and was very impressed and says it's a close second to Exeter.

A slight detour on the topic but may be relevant for some. Unfortunately, dd had a mental health crisis involving hospitalisation over the weekend. Uni helped her in the middle of the night and duty of care meant that they could call me. They liased with me well, I headed down and could see it was a temporary setback (which we had been warned about). Uni have kept me up to date and are checking in with her to ensure she is safe. If this is something that you are worried about for your yp, I hope it helps put you at ease. Dd is ok, we have had a very difficult journey since covid and a lack of mental health support until the worst had happened. I have visited her. She seems completely happy at Exeter and I am able to sleep at night with the support on campus. She moves off campus next year, so more things for us to think about but I learnt long ago to take it day by day.

I'm pleased to hear that they have responded well, that is reassuring indeed. But most importantly, I hope your DD continues to get all the support she needs and recovers well and is able to continue onbeing happy at Exeter xx.
