Hi
I have an eager year 7 son who has pestered me with a lot of questions on UK medicine study and I do not know anything about it .
Can you all guide based on your experience on everything that he needs to be doing to get right subjects, right exam , right coaching in Warwickshire and the target grades
He asked me for best uni as well but I am currently just relying on Google
His end goal is to become neurosurgeon so think it’s a long way for my learning as well about how this goes and how much I need to save ( or is there some scholarship in case he gets good marks etc) Smile

Do you have a link to where the medical schools have commented on this.
No, sorry, this was my understanding from discussions among medicine admissions tutors during 2020. I can't remember whether I saw the MSC's final submission. I do know there was strong opposition to any increase in the number of institutions applied to. In fact, I think many medical schools would like this reduced.

Under post qual offers there's no need for a major amendment to the application timetable. Kids still apply and get interviewed/have portfolios assessed etc in year 13 same as now. But offers aren't made until their results are out. So no need for firm/insurance.

It's pointless, doesn't fix the issue of WP that allegedly is a problem with the current system (it's not...), but gov consultations don't tend to listen to the experts.

Post qual applications is a different beast, and I hope has been dumped forever after it's brief airing.

Thank you all for chipping in
Just want to make clear that I am learning more and more from each post and these posts will help not only me but many more who do not have the network to get this info locally.
Some of the suggestions are about time since there is a big waiting list so please do chip in .
There are some personal experiences as well that are helpful and I do take them back to my son to check his opinion e.g. someone mentioning all kind of patients in surgery to which he responded it’s ok . But I appreciate that some of you see what I miss so please do continue advising

I had a conversation this week with a student who’d originally been interested in neurosurgeon as a career, same as your son, but actually decided that medicine wasn’t for him as a course choice, so he’s now considering operating department practitioner or straight neuroscience for his applications (next year). May be worth considering.
