@LetUsPrey @sammyjoanne and fellow Lancaster mums - DD is still in isolation in Lonsdale with her positive flat mate - all being well it will end on Sunday. As she's autistic she's found it very difficult not being allowed out of the building so I think she's pretending to be a smoker Confused- I find it a bit surprising that no concession can be made at all given that she has a stonking DSA support package supposedly in place. I'm proud of her for coping though, more than I can express. My main worry now is with cases rising on campus that they will be released only to be contact traced again. She's also buying her own food in which is annoying given that she is in catered, but she says the meal. deliveries are not good... on the upside, she's had to concentrate on her studies for something to doGrin Would love to be up there with a care parcel but I'm also over six hours drive away so no chance unless I stay overnight. They do seem very happy on campus generally though which is great!

sammyjoanne · 12/10/2020 23:28

@BCBG i'm glad shes coping really well. Few more days to go an she can get out there. DD contacted her dad tonight, asking what nottingham is in the tier category and what it means for her. It means we are going to visit :)

Were about 3 hours away after traffic, so will book a last minute hotel (Dont want to jinx booking it now and she has to isolate) so will head on up there to see her.

With all these regulations about not mixing in doors, but yet your allowed to go to a restaurant in your own household. Surely we can book a table for one for DD1, and then a table for three for hubby DD2? We are not breaking the rules as is not a mixed household?' It would not make a difference if its family or a stranger, your always still going to have someone on the table next to you when your dining?

sammyjoanne · 12/10/2020 23:30

@ThrawnCow sorry to hear it :( hope hes got plenty of supplies to keep him going for the next few days x

sammyjoanne · 12/10/2020 23:57

@LetUsPrey happy birthday for your son :) DD had her 19th birthday first week of september, so she gets to miss the celebrations, but she told her dad shes very happy to be in tier 2 as one of her housemates birthday is on friday so they are off out.

@WellWoman One DD at uni at the moment, the eldest whose 19. DD2, the one that was ill with the virus, shes 15 and in her G.C.S.E year. She wants to go to uni too one day, and likes the look of Bangor. Lancasters about 3 hours drive including traffic from Nottinghamshire, this time probably stay over night in Travelodge in the city,(we stayed there August an holiday).
Train station, would say that's 10mins walk to the Travelodge, quite easy to get to.
Totally get the mummy thing, my daughter had a health issue 3 years ago (SVT), and although it was a one off, it could come back at any time so I've given her all the lectures on making sure her drink doesn't get spiked which could set it off, or making sure she has plenty of sleep. So first week I was thinking, is she alright, has she got home safe? But now shes settled and she feels she trusts her housemates more, im more comfortable with it now.

WellWoman · 13/10/2020 07:55

@BCBG, @sammyjoanne, @Letusprey and other Lancaster mums. If any of you do go up and have an over nightstay I can recommend the Tollhouse Inn in town. We have stayed there twice now, once for open day well over a year ago, and once the night before we dropped DS into his college recently. Very comfortable, and lovely food.

Your DD has done so well BCBG. I loved seeing the Lonsdale lion out to welcome freshers when we arrived, I think it's the culture at Lancaster that is keeping them happy in the face of adversity.

sammyjoanne · 13/10/2020 12:54

Change of plan, Shes now self isolating. one of the floors above her in the townhouse (shes on first floor of bedrooms) has got no taste so got a test today come through. So will wait to hear what results are.

specialted · 13/10/2020 13:13

@sammyjoanne hope dd is ok.

sammyjoanne · 13/10/2020 13:36

She seems well thanks for asking @specialted
Will know soon enough if its just freshers or covid. Shes got plenty of supplies and they have put in a shopping order for fresh stuff and they plan to use angels or dominos a couple of times. she did a washing last wednesday, but will use the laundry service if she runs low :)

specialted · 13/10/2020 13:50

Well done to her for being so organised!

