Has anyone heard back from LSE yet?

DD has applied to study International Relations and has heard nothing so far. Has anyone else had any response yet, offer or rejection?

how difficult is it to switch at LSE after the first year? my DS in this predicament, finding econ too hard and not enjoying it at all. Very stressed.

Given he's doing the econ stream they now have not very. He should speak to his academic mentor asap

I'm not sure how easy it is but I know it definitely happens - mostly to Management. Your DS needs to talk to his personal tutor ASAP.

Sorethroatpain · 04/04/2024 11:43

Anyone else still waiting? My DC still hasn’t heard from LSE or UCL.

Penguinsa · 04/04/2024 11:48

Still waiting here.

mondaytosunday · 04/04/2024 11:50

Yes still waiting for Sociology. I know some offers have been made for the subject in March. Still waiting on Bath too.

Penguinsa · 04/04/2024 11:59

DD has a fellow student who has recently been offered LSE Economics and its quite nice as he was rejected from Cambridge and a 4 A star candidate with excellent extra curriculars so school had expected him to have an offer. DD is happy he's got it over her. Still waiting on 5th choice as well and 3 offers but its the offers DD wanted for firm and insurance and her issue is she can't decide which for insurance - Bath or Bristol. Bath is the marginally better offer but apparently Bristol is better for parties. 🤔

mondaytosunday · 04/04/2024 12:15

@Penguinsa a reputation for parties would put my DD off! Funny what they value...my DD is really trying hard to picture herself in a modern building (that Cambridge dream).

LadyVioletCrawley · 04/04/2024 15:55

Friend of my DS got his IR offer at the start of May last year!

Penguinsa · 04/04/2024 16:21

MondaytoSunday I would have been like your DD and put off by any mention of parties though having said that at uni it was only 20% female so I got dragged into random parties and started to like them. Bizarrely, Exeter, where she could have got a low contextual offer, she wouldn't apply for on the grounds it had too many parties🤔and too far. And her 5th choice I just don't understand at all she applied within 30 mins before the 31 Jan deadline for a stats degree, a very competitive one where there's never any accommodation for insurance candidates, when all her other ones are for Economics and ps is all about economics and that's what she wants to do. She said it was for a lower offer. Though at least she has thought that one through more now.

I would maybe get your DD to call Bath admissions as it seems odd she hasn't got an offer, they were lovely with DD when she called them as they had given her an offer pretty instantly but not contextual and there she qualifies for contextual and they were really kind and changed it straight away to a lower offer. I would maybe just phone and say she's really keen to go there and do they know when she will hear or something like that and see if you can speed them up or check there's not been an error. DD is also 3 A stars so it seems odd your DD would not have an offer. Looks like a lovely uni - its modern but Bath is so nice.

mondaytosunday · 09/04/2024 17:30

She just found an email from Bath dated February saying they are still considering her application and should hear by April 30th, s just have to wait.
She's now missed signing up for the open day at LSE which is fully booked, and can we find an email for admissions? We cannot. She won't call them (to ask if they'll let her attend). I believe they give out wristbands when you register so she feels she can't just show up.
They've also stopped doing the guided tours they were running most weeks.

Cremebrulee45 · 09/04/2024 17:38

@mondaytosunday hopefully she will hear from Lse before the offer holder day? I think the guided tours will still happen in May? It’s just that it’s holiday now.
We went last year and yes there were wristbands although I don’t recall them being needed apart from for a free Mr Whippy - though I know my Dd would be equally reticent to turn up without a ticket. Hope she hears from both LSE and Bath soon!

catPA · 09/04/2024 19:13

When DC applied for LSE some years ago, they seemed to have a system where offers would be made on Thursdays and rejections on Fridays. Is this still the case? It went on until well into May. DC was on TSR and even on the deadline day, loads still hadn't heard. I don't know if they ever did!

You do wonder what they're actually doing - reading one word of the PS per week?

mondaytosunday · 09/04/2024 22:18

She sent an email in the end to an address we found, which was to the wrong department but they kindly sent her contact details for the open day organiser.
Our fear, @Cremebrulee45, is that the offer day will also be fully booked as it is in a couple weeks, plus it clashes with the Bath offer holder day. The website only has March listed and April there aren't any tours due to open/offer days/holidays. Maybe they will list some in May in due course.

