St Andrews are putting up a marquee too, and I think Bath have one. Hopefully the universities will be helping to oil the wheels of some sort of social life!.

sammyjoanne · 04/10/2020 00:19

@MrsMcMuffins @GaribaldiGirl @geogteach @LIZS @ShaunaTheSheep how are you DC getting on?

Garibaldi girl does your DS feel better now they are at home? And Lizs has your DS settled in? remember saying he was placed with 5 girls.
Mrs Mcmuffins and Shauna is your DD/DS getting on ok with isolation ok, and Geogteach, how is your DS, ? hope he had mild symptoms.

LIZS · 04/10/2020 08:10

@sammyjoanne I have dd in catered so wonder if mistaken id! She is getting on ok although her friends in another household are now isolating thanks to a neighbour testing + after her mixed household partying Hmm. She says there is a marquee onsite but it is locked. Commin rooms are closed.

sammyjoanne · 04/10/2020 10:04

@LIZS lol sorry it was . Ive just looked back and, I saw your name at the top of miljea's reply and thought it was your DS. Is your DD ok? Hope her friends do not catch it and come out of the isolation ok. That's a shame common room is closed, but after seeing the piece on the news about Coventry uni students having a party at Arundel house, its easy to see why they want to keep common rooms closed. Hard work starts soon, so hopefully things will start to calm down covid wise and less mixing household at parties.
DD says one household at one of the colleges at Lancaster has been fine £10k for breech of rules. They really must of protested and refused/ or repeat offences to get that kind of fine.

geogteach · 04/10/2020 10:06

Sammyjoanne Ds is fine thanks - in fact in lots of ways he has got it 'over and done with'. His isolation ends tomorrow (the advantage of a positive test is it is shorter). He had a food delivery on Thursday and has been getting on with online lectures and seminars. He is looking forward to being able to get outside though and hopefully find some people who are on his course.

sammyjoanne · 04/10/2020 10:21

@geogteach I am pleased that its coming to the end, and glad isolation is ending really soon :)

ShaunaTheSheep · 04/10/2020 12:59

@sammyjoanne - he’s fine, thank you for asking. No-one else has tested positive, although some have freshers flu, so fingers crossed they will be ‘free’ after 14 days.

GaribaldiGirl · 04/10/2020 14:59

@sammyjoanne - thanks for asking - my DD is happy doing the course from home. There seems to be loads of work! She’s also still doing a few of the clubs which are now online. Going back up to Edinburgh this week to empty her room as only have to pay until key handed back. At the moment she says she’ll go back when the restrictions lift but not sure she’ll go back to Pollock after that awful fortnight, which is a shame. We might try and get her in a self catered flat next term.

LIZS · 04/10/2020 15:09

@GaribaldiGirl one of dd's friends has already returned to Singapore to study remotely thinking it safer and more settled, even though she will be quarantined for two weeks on arrival. Just as well as that floor is currently locked down.

sammyjoanne · 04/10/2020 15:52

@GaribaldiGirl good idea to try for next term. Hopefully she will make friends with the clubs shes in, and if restrictions lift, meet up with them for a drink or something :)

pasanda · 04/10/2020 17:29

Just had my first chat with ds at Loughborough.
He seems ok. 4 lads in his flat, along with 3 girls and then they're paired with another flat - which has 7 more lads! (Poor girls Grin)
I think he's been burning the candle a bit too much tbh. Feels run down and actually stayed in last night as he felt a bit ill. First night he won 'shit shirt' competition (thanks mnetters for the hint to take fancy dress!) but the prize was 2 bottles of vodka! No idea who provided them. His flat is in the centre of his halls, right between the games room and common room so very social (shame about Covid tho Sad). Very much up his street tho as he is a bit of a party animal!
He says he feels like he's been on holiday for a week but is also looking forward to starting his course tmrw.
Oh and he's nearly finished the bag of frozen veg he took so at least he's getting some vitamins Grin

Collision - so sorry to hear yr ds is so upset. I really hope it settles down for him soon. Hopefully he'll meet some likeminded people with the climbing 🤞

KingscoteStaff · 04/10/2020 19:23

That’s a good round up pasanda!

