@tinkywinkyshandbag Stephenson College. I really don't understand why every college and uni is doing something different? I know they only have govt guidelines to work from but you'd have thought they might actually talk to each other about the best ways to protect students whilst ensuring their early days were as fulfilling as possible. A friend did point out that many halls of res are contracted out to private companies, who then put their own regulations in place and the uni is almost powerless to intervene. That might explain some of the extremes, like sniffer dogs, that I have read about...
I do hope that the way individual unis have treated this year's freshers will have an impact on their applications for next year.

Dd's test was positive Shock

SeasonFinale · 10/10/2020 12:14

TerfTerfTerf - my son's BF is in Stephenson too. I wonder if they have met especially as they don't live a million miles from each other back home too!

MillicentMartha · 10/10/2020 12:31

Oh no, @LIZS! I hope she has it mildly.

Thanks. Anyone know how far before symptoms you go back for t and t in Scotland?

Tickledtrout · 10/10/2020 13:21

www.nhsinform.scot/illnesses-and-conditions/infections-and-poisoning/coronavirus-covid-19/test-and-protect/coronavirus-covid-19-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-infection

@LIZS same NHS advice as in England; 10 days after onset of symptoms or 14 days for asymptomatic household members

LIZS · 10/10/2020 13:43

She was thinking more of those she may have been in contact with before any symptoms. "recently" seems ambiguous but she went with 48 hours. Next to noone as she hasn't really been outside the complex except to Sainsburys and most of her friends were already isolating.

Tickledtrout · 10/10/2020 14:06

Ah right. Two days before symptoms and within two metres, for 15 minutes or more.

sammyjoanne · 10/10/2020 14:18

@LIZS oh no sorry to hear that. Hope your DD has it mildly Flowers how is she feeling at the moment? still got sore throat and sniffles?

LIZS · 10/10/2020 14:25

@sammyjoanne yes still more cold symptoms with sore throat. She seems ok in herself otherwise.

Just come off the weekly face time session with DD. Shes feeling fine, and her sinus has got better after some sinutabs. Her flatmates are still fine, although some of Grizedale college are isolating now she says. One house a couple of doors down from her is. The Tab online student magazine said that around 100 people at Lancaster uni have tested positive, and 1000 are currently self isolating. That's like equivalent of Grizedale and Furness combined. Shes had a nice week of lectures, labs, seminars and workshops. Her next lab is online this time on Monday, but week after is back in person again.

sammyjoanne · 10/10/2020 14:38

@LIZS that's good its just mild :) hope she gets better soon

PearlyPinkNails · 10/10/2020 18:21

Apparently Lancaster are paying for a take away for all students isolating. Second hand news from WIWIKAU but very good if correct.

MillicentMartha · 10/10/2020 19:32

Just off a video call with DS here as well. It seems more of his household had positive tests. The first lad is 10 days down now and has been let out. DS hasn’t had any symptoms so may not have had it. He gets out of isolation on Tuesday, or after Tuesday? It was hard to hear him as the lad next door was playing his electric guitar! Shock Badly! I think I might have to get DS to suggest headphones.

The vice chancellor of Loughborough bought ds a takeaway tonight.

He bought an extra spicy one as he has no taste or smell 🤪🤪

LIZS · 10/10/2020 21:04

Dd is finding track and trace are going back well into last week, so 10+ days. Is that a numbers exercise as she would not have been contagious then . Her positive housemate had likewise.

Uni2020 · 11/10/2020 09:22

@LIZS I hope your dd recovers quickly! It seems that the majority of students in halls have now tested positive but thankfully most have mild or no symptoms. My dd's wing is still in self isolation until Wednesday, and everyone on her wing are hoping for no more positive tests thereafter! Annoyingly more than half went home to isolate, it would probably be best if they all stayed together and all hot it at the same time.

Uni2020 · 11/10/2020 09:22

Sorry, got it at the same time (not hot) Blush

LIZS · 11/10/2020 09:29

@uni2020 what is your dd making of the food supplied. Dd is stockpiling apples. Yesterday she got a bean based dish while others got beef bourginon, no idea why!

Uni2020 · 11/10/2020 11:40

My dd also appears to get several apples a day! The food otherwise isn't great but ok. She's looking forward to being able to go to the shops again.

sammyjoanne · 11/10/2020 13:13

@specialted DD messaged this morning. Sent us a video she made of her first 2 weeks. She is now known as the person who always eats potato waffles, as she loves them lol. She woke up in the middle of the night last night due to a enormous speaker playing music in the middle of Grizedale square where a few students were chanting and having a dance. She said it was that loud, the whole college could hear it. Then she heard someone pull the plug so no more music and then a telling off from someone. Sounds like some students are determined to have a good time before more restrictions kick in. Still against regulations anyway, but obviously wanting to have one last party before Boris gives his orders. So give it a few days and more will be on isolation no doubt. Hmm

Eve · 11/10/2020 13:42

@Collision I did read that Loughborough VC bought takeaway for all isolating halls students and senior team are visiting them all regularly.

They do seem to be making a big effort.

specialted · 11/10/2020 20:23

@sammyjoanne eeek not heard any of that info from ds. He's not very forthcoming with info tbh. Think he does all his socialising within his flat. He's not mentioned Covid yet but he did do some laundry which is a huge bonus!
