Carrying on from our previous thread.

I believe these threads have probably been running since the summer/autumn of when our DC were about to start/in Year 13 (so 2018)?

@Piggywaspushed is there a student union link too ? Know some Unis have set these up so students can help other students.
DD got bread, milk, fruit and veg as well as dried stuff. So might be better than you think. 🤞

Piggywaspushed · 07/11/2020 15:08

I shall text him again later!

We think we might fetch him home after this as we know he will have SI and be safe , or as safe for us as he can be.

mumsneedwine · 07/11/2020 15:12

@Piggywaspushed it's so hard isn't it. DD had 14 days stuck in her 3rd floor flat as flatmate was positive (no one else caught it). They managed ok but she was going a bit nuts by the end - they went for a midnight walk as soon as they could get outside. She wants to stay to Xmas and just trying to make the best of things.

simbobs · 07/11/2020 15:53

@piggywaspushed it's really tough, isn't it? I hope he manages to sort something out. I don't know how much students found out what would be available if they needed the help. This should have been pushed more by universities as soon as they went back.

bigTillyMint · 07/11/2020 17:37

@Piggywaspushed - trust your gut and what your DS wants to do.

bigTillyMint · 07/11/2020 17:39

@simbobs, it seems to vary so much between unis. And is there even any support for students living in private house-shares?

mumsneedwine · 07/11/2020 17:45

@bigTillyMint there should be. I know Nottingham are providing support to everyone. Although slightly easier for 2nd/3rd years as they already have friends who can provide shopping. Poor 1st years might not know anyone else well enough to ask.

MarchingFrogs · 07/11/2020 18:56

@Piggywaspushed I can appreciate that the one person in the household not having to self-isolate might feel a little bit put-upon, but it's only for a few days, so would they really refuse to go out for a few groceries for the others or at least, get a bit more stuff when shopping for themselves anyway? I think I'd be glad of the excuse to get out a bit more.

Benjispruce2 · 07/11/2020 19:22

DD is having a bye bye Trump party tonight with her housemates. I’m joining in.Best news of 2020! Grin

Piggywaspushed · 07/11/2020 19:28

I think he probably will, yes. Dunno why but DS doesn't seem to like to ask him.

I assume he isn't there at the moment, as he goes to see his gf at the weekends, form what I gather.

Benjispruce2 · 08/11/2020 09:30

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 08/11/2020 14:12

You'd like to hope the well flatmate would volunteer his services to SI flatmates.

Piggywaspushed · 08/11/2020 15:37

Apparently, there are two non SI housemates, so, yes, plenty of people who should could help!

bigTillyMint · 08/11/2020 16:11

How come there’s two in the same house that don’t have to SI @Piggywaspushed?

MarchingFrogs · 08/11/2020 16:23

Only the individuals concernerned have to self isolate where the infected person of whom they were a close contact during the relevant period is not a member of the same household.

Piggywaspushed · 08/11/2020 16:40

3 of the house were out on Monday night so came into close contact with someone who tested positive. The other two weren't out with them.

I have told DS his other housemates do need to keep their distance!

He was sniffing down the phone at me : hopefully a cold!

Benjispruce2 · 08/11/2020 17:34

Hi everyone. DD has signed for next year’s house and I have the job of signing as guarantor again. Always feels wrong to me being so far away and not meeting the landlord. Another £400 deposit before we’ve even seen the return of this year’s deposit brings me out in a sweat. Can I ask of those with older siblings already through this, did they get their deposits back?

sergeantmajormum · 08/11/2020 17:45

@benjispruce2 yes my elder DD got most (say 80% ish) of her deposits on 2 different places back - there were some deductions spread across them all for minor scuffs, broken chair leg etc but we didn’t have the energy to argue them. There didn’t seem to be any difference between direct landlord and agency. There was a wait tho after she vacated which was annoying and we had to hassle the agency several times, they have a reputation for late repayment that has been on BBC!

Benjispruce2 · 08/11/2020 17:51

Hmmm thanks @sargentmajormum. They tried the change a lightbulb and the fitting disintegrated. Landlord sent an electrician round so she’s worried they’ll be liable. They’re so vulnerable and didn’t ask which is frustrating and all parents too far away to pop round and do minor repairs. They’ve also moved closer to study centre for next year which is more ££.Sigh.

bigTillyMint · 08/11/2020 20:24

@Benjispruce2, DD has got all hers back so far. Even from the dreadful landlord last year! But it took a little while to come through - bizarrely as a cheque!
Closer in?! They are only a cockstride away as it is Grin

Benjispruce2 · 08/11/2020 21:17

That’s good to hear @bigTillyMint. Yes I know but apparently 3rd years tend to live closerHmm. I mean who cares? To me, save (my) money and walk further. It’s within a 5 min walk apparentlyConfused

bigTillyMint · 08/11/2020 21:29

No doubt DS will be doing the same Confused

LaBelleSauvage123 · 09/11/2020 20:52

DS and his flatmates have decided to live together next year so if any of you Newcastle lot have any top tips for student houses, fling them this way!