sammyjoanne · 04/10/2020 19:53

@pasanda sounds like a good week :) Daughter was same predicament. Friday she chilled out catching up on corrie. She had been out quite lot so friday she wanted to stay in. She did go a place called kanteena last night with 5 out of the 11 in her flat. Has not messaged me today, but i've sent her a message wishing her well on lectures and labs tomorrow

BCBG · 04/10/2020 21:12

DD out with flat in Lancaster for last night before lectures Hmm meanwhile my niece has just tested positive for Covid (Exeter, self catered halls). Actually I'm very impressed with her because after a week of. It going out because she felt 'tired' after her first week, she sprayed perfume on yesterday before going out - sniffed her wrist and realised she couldn't smell it! So she opened a coffee jar and when she realised she couldn't smell that either she texted her friends to say she wasn't coming out. I think that's pretty smart actually as she has otherwise asymptomatic apart from feeling tired.

MillicentMartha · 04/10/2020 21:25

DS’s flat mate who’s tested positive, his only symptom was loss of sense of taste and smell. They’re 4 days in to their isolation now but courses start tomorrow, so hopefully they’ll be kept busy. 9am online lecture for DS!

sammyjoanne · 04/10/2020 22:09

@BCBG very smart of your niece that she did that.
And glad your daughter has gone out with flatmates. Sounds like shes settling in well :)

Collision · 05/10/2020 08:04

Ds was tested for Covid-19 yesterday.

He has a cough.

He’s now isolating in his room and the girls upstairs have said they will cook for him. He’s quite enjoying the attention I think 😀 and I bought him a KFC delivery last night.

pasanda · 05/10/2020 09:05

Nice girls collision! Sounds like he's happier (despite the cough!)

Monkey2001 · 05/10/2020 16:38

@Collision Smile the silver lining of the covid situation is the series of small kindnesses we hear about.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 05/10/2020 18:36

First day of freedom for DS following the 14 day flat lockdown.
He had a test a few days ago and it came back as a negative the next day which was great.
He was mainly pleased because it means his lockdown wouldn't be extended further, having nearly completed the 14 days.
They set up a testing centre on campus and any of the students could request a test which I was impressed about and it made, a difference to DS who decided to get tested even though he's remained symptomless throughout.
Which is all good. Him staying well is a big relief. Other flatmates also coming through it all well.
But still feel we don't have all the answers because of this weird possibility that you can have it asymptomaticly.
Anyway, he's looking forward to meeting with his music teacher and tutor in person this week, and maybe the start of some small ensemble opportunities, following the first two lessons being online in previous lockdown weeks.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 05/10/2020 18:38

There also planning on going out for pizza tonight - making the most of renewed freedoms.

KingscoteStaff · 05/10/2020 19:03

That’s great news Juggling (and probably good news for the flat below him - even with a mute!).

sammyjoanne · 05/10/2020 19:55

@BCBG @specialted @choirmumoftwo @LetUsPrey

Spoke with daughter today on imessage. Lectures been great and she survived labs and got readings out of her experiment so shes happy.
Enjoying night in and watching mamma mia on projector . All wearing pjs and having popcorn. Was chatting about covid, and sorry to report but she says there is covid on campus .
DD has been getting extra bits in from Sainsburys and Spar and storing in her room just in case. Thought id let you know so your DC can be prepared.

specialted · 05/10/2020 20:01

Thanks for update @sammyjoanne ! Don't think DS has done any shopping since he's arrived so Am not too optimistic he'll have any food stocks! He's been having a lot of takeaways so I may have to mention it when I next speak to him

LetUsPrey · 05/10/2020 20:04

Thanks sammyjoanne. Have had no reply from DS1 as to how his first lecture(s) went. I could throw in a false football transfer rumour which would no doubt prompt a response

I’ll let him know the update re Covid and mention to take notice if his sense of smell and/or taste goes as very helpfully mentioned up thread.

It’s his birthday very soon and we’d hoped we might be allowed to see him off campus but this is looking increasingly unlikely.

🤞🏻 for all those with students affected by lockdown and isolation.
