Warwick Uni Accommodation

Hi All, my child has an offer and is looking at accommodation. I would be grateful for any opinions good or bad on the halls. Not looking for a 'party' hall. En suite not essential. Claycroft with 2 sharing a bathroom is a possibility. Any 'village' opinions? Any building work you know about? Many thanks

There's a brilliant FB group and associated website - What I wish I knew about University (WIWIKAU) . There are loads of really helpful people on their - someone is bound to have experience of Warwick. Many people are posting photos they've got from previous visits and self guided tours to help people out who haven't been able to visit this year. Warwick may feature.

There not their Blush

LoonvanBoon · 08/06/2021 11:07

There are lots of video accommodation tours on YouTube. One of the most useful ones we found was made by the Singapore society and includes most of the halls, looks at kitchens, bathrooms and shared spaces as well as bedrooms, and interviews lots of students.

All I can say is that my DD1 was in Jack Martin for her first year and loved it.

It was single rooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom. Kitchens were large and shared between about half a dozen students.

After that she spent the rest of her time at Warwick renting shared houses with her new friends in nearby Leamington Spa.

motherstongue · 08/06/2021 16:02

My DS was also in Jack Martin for his 1st year and loved every minute of it. He made lots of friends in the shared kitchen. His room was nice and had an en-suite.
Currently sharing a house with mates in Leamington.

Topseyt · 08/06/2021 17:48

My DH kept calling Jack Martin Jack Daniels! Grin A Freudian slip to which he is quite prone.

DD said it might be accurate!

Thanks everyone!

My dd is just finishing her first year at Warwick and is in Heronbank, which is meant to be slightly quieter. 6-8 per flat. She will be sharing a house with friends in leamington spa next year. Her younger brother visited her last week and described the kitchen as ‘disgusting’ - she says compared to others it is clean! One of her closest friends lives in Rootes and can’t wait to be in a house - very noisy with a party atmosphere in Rootes.

CalmConfident · 08/06/2021 19:35

This thread has made me nostalgic...nothing to add other than I had a fabulous time in Rootes in the late 90s 😆

Me too. I had a wonderful time in Rootes in 1981. H block to be precise.
magbob · 08/06/2021 19:43

Can I join in the reminiscing - I amaze my children by telling them that my rent in Whitefields was £18.50 per week. My year in Jack Martins was something like £32 per week. I felt pretty rich as a student with a £700 per term grant!

CalmConfident · 08/06/2021 19:48

I was in Rootes A block 93-93 then back on campus my final year in Redfern Flats 96-97

I attended a conference a few years ago abd was beyond excited at staying in Jack Martin!

DidgeDoolittle · 08/06/2021 19:55

My final year was in Redfern flats too.
I was in leamington on Friday. It was lovely to go back.

ShanghaiDiva · 08/06/2021 22:54

My ds was in lakeside, not a party hall.
His room was fine, nice view, kitchen between eight and en-suite. Reasonably close to business school, but not ideal if you plan to trek back from Tesco’s with a week’s worth of groceries.

Twizbe · 08/06/2021 23:09

Takes me back. I was in Benefactors in the early 00s ... that's been knocked down now :(

DH was in Westwood. He loved it there and they did have lovely rooms. Felt like the back of beyond though.

We were both in Claycroft for our 4th and maters year. They were really nice and a great location near to Tesco and the sports centre. We were both in the humanities building too.

Roots was the fun halls. Arthur Vick and Jack Martin were for the posh kids.

DidgeDoolittle · 09/06/2021 11:03

I didn't know Benefactors had been knocked down. That was full of frightfully rich Americans when I was there.

I had a dream one night that i was walking through the rubble of benefactors. I checked the next day and it had been knocked down 😱

It was a strange mix in that halls. I had a shared room but it was such a lovely huge room

Sparkletastic · 09/06/2021 12:50

I loved Westwood despite it not being anywhere on my pick list (accommodation office cock up!). It is a 20 minute walk but sometimes I biked it and in general the exercise was great for burning off the snakebite and black calories. Really big rooms and peaceful surroundings. Well handy for Cannon Park shopping.

DD1 is off to Warwick this year. Can't wait to relive my glory days. She probably won't let me visit her.

CalmConfident · 09/06/2021 12:54

Our shared kitchen looked out onto Benefactors, the spilt level rooms always looked great and quite fancy. I never met anyone who lived there to have a proper nosy round !

CalmConfident · 09/06/2021 12:56

I spent all my time walking up and down Gibbet Hill to lectures & lab.

Seems to have been rebuilt?

This sounds like the accommodation (duplex studio) that DH and I stayed in with 3 month old DS1 for my first workplace national conference after I had him (DS1, that isSmile).

Omg, I stand corrected. I'm sure I saw that it wasn't on the accommodation lists nor on the campus map when I looked last.

Well that makes me happy

RuthW · 09/06/2021 15:40

Rootes is for the party animals!

My dd was in Sherboune and it was lovely and quiet

helpmum2003 · 09/06/2021 18:22

Thanks everyone for the great info, all very useful!

Dd has put Rootes first. She does like to party, but also works hard. She also likes to cook ( she is vegan) so i hope the kitchens are not too horrible.
She has put all of the cheaper 40 week halls as her highest choices, as she would rather spend money on going out than on a big room. She also wants to be somwhere close enough to the centre of things to feel safe walking home at night.
