Well, it’s been a crazy few days.

Old thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/higher_education/3962422-University-2020-6-The-one-with-the-results-at-the-end?watched=1&msgid=99082625#99082625

Good luck everyone tomorrow. Hope you have a good night's sleep and everyone gets what they need to get to where they want.

DD's gearing up for an early start on supporting from TSR website and remembering how nervous she was last year.

Sssloou · 12/08/2020 20:12

Finally just got an email from school (19:50) outlining results collection process tomorrow morning - with the ominous line “we understand that this is a difficult year for students but we will be on hand to offer advice” ,,,,,

specialted · 12/08/2020 20:15

We got one just now saying there will be lots of mentors to talk to and can everyone make sure they have clearing numbers etc . Oh Lordy.

MillicentMartha · 12/08/2020 20:17

@wineandsunshine

Could someone help please? UCAS isn't showing a course through clearing that DS wants - but it is via the university website. Is there a reason for this?
It might be that they haven’t updated UCAS yet? Was it showing on UCAS for clearing before? Clearing gets updated often.

wineandsunshine · 12/08/2020 20:26

Thanks @MillicentMartha

I'm really not sure if it was showing on UCAS - DS has had an absolute nightmare this evening.

He didn't confirm his conditional place for a different course by the deadline date and now it's been removed from his tracking page and isn't available on clearing.

So he's spent the past two hours looking at different courses hence my question re the difference on the website. I think we are going to have to wait until the morning now Sad

mumonthehill · 12/08/2020 21:00

In wales so delighted ds will get no lower than his AS results last year. It has taken the worry away slightly! Good luck all!!

stoneysongs · 12/08/2020 21:04

Delurking to wish everyone well tomorrow - everything crossed for your DC. I have a DS awaiting GCSE results next week and have often thought how lucky he is that it's "just" GCSEs. I hope everything comes good.

AChickenCalledDaal · 12/08/2020 21:05

Oh dear wineandsunshine - what a nightmare for him. Calling the university in the morning sounds like a good plan.

LIZS · 12/08/2020 21:12

Wishing all mnetters and dc luck for tomorrow. Dd was at this point last year and ended up taking a year out. However it goes there are always options.

idsisatwat · 12/08/2020 21:13

@Peaseblossom22

Terrifying interview with a sixth form Head on R4 , I hope her students weren’t listening because they are going to have a sleepless night🙁. She said 47% have been downgraded from CAG most at the top end , so A* down to a B 😮
God, this is terrifying! And seems completely unfair! Am hoping DD gets some sleep. Am not sure I will!
Divoc2020 · 12/08/2020 21:18

The thing to remember about media stories is that they are the outliers, the unusual and the shocking.
A headteacher saying "yes, we found that 95% of the given grades matched our CAGs" wouldn't be newsworthy!

idsisatwat · 12/08/2020 21:19

@Divoc2020 that’s true. I just seem to have lost all sense of perspective with this at the moment!

AChickenCalledDaal · 12/08/2020 21:27

I'm really shocked at that head teacher being so explicit about the grades. It's a big college, so she wouldn't be identifying anyone, but still seems like a breach of confidence and not helpful to any students that were listening.

MillicentMartha · 12/08/2020 21:34

Thanks LIZS. Nice being on a thread with you again. Smile

DD just checking clearing at her firm - her offer was AAB - now I’m clearing at BBB.

Same course lower uni which offered ABB (which she didn’t take) is down to BCC.

I am relieved that even if her results tumble she will get somewhere.

Going through this process for the third time though makes me think that those clearing grades are exceptionally low which might mean moderation is bad - so trying to get into the headspace of lets just celebrate getting in somewhere tomorrow - the grades are irrelevant.

Sssloou · 12/08/2020 21:44

That’s also been the narrative of the Government - asking the unis to be flexible

MillicentMartha · 12/08/2020 21:48

Both DS’s firm and insurance are in clearing, but at their standard offer. Hoping that means they may allow a slipped grade from their applicants. Good luck tomorrow Sssloou and everyone else, of course.

Sorry, I don’t know how to link this article in The Guardian, but it makes for horrific reading 😱😱. I feel sick

University 2020 :7: Results tombola, roll up, roll up, pick a prize!
specialted · 12/08/2020 22:06

Can't deal with any more news etc tonight, am retiring from internet until tomorrow. Good luck everyone , see you on the other side .

JufusMum · 12/08/2020 22:09

Good luck all and thanks for the new thread. I just can’t handle any more news and anticipation. DD can’t even remember what her mock results were anyway !

Greyhair59 · 12/08/2020 22:11

Good luck to everyone. Do read the BBC's on line article about how to collect results safely - and please make sure your kids reject the advice for the shit it is! Have never read anything so ridiculous in my life.

Flyonawalk · 12/08/2020 22:14

Cafeconleche I read this too. Please don’t worry. Remember that the Guardian’s stance is anti-government, and goodness knows we need a questioning voice. But it means that they will look for the most extreme and depressing news when reporting on this issue.

I have a child waiting for results tomorrow and am anxious too. It is a tough time but that article doesn’t seem objective to me. Try not to worry.

Alittlewornout · 12/08/2020 22:16

Just popped over from Scotsnet to wish you and your DC the very best for tomorrow. I dearly hope they all get the grades they need.
Hoping all the parents manage some sleep tonight ready to galvanise into action if required in the morning.

mimbleandlittlemy · 12/08/2020 22:18

Chris Mason has just summed it up nicely on the BBC News: “it’s a mess”. Thanks, Chris...