Cremebrulee45 · 09/04/2024 22:53

@mondaytosunday hope you have some luck with the open day as backup. As far as I can see at the moment the offer holder day is still available. Loads of them seem to be on 24th!

mondaytosunday · 10/04/2024 00:16

Good to know @Cremebrulee45

Sorethroatpain · 17/04/2024 20:23

Another two weeks has passed since my last post...and still no news here. We're expecting a rejection but just want to know! DC's first choice is likely to be Durham if no LSE offer miraculously appears. Durham want DC to submit college choices within the next two weeks, which will mean devoting time to getting that right. It's a strange system as you have to apply for a college even before you've accepted their offer. That exercise could be a pointless waste of time should a late LSE offer arrive!

mondaytosunday · 17/04/2024 21:30

Exactly like us @Sorethroatpain! DD ssid Durham sent a reminder about colleges. We stayed at Chads when we went to the offer holder day, and she's keen on a Bailey college as closer to her course (Elvet Riverside) and wants catered. But agree, why allocate now with the chance of a change after results? My DD has an unconditional offer, but still could be 'moved'. And to be frank she'd not want to go at all if they gave her Collingwood, for example.
Anyway, come on LSE - she thought about crashing the open day today but it was first day back at college. She emailed the open day organisers but they never got back to her. Still spaces for next week and the taster session she could make - just needs the offer! Bath too could pull its finger out.

GreekGod · 18/04/2024 04:33

Nothing yet for us either re LSE. Durham has sent DD re colleges but likely to reject Durham and Bristol and go to UCL if we’re rejected from LSE. Bit worried re accommodation in London as we’ve been sent 2 reminders from UCL that it is first come first served basis. Can’t even book our holidays as waiting to see where she’s going as UCAS have stated that LSE economics starts on 1st September which is very early and we have 2 other DC. Frustrating. And DD keeps checking constantly. Urgh.

MarchingFrogs · 18/04/2024 07:03

1st September is the 'official' start date for the academic year - not the actual start of the teaching term, which according to the 'current students' page on the website is Monday 30th September (so welcome and enrolment woukd be the week before).

Unless your DD has had specific other information about the BSc Economics teaching term dates?

Needmoresleep · 18/04/2024 14:12

DS got increasingly despondent whilst waiting to hear from LSE (and Warwick and UCL). Really difficult during the run up to A levels. I finally phoned the UCL and LSE admissions offices anonymously saying that as a mum I was trying to support him, and it would be useful to know when he might hear.

They gave me the date by which they hoped to have all offers out. It help, and de facto I got my chance to tell them how difficult the wait was for applicants.

mondaytosunday · 18/04/2024 16:23

@Needmoresleep can you share the date? Was it May 16th?

cognito · 18/04/2024 16:54

LSE seem to release offers in dribs and drabs - they make a certain amount of offers, then wait to see how many firm or insure before making more offers.

cognito · 18/04/2024 17:18

In DD's A-level class a couple of years ago, two of them applied for the same subject. Both had 3 A star predictions and also A star EPQs achieved. They kept them both waiting until May. They offered to the friend in mid May. They kept DD waiting until 6pm on the actual deadline day and then rejected her. It was awful at the time, as she'd also been rejected from Oxbridge in the Jan. Even on the deadline day that year, I remember there were people on TSR who hadn't heard.

What happened next was, on results day in August, the friend was shocked to get a B in one of her subjects. So she didn't get into any of her uni choices and had to retake the subject she got a B in. It all worked out in the end, she got the A star in the retake and ended up going to UCL which is a better course anyway as there is an option for an overseas year.

DD did meet her predicted grades and for various reasons of her own, decided not to take up Durham, Bath or UCL (much to my horror at the time)! She took a gap year, reapplied to Oxford (and LSE!). She received an unconditional from Oxford by the Jan, so didn't bother waiting for LSE after that. She didn't actually want to study in London (as we live quite near LSE as it is) - so in retrospect, LSE definitely did her a favour by rejecting her as she would have probably gone if they had. And the gap year was probably the best decision she made, looking back. But it was horrible at the time and so drawn out. It really made her get quite depressed actually, and this is why she couldn't get excited about her other offers.

This was several years ago. Things have not changed. The wait is awful. Fingers crossed for everyone.

thank you for this @MarchingFrogs seems rather odd to me that Durham, Bristol, Warwick and UCL state that the course starts at the end of September but LSE only state 1st September on UCAS ? shouldn't they all state 1st September or all state 30th September. Anw, we are just going to wait - sods law says that as soon as we book a holiday and pay a fortune, we will hear either way, good or bad so we've waited this long,
