Flowers @simbobs

LouisCatorze · 23/12/2022 09:33

@simbobs hoping that your DD gets the help she needs very soon.

Good that your DS doesn't have COVID but if he has a nasty virus that's not great, particularly with your need to be well to be able to support your DD. This is where one needs a big house with a 'wing' to send the ill off to. Can you confine him to his room and instigate the type of COVID+ protocol that was advised during the pandemic?

simbobs · 23/12/2022 11:21

@LouisCatorze we are keeping DD safe with the covid protocol that we used in the summer when DH and I both had it. Food is left outside her door and nobody enters her room. Unfortunately, she will have to share a bathroom with DS so we have put sanitisation rules in place. I feel like cancelling Christmas this year 😔

LouisCatorze · 23/12/2022 11:29

Oh dear @simbobs. Perhaps you could postpone celebrating until your DS is feeling better (and hopefully no-one else has come down with his virus)? I know it won't be quite the same but it will be something nice to look forward to?

Thinking of you. I know it's no consolation but I know a lot of people who are not feeling the festive spirit this year, for various reasons.

Benjispruce4 · 23/12/2022 21:26

Sounds hard @simbobs .
could your DD / DS use your bathroom ? We only have one but it read as though you had more.
DD arrived home this evening. Really good to see her as last visited her in October half term. She has a nasty cough though so she has eaten, had a hot shower and gone to bed. I think she’ll enjoy some home comfort .

RampantIvy · 23/12/2022 23:14

Just got back from collecting DD from her very delayed train. She has been telling me all about the number of boxes of biscuits and chocolates they have been given from grateful patients and customers. They have a wall of Christmas cards as well. I had no idea that the general public were so kind to the staff in pharmacies.

Merry Christmas everyone 🌲

Happy Christmas all!

A bit late for Happy New Year now. Is this thread still going?

Ragwort · 15/01/2023 14:54

Happy New Year Smile.

I think some of us are still around, DS just returned to NTU after the Christmas break (& the Uni ski trip which he loved). He's had a couple of job interviews, one in London last week (that's where he wants to be) and despite meeting seven different people at the three hour interview he has been asked to do a Zoom call with someone else. So, fingers crossed.

Good luck to any other students in their job search.

RampantIvy · 15/01/2023 16:49

I'm still here.

Happy new year.

DD is applying for a masters and is getting really stressed because her personal tutor from when she was a student isn't replying to her emails. She went to see someone at the university to get a critique of her personal statement, and is ready to send off her application, but she can't put her referee down without getting permission.

The job is still going well, and the one girl who is a PITA becasue she gets everything wrong and doubles everyone's work load has dropped to Saturdays only, so DD is overjoyed that she doen't need to work with her any more. It does mean that Mondays are extra busy because everyone has to redo the girl's work - redoing the prescriptions and dosette boxes correctly and putting the stock back in the right place.

Worryingly, this girl is a pharmacy student. If she qualifies as a pharmacist heaven help her customers.

LouisCatorze · 15/01/2023 19:06

Happy New Year everyone who is left on this thread.

Fingers crossed for your DS with his job application @Ragwort .

Good luck to your DD with applying for her Masters. How frustrating that her ex personal tutor isn't replying? Is there a deadline for her application?

How did you get on over Christmas with the bathroom situation (and trying to keep your DD free from viruses) @simbobs ? Hope all was well.

@icanbewhatiwant has your DS1 gone off on his travels now. What an amazing adventure for him. I am most envious, particularly as he will be leaving behind the cold, wet weather for summer in NZ.

Hello and happy new year! DD was home for a week but unwell on her return . Luckily ok for Christmas Day. She has mangaged to get a graduate position starting next summer with HSBC. She’s doing well at a management consultancy but this new role is £10k more plus pays a joining fee of several thousand. It’s crazy to me in the public sector but I’m pleased for her as she needs it renting in London.

LouisCatorze · 15/01/2023 19:21

That's great news for your DD @Benjispruce4 .

Happy new year everyone.

@LouisCatorze yes ds1 is in NZ. He's been there a week. He's met quite a few fellow travellers and is enjoying himself. I'll add 2 photos he sent yesterday to make everyone jealous. I think I've blanked out the faces so you can't see them. It looks like he's enjoying himself anyway. One is of some of the group, there are 50 altogether. Then Ds kayaking with the mate he went with.

Great news Benji so pleased for your DD - London rents are so high, I worry for my DS as the role he is applying for does not have a very high starting salary, sales oriented so it will depend on bonuses etc (fortunately he proved himself quite a good salesperson in his industry year position!) ... and ican's DS - what a wonderful experience.

RampantIvy · 15/01/2023 20:11

Is there a deadline for her application?

Yes, next week!

Well done to your DD @Benjispruce4.

DD has decided that she wants to stay in the North East. London doesn't hold any attraction for her at all. Glad your DS is enjoying NZ @icanbewhatiwant.

Benjispruce4 · 15/01/2023 20:13

Thanks .Photos look great @icanbewhatiwant 😎😀

bigTillyMint · 15/01/2023 22:00

@Benjispruce4 well done to your DD - that’s great!

Good luck to your DS Ragwort

simbobs · 15/01/2023 23:23

Nice to hear how everyone is getting on, and well done to all. My DS hasn't even started looking at jobs yet!! He had an exam last week and starts the home stretch tomorrow. We survived Christmas, though he was very unwell. No bugs were shared, thankfully. Seeing how advanced others are with their career plans I see the need to get on his case about applying for grad schemes.

RampantIvy · 16/01/2023 06:53

DD didn't even start looking for work until after university. She was far too stressed and didn't have the mental space or energy to find work while still studying. She was very lucky to find work that was relevant to what she wants to do so quickly.

Benjispruce4 · 16/01/2023 06:58

DD tried to apply whilst at uni but it was too time consuming. You have a couple of years to get grad schemes after graduation. DD’s current job isn’t a grad scheme though .

bigTillyMint · 16/01/2023 07:23

Lots of friends of children and children’s friends are having “gap” years after covid and uni slog - they will be working till they are 70 so there’s no rush!

Benjispruce4 · 16/01/2023 07:40

Totally agree, no rush. Though I do think they need to be working somewhere and funding their own gap years.

Ragwort · 16/01/2023 09:17

I think a gap year is very tempting, DS returned from his Uni ski trip with ideas of working a ski season if he doesn't get offered a job ... so sensible to have a back up plan.
