I bet you’re so proud of him @LouisCatorze, after all your concerns. How lovely he has a house and puppy too!

icanbewhatiwant · 07/11/2023 17:33

Yes it's great to hear everyone's news. Congrats to all.

Yes ds1 is still in NZ. He spent 4 months working in a restaurant, mostly washing up 10 hours a day, 5 days a week to earn money. But is now on the move again he's been on the South Island for 6 months or so. He actually went across to the north island yesterday. He will slowly moving north. He plans to sell his car shortly then has a plane ticket booked mid December for Sydney. He's booked in for 3 weeks at a hostel there until 2nd Jan. then who knows. He plans to find work.

I looked for this thread a month or two ago and couldn't find it. Lovely to hear all your updates.

DD is still affected by marking strike. She's awaiting results for two essays and her dissertation, but it fairly sure it's just one essay that hasn't been marked. She got on well with the person marking her others pieces so updated her on her job and received the comment she was pleased DD had done so well on final pieces of work.

DD started a graduate job in September. She'd studied sustainability. Obviously has a lot to learn but has been taken on as a Consultant for an Environment Consultancy - not what she studied but the same ethos. Even better it's in our local town, so she can stay at home and save.

Shimy · 08/11/2023 20:21

@ifonly4 oh my word! I cannot believe your DD is still waiting after all this time and thank good ness the delay hasn't been a barrier to her being offered employment.

chocolatenutcase · 09/11/2023 09:13

How lovely to hear the news from everyone. Graduate jobs, travel, adult children back at home!
I thought my DD was as late with her results but @ifonly4 your DD beats that! It's great she managed to get a graduate job.

ifonly4 · 20/11/2023 14:46

At long last DD received her result today from Edinburgh - 2.1 - it's what she expected, but there's always that doubt until you receive the final thing. She's got a distinction in one piece of work, but I don't know any more as she's at work.

Shimy · 20/11/2023 14:51

YAYYY!!! Congratulations to you all @ifonly4 That was a very long wait.

RampantIvy · 20/11/2023 15:00

Well done to your DD @ifonly4. Finally!

ZandathePanda · 20/11/2023 15:01

Well done! What a wait!

MargaretThursday · 20/11/2023 16:45

Well done @ifonly4 dd!
What a wait! I wonder how many have missed out/not felt able to apply for jobs because of the wait.

LouisCatorze · 20/11/2023 17:10

@ifonly4, very well done to your DD!

Well done to @ifonly4 DD. Such a worry for students not to get their results when they should. All seem to be off and flying now, and it somehow seems rather less relevant than it once did.

LouisCatorze · 21/11/2023 09:24

Wondering how many young people delayed getting final degree results have been adversely impacted when applying for jobs. Would graduate scheme job application sifting software be able to factor in 'TBC' results?

Lovely to catch up on all the news - they all seem quite grown up! My Ds is still not finished uni (4 year course plus placement year) so must be one of the last to finish. We were talking earlier & he said he’d booked a train to go home - but he was referring to going back to his uni city after Christmas. 😢

I know he loves it there but it really brought it home to me that he may stay living there forever!

simbobs · 07/12/2023 09:23

I know what you mean@Decorhate. His room is still here, and at some point I must take down his posters and redecorate it so that is a proper guest room, but it only has only really hit home in the last week or so, when updating friends in Christmas cards, that he really has flown the nest. He seems so much more grown up than I was expecting.

RampantIvy · 07/12/2023 10:17

Does anyone still include their DC's names in Christmas cards? I do, even though DD lives 100 miles away. It would feel like I have disowned her if I left her name off.

simbobs · 07/12/2023 14:55

@RampantIvy - Yes, absolutely! Still part of the pack.

Decorhate · 07/12/2023 18:31

Yes I include all of mine on cards still. This may be last year I sent cards though, after spending a scary amount on stamps today

bigTillyMint · 07/12/2023 19:18

I’ve stopped sending cards. Problem solved 🤣

However, both mine are living at home anyway 😀

LouisCatorze · 07/12/2023 21:21

I like your style @bigTillyMint!

I still have older relatives and older people who aren't on social media who really appreciate receiving a card. My card list has been cut down drastically, but I still send some.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas from me, too. I hope everyone gets to spend quality time with family and friends.

Ragwort · 23/12/2023 14:54

Happy Christmas all .. quiet Christmas here as DS is in New Zealand, for DH this is his first Christmas with our DS (I had one year without both of them went they went skiing!), he's a bit miserable about it but the main thing is DS having a wonderful time and joining a family over there that he has met recently who I am sure will make him very welcome.

bizzey · 23/12/2023 23:14

Happy Christmas 🎁🎁 to you all !

DS is also not home for Christmas day 😭!

Due to his gf work shift it would mean she was on her own for Christmas day.

I will see him the day after boxing day and we will " do " Christmas day then with presents and stockings!
