Hi all,

My ds is so excited to go to Nottingham- he only recently applied through UCAS extra and got his place on results day! He has gone round the houses regarding what degree to do...!

We have pretty much left it to him to choose his course and Uni since he will be the one living there and studying . He is really excited about the course and can't wait to start!

Am I worrying over nothing? I have heard Nottingham Uni is renowned for parties more than some others and he is not a drinker nor a party person.

I am sure he will just need to find his tribe! Am I worrying over nothing ( probably because it is my first child) - sorry!

@crazycrofter Thanks very much, it sounds great. My ds also loves the campus, would go to the gym and also is very sociable, however they have not been out partying to nightclubs yet so was just trying to understand how easy it will be to make friends. They are a from a state school so wondering if there are a good mix of people from different types of schools.

@hjklop dd went to state sixth form, and independent for secondary and her only comment has been that Nottingham has quite a white middle class vibe - especially on campus. She's been brought up in a very diverse city so it seems a bit odd to her. But she's made loads of friends and not found it at all cliquey, Statistically there are way more students who've been to state schools than private, but it doesn't have any bearing on who they make friends with anyway.

@hjklop hiya my ds went to a state school and had never gone clubbing. The boys were so lovely- when he told them I thought they might be unkind but truth be told they were all so lovely! They took him to his first club and made sure he was okay!

They get Ubers home ...all together!

Though none of my DC chose Nottingham they all have peers who did and enjoyed / are still enjoying their time there

A friend's son started at Nottingham this year. He's in one of the catered halls on campus and says those halls are definitely more white middle class/ people from independent schools - probably because they're more expensive. He's from an inner city state comp and really noticed it at first, but he's loved it and had had a great first year.

HI @hjklop my DD has just finished her first year at UoN and has had an absolute ball. She was in Broadgate as she wanted to self cater but it is so close it feels on campus. She is a bit of a gym bunny so the facilities were a huge draw - it is amazing (I used them when I went to visit). There are a vast range of activities so you really can find your tribe.

The majority of the students on the Jubilee Campus seem to be Chinese. I often go to one of the coffee shops there. My dad thought it was hilarious that there were notices in the toilets, telling students to put toilet paper in the toilet, not the bin.
