I for one still have a kid waiting to hear about interviews. Thought I'd carry it over...

That’s great news.
My DS has all offers in from other Universities and has one Oxford interview left to go…then we can start to enjoy our holiday 😀

Where else has your DS applied?

Nearlyadoctor · 17/12/2024 15:47

Dd had 2 interviews for Oxford last week ( History @ Christchurch) but wasn’t called for a 3rd interview so I’m guessing that means a definite yes or no ?
She’s had offers from Warwick, Exeter and Durham so will be happy either way .

BoldHam · 17/12/2024 17:11

hi everyone, not really posted on this thread before. DS2 had one interview at C last week for maths. He hasn't got a clue if he's done well enough to get an offer. He was incredibly nervous beforehand (to the extent that he had to dash to the loo to be sick just before) and the interview panel commented that he seemed nervous too. His was an in person one so I guess the whole experience of staying overnight had made it fairly high pressured. He panicked at the selection of questions in the prep session prior to the interview - pretty much an 'omg I don't understand any of these' but once he got in there felt he answered them to the best of his abilities. He's just waiting to see if he has an offer from Warwick now but I'm guessing that will be after Christmas either way !

AsTearsGoBy · 17/12/2024 17:23

If it's History then yes, your DD has either made the cut at her first choice college or been declined. I'm curious as to why a clear yes or a clear no would muddy the waters though? There can be very good reasons for wanting to go to a different uni so surely your DD could accept the preferred choice now, before the Oxford offers are out in January? Or perhaps you mean that she'd like to hold Oxford as her insurance, if it comes through with an offer on the 14th? Given its low standard offer I can see that might be something some offerees might want to do.

AsTearsGoBy · 17/12/2024 17:25

I meant to quote your post InformEducateEntertain - the above was in response.

DC's second college interview yesterday she said was much less formal than the first two last week - said it was much more of a chat. Is this the norm? Or just the college is more relaxed perhaps than the first one, which sounded brutal? She's worried she didn't look at clever as the questions were so general that she felt she couldn't shine.
There's a part of me hoping that that's because they knew she'd already had a grilling last week, but another part of me hoping it's not because they think she wasn't worth the second interview so just couldn't be bothered. I need to stop trying to second guess as it's pointless but I can't help it!

This sounds very much like a confirmatory interview Misfitkickedoutonthestreet. That the second college was confident it wants to offer (on the basis of what the the first college said - and that college may well simply not had quite enough room to offer itself), and just wanted to touch base.

Misfitkickedoutonthestreet · 17/12/2024 18:17

@AsTearsGoBy I hope you are right! That would be the best case scenario- so fingers crossed. Final one today which was similarly low-key and far less stressful than last week. She said they were just much nicer so if she does get this college it would be a blessing.

AsTearsGoBy · 17/12/2024 18:20

I wouldn't bet my mortgage on it Misfit but I'd put ten quid on for sure!

simonthedog · 17/12/2024 20:18

InformEducateEntertain · 17/12/2024 09:44

@AsTearsGoBy it's History at Oxford.
DD doesn't actually want to go as their first choice have now made a good offer so I'd like to know if we can just lay it to rest now. Seems possibly not.

My DD is exactly the same. One interview for History at Oxford, which she thought went well.

Nearlyadoctor · 17/12/2024 21:08

Is there a reason some of the History applicants at Oxford had 2 interviews as it seems from the previous few posts @AsTearsGoBy , @simonthedog and some have only had one. Both dates for Dd were given at the same time so she had one interview last Monday and then again on the Wednesday.
Both were for the same college ( she applied to New College but was interviewed by Christchurch)

My child was also very very nervous for their in-person Cambridge interviews last week.

They said they went totally blank in the interview for the first 5 minutes and could barely speak.

In fact, at the end of the first interview, one of the interviewers told them they had to try and not let the nerves affect them so much in the 2nd interview.

The 2nd interview went a lot better, so who knows?

AsTearsGoBy · 17/12/2024 21:50

Possibly posters are using one History interview to mean interviews at one college only? As opposed to being pooled to a second college?

AsTearsGoBy · 17/12/2024 21:51

That was to Nearlyadoctor. Not having much luck with quoting other posts tonight :)

Juja · 17/12/2024 22:04

@Misfitkickedoutonthestreet Your DC would have been scored well and been handed on with detailed feedback by their first college so the second college would have had a pretty good idea of what their strengths were. So no need to do the third degree inquisition! So hard to second guess but it sounds positive.

Good luck to all over the coming weeks - hope you can all enjoy Christmas and chill out a bit - though probably most people have mocks to prepare for...

Maybe it depends on the college. DD had one interview at Worcester college. During the interview they said she would hear the following Friday or Monday if she had another one, and not to worry about it either way. She didn't hear anything. We can only assume she is either definitely in or definitely out.

Coldilocks · 18/12/2024 07:51

DS had two interviews yesterday. He said the first went well but the second was conducted by a Physics lecturer asking Maths questions (for a CS degree). DS didn’t understand the first question at all as he had not covered anything remotely like this at a school so he is now very deflated and thinks he won’t get an offer. Fortunately DD and her boyfriend are here with us for a few days and tried to bolster him up.

Mollymoondog · 18/12/2024 08:07

@simonthedog Same as my DD for History at Worcester. One interview and was told she would hear last Friday but nothing at all.

AsTearsGoBy · 18/12/2024 08:39

simonthedog or Mollymoondog how many people were interviewing, out of curiosity?

No idea. Although DD did read on a forum that it may have been more than usual due to the problems with the HAT.

coffeerevelsrule · 18/12/2024 10:32

My ds had one interview for history. He felt it went badly so was hoping for a second but didn't have one so he's in or out (he thinks out). The college made no mention of a second interview though so he knew it would just have been if he'd been pooled.

Mollymoondog · 18/12/2024 13:18

Two were interviewing. My DD thought her HAT exam went well

PalmedOlive · 18/12/2024 13:29

My DS had his last maths interview this morning. Thought it went well (but who can tell!). He’s just exceptionally pleased they’re over and he can relax for a bit. Felt like his finished quite late compared to others. Still has TMUA in Jan to look forward to though - and mocks 😩😂

Dd was the same 2 interviewers at each interview and relatively pleased with her HAT. 🤞for them all.

pandapoop · 19/12/2024 16:34

Looks like today was the last day for any interviews at O (from their online schedule) - C dont publish their timetable but assume they are all done now as well?

Wishing all candidates the very best outcomes and some peace and rest over the holidays - but to pivot any mental energy to focusing on planning the next 6 months and getting their best grades they can.

If this was C then the dont do additional interviews for those pooled like O do.

There is also a post earlier on this thread where candidates were asked to rate their performance just after the interview and these were then followed up weeks later to add in offer or not. Zero correlation between the two.

So dont read anything into his subjective assessment of the interview or lack of additional interviews.

Last year my nephew was passed through three separate colleges to jump through and perform interviews X3. So hopes were raised. He was rejected and devasted.

Prepare for th worst and hope for the best.
