Carrying on from our previous thread.

I believe these threads have probably been running since the summer/autumn of when our DC were about to start/in Year 13 (so 2018)?

GP appointments mainly on video call anyway so he could call his Lincoln GP.

Piggywaspushed · 08/12/2020 18:53

You ahve never seen feet like his. They are actual plates of meat. His hands are equally inelegant.

Piggywaspushed · 08/12/2020 18:54

Hadn't thought of that benji. Good point.

bigTillyMint · 08/12/2020 20:21

Yes @Benjispruce2 that’s how DD did hers!

VanCleefArpels · 08/12/2020 21:46

@Piggywaspushed don’t bother with GP - they will just have to refer to someone else which means more delay. Go straight to podiatrist who will be able to cut a big chunk of the nail off (not for the squeamish!) to relieve the pressure

Zandathepanda · 09/12/2020 09:19

Well that’s put me off my breakfast ConfusedGrin

Piggywaspushed · 09/12/2020 10:08

Bleurgh! Thanks vancleef. DS is a bit of a wuss so this will serve him right.

mum2eim · 09/12/2020 10:23

@Piggywaspushed podiatrist will sort out the ingrowing nail for good with the minor op but they won’t be able to treat any infection. I would suggest contacting the GP and podiatrist if the toe looks really swollen, red and especially if the redness is spreading up the toe or there is pus obvious The GP can be contacted via e-consult. Your DS (or you) can access his uni GP online, complete an e-consult (usually very obvious on the practice website) and upload a photo with the e-consult. The GP should call back and would possibly issue antibiotics electronically to a pharmacy local to you. Once the infection is clearing the podiatrist can sort it out properly.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 09/12/2020 11:17

Hope your DS's ingrown toenail issue gets sorted out soon @Piggywaspushed. What a palaver even a GP consult has become over the past nine months.

My DS is in Nottingham too .. he's dead anti social though so I doubt he's partying ... more likely in the gym

LaBelleSauvage123 · 09/12/2020 22:23

@Zandathepanda @Ginfordinner @simbobs and other Newcastle parents - when did your DC find their second year accommodation last year? DS and his flat mates ( 6 of them) started looking as soon as lockdown lifted but have found that houses in their favoured area ( Jesmond) are going really quickly. Now of course they’ve all had to come home because they’re in university accommodation so are relying on virtual viewings. They’re all panicking a bit as properties seem to be going so fast. Do they need to act now, or can they afford to wait until the New Year ( or 1st Feb?)

simbobs · 09/12/2020 22:41

@Labellesauvage I wish I could remember. My Newcastle DD is now 4th year but I seem to recall that when she was looking for her 2nd year house, having been in uni accommodation in 1st year, it was around this time, and confirmed in January. She was in Sandyford, near Jesmond and is there again now but in a different house. It is a bit cheaper but still convenient. Obviously nothing beats viewing in person but not possible at the moment. Do they know any students in the year above that might be moving out?

LaBelleSauvage123 · 09/12/2020 22:44

No they haven’t met many people in person because of lockdown.

Ginfordinner · 09/12/2020 22:59

@LaBelleSauvage123 I think it was November. I have just checked, and I signed the guarantor form at the beginning of December last year. DD said that accommodation was going really quickly this year. She is staying in Jesmond, but moving to a different house as there are only 4 of them sharing next year.

The house she is in now is lovely, and the landlord seems pretty helpful. He wanted them to stay another year, but some of the students will be on placements next year and they don't want to share with anyone else.

Jesmond is a really nice part of Newcastle and has a lovely vibe. There is a mix of students and families and isn't shabby like some student areas in other cities are.

They have gone through Bricks and Mortar this year.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 10/12/2020 01:54

@Ginfordinner do you know if their house has been relet? 🤔

Ginfordinner · 10/12/2020 07:15

Have PMd you @LaBelleSauvage123

LaBelleSauvage123 · 10/12/2020 08:16

Thank you - have followed up your lead and passed info to DS - those properties look great!

Zandathepanda · 10/12/2020 09:14

Have PMd you LaBelleSauvage too.
They were signed up by December.
This year Dd isn’t bothering as she may be doing an internship ConfusedHmm.

Benjispruce2 · 10/12/2020 17:16

Do any of your Dc have Christmas holiday work? DD2 was promised a few weeks work by her summer employer but she’s been let down because they ‘forgot’!

Benjispruce2 · 10/12/2020 17:16

DD1 (uni Dd) not DD2.

simbobs · 10/12/2020 18:22

Neither of mine has holiday work. There seems to be nothing around and DD will study all holiday anyway. DS may have found a paid project online but by the time he makes up his mind to apply it may have gone.

bigTillyMint · 10/12/2020 18:48

Well DS has been tutoring on zoom a couple of times a week - not sure if that will continue over Xmas. DD hasn’t, but she’s snowed under with Masters and job applications/assessments!

VanCleefArpels · 10/12/2020 18:53

No not working and I wouldn’t want her to really as she doesn’t need the ££ a d has Uni work to do. Without trying to sound po faced there are others that need a job more than she does at the moment

Ginfordinner · 10/12/2020 19:30

I agree with you VanCleefArpels
DD doesn't have the energy to work and has lots of studying to do over Christmas.

There are people who have lost their jobs and have families to feed. We can afford to support DD, so I feel that these jobs should go to those who need them more than she does.

Benjispruce2 · 10/12/2020 19:43

Some if not most students do need to work! We pay the shortfall in accommodation and food but she works for her spends.
