Unis where no public transport required

Anyone know of any universities where you don’t need to use public transport - even when ‘living out’ in years 2&3? DS was a bit put off by Southampton as buses required to get to campus (even in 1st year).

Everywhere in Exeter is walkable. The only time my DD gets public transport is to go to the beach at the weekend!

I am surprised Newcastle keeps getting mentioned.

Most students live in Jesmond, which is easily walkable from the main university. In the nicer months the students often stop off in Exhibition Park. West Jesmond is only two stops to Haymarket on the metro if they don't want to walk.

To second what @RampantIvy says, DD is a second year in Newcastle, the halls are all close to the Uni buildings and the second/third years tend to live in Jesmond and walk. The metro is used if traveling back from the train station with luggage, with shopping from the market or to go to the beach!

Exeter, easy peasy. Of course there's always Cardiac Hill but it's great for keeping you fit and I'm assured by dd throughout her first year FABULOUS for cardio - hence the name. There's a campus cat too.

My lads at Portsmouth , has a house off campus from sept and it's a 15 min walk for him to lectures obs lot less if he gets a bike

UEA has got a cat. Actually, he belongs to a normal person out in the real world, but apparently with the owner's blessing spends most of his time being adored on campus. He's even got merch.

There’s a cat at Sheffield too, endcliffe village, got its own TikTok

He has his own Facebook page too!

Sheffield cat is called Harold and makes him
self at home in the student flats

Aber, excellent languages department. Unless something untoward happens you shouldn't have to go more than a couple of times a year.

NeverendingCircus · 03/06/2023 16:50

Oxford/Oxford Brookes. Most Brookes students live in Headington which is easy walking distance from campus. And Oxford students live in college.

Newcastle/Northumbria - enough housing nearby to walk into campus and both unis are right un the town centre - walking distance from all the shops and bars. Afaik, Sheffield and Nottingham are similar town centre unis and both in lively towns with everything in easy reach.

Kingston - student accommodation is near the uni which is very easy walking distance to town centre, shops, venues, bars etc.

What's the issue with public transport?

Bristol, as long as he gets Clifton or city centre halls rather than Stoke Bishop.

Bit confused about the Southampton thing tbh. You can easily walk or cycle to Highfield campus from the halls in Glen Ayre or Swaythling. It’s hardly any distance. You can get student houses in Portswood which is a short walk. And the Unilink buses if you really did need them are comfortable, regular, have Wi-Fi etc.