MillicentMartha · 13/10/2020 14:18

@ThrawnCow, he should only have to isolate for 10 days if positive, but the rest of the household for 14. He can go and do their shopping for them at that point!

sammyjoanne · 13/10/2020 14:23

@specialted ill tell her that :) her flat mates has also stocked up too, and they have a group chat so the one thats being tested can message when they plan to use the kitchen, so they avoiding the others in the group. They have been opening the patio doors at the back and putting a couple of chairs out so they can get some air. No -one can go past them as it backs onto a piece of grass and patio which has turned into a swamp . Picture is from her video she did lol.

ThrawnCow · 13/10/2020 14:51

Bristol are insisting on 14 days Millicent.

MillicentMartha · 13/10/2020 15:31

Ah well, Thrawn, better go by that, then. DS is finally free today, well, as free as they get in Manchester.

OP posts:
HuaShan · 13/10/2020 15:54

Millicent good news, that 14 days seems to have passed quite quickly. Not that there is much fun in Manchester at the moment I guess Sad.
DS finally went last week so I'm in the throes of waiting to see if we can get to his birthday in 10 days time for a quick meet up or if he will be locked down before then. The rules for his household seem very strict - no mixing at all, even within the household. We have had the laundry conversation (should be done by today) and he has plenty of food so I'm sure he will be fine. They will all grow up fast in the current situation.

Monkey2001 · 13/10/2020 16:03

@HuaShan - not allowed to mix with household?! Surely that is not practical? I thought St Andrews was the strictest place, but even there you can mix with your household bubble.

They will all really appreciate being home for Christmas!

specialted · 13/10/2020 16:18

Ds just text to say he has to self isolate too as flat mate has vague symptoms . But can't get a test at the moment apparently. This could go on for weeks if tests aren't available.

HuaShan · 13/10/2020 16:33

Monkey2001 yes it seems very strict Sad. They only have a tiny galley kitchen anyway and not much shared social space (just enough for a table). At first I thought he had misinterpreted but he emailed me the Covid policy.
specialted hope your ds flat mate can get a test that (hopefully) proves negative. But yes, I can see this being a very trying term!

BCBG · 13/10/2020 16:59

@WellWoman another Tollhouse fan here Smile We found it in January at Open Day and I was very happy as I'm coeliac and they were really good as regards menu choices and food preparation so we went back when we dropped DD off. I also felt very safe there which hasn't been the case with everywhere I've been lately!

sammyjoanne · 13/10/2020 17:03

@specialted oh no not good news. Hopefully even if its positive the isolation period means they can still get out for halloween week. Just a waiting game now. Ive said to her to try and get inventive. On line zumba, making cakes, that kind of thing when the cabin fever kicks in. At least the patio doors open so they get some air and sit by the side of that :)

specialted · 13/10/2020 17:10

He sent an urgent request for pizza! For the whole flat. !!!!Shock

sammyjoanne · 13/10/2020 20:19

@specialted wow pizza overload lol. At least they have sultans, pizzetta and angels that deliver :)

WellWoman · 13/10/2020 22:23

DS thinks the Sultan's guy is awesome. Apparently he often delivers himself, using his white Mercedes and passing the kebab through the window to the slavering student who ordered it, a bit like a Hollywood style drug lord. Seems like his busines has been booming. Every cloud and all that.....

MillicentMartha · 13/10/2020 23:30

@HuaShan, have I misunderstood, they can’t mix as a household even without anyone having symptoms or a positive test? That seems draconian and rather excessive, especially in an level 1 area. DS was allowed to mix with his flat of 8 freely until one got symptoms and tested positive, then those with symptoms had to avoid those without in the flat as much as possible and that’s in a level 2 area.

OP posts:
sammyjoanne · 13/10/2020 23:39

@WellWoman lol got to love a sultans. Ive had a couple myself and their chips are really nice.
DD ws entertained today. her PHYS101 lecture ended up from what was Newtons law ended up being a discussion on space and multiverse theories (many universes being aorund than just our own) . Then one lecturer got out the ukulele and started entertaing the students in their rooms.
Flatmates birthday on friday. They plan to turn their 3 floors and landings into themed bars and do a 'pub crawl' (obviously not with the poor gal whos been tested bless her, she will be joining in by the rest taking a laptop with them, and she stays in her room zooming) but they making the best of a bad situation. Then order pizza for afterwards and make sure everyone gets some too.
