I’m wondering if Bath and/York wait until all applications are in and then start offering or if they start offering immediately.

It may depend on subject. But Bath made a swift offer for maths for DD in November a few years ago.

PettsWoodParadise · 04/11/2022 15:15

DD got an offer end of last week for York for starting in 2023. English Lit.

Geamhradh · 04/11/2022 15:17

My daughter was an early applicant as she also applied for Oxbridge. Got her Bath offer around March iirc.

Geamhradh · 04/11/2022 15:19

Just checked- 17th Feb. Thought it was later, it seemed like it!

sparkles18 · 04/11/2022 16:39

My Ds has an offer from York for Music. Offer was made on 14th October.

My DD had a Bath offer on the 29th October last year, we were very surprised as we thought it would be much later.

BeyondMyWits · 04/11/2022 17:32

Dd was offered Bath in Feb a couple of years ago for Pharmacology.

LIZS · 04/11/2022 17:34

York may invite to an applicant day first, usually Jan/Feb.

Meery · 04/11/2022 17:38

York have already offered my ds for history

hockeygrass · 04/11/2022 19:41

York offered to my dd this week within 24hrs of receiving her application.

An ‘Applicant Day’? I’ve never heard of anywhere having applicant days. Did your DC have an ‘applicant day’ at York?

@NotDonna , most uni's have a open day for offers which is what is meant by an applicants day. It's an open day for those with offers for the uni and focus's more on course content, accommodation etc, they are held in the Spring.

hockeygrass · 04/11/2022 21:31

Sorry I just re-read this, I think Liz means an interview day.
Anyway York have been quick off the mark for psychology for my dd.

LIZS · 04/11/2022 21:42

@NotDonna just checked with dd and I stand corrected . It was an offer-holder day. The only one that interviewed her pre-offer was Southampton.

LIZS · 04/11/2022 21:47

Offer was October/November.

OrangeBlossom28 · 04/11/2022 21:50

My DD was offered a place by York mid November last year. A friend's DD has applied this year and has been invited to interview for Maths by York. Interview is towards the end of the month.

ShaunaTheSheep · 04/11/2022 21:53

DC's first offer was York psychology last year, within 5 days of submitting UCAS. They went to offer holder day in the Spring, having missed out on the open days.

I think Bath were pretty quick for another DC a couple of years earlier.

NotDonna · 04/11/2022 22:36

Were the predicted grades above their standard offer @Meery @PettsWoodParadise @hockeygrass @sparkles18 for York as these are a quick turn around!

OP posts:
NotDonna · 04/11/2022 22:40

@Allicando were the predicted grades higher than their standard offer or was she an early applicant please?

My understanding from a former colleague who works at a top ten university is that they will all typically make fairly quick offers to applicants with predictions over their standard requirements but then hold back more on those who either just meet requirements or who are predicted lower so that they can see what their numbers are like. Obviously there are exceptions and in some cases on some courses they will know that they can make offers to those who just meet the requirements since they’ll know if they are typically under subscribed.

its a complex balance since they obviously make more offers than they have available places knowing that lots of those offers will be turned down.

Neolara · 04/11/2022 22:54

Last year my dd got an early offer from York and an offer in March I think from Bath. Bath said they were waiting for all applications to be in before giving out offers. Dd had very high predicted grades. This was for maths.

NotDonna · 04/11/2022 23:10

This us really helpful, thank you so much!

@NotDonna DD is predicted 3,A stars and top in an EPQ, , offer from York is AAA.

an offer from another Uni reduces the qualifying score by a grade if she does well in EPQ but no mention of it at York.

DS is predicted 4 A stars and received a contextual offer of BBB.
