Well, it’s been a crazy few days.

falseperceptions yes - we asked this morning and were told CAG and school rankings. Don't believe that there is any data issue to worry about!

FalsePerceptions · 13/08/2020 20:23

Thanks so much for your responses @hoghgyni, @MillicantMartha, @railingsohno @Myvisionscomefromsoup and @SnapSnapDragon.

Interesting to hear there's such a wide variation on how CAG release is being done. She's signed a form for release and had done so by about 9.30am today so it's really frustrating to have got to the end of the day with nothing released, especially after being told (eventually) that they hoped to do it by the end of the day. I just can't imagine she's very far down the list having got her request in relatively early today!

It will make a big difference to her decision-making process re next steps, and just to her peace of mind, to know what teachers actually thought she would get. I guess the squeaky wheel gets the oil so we'll have to keep on squeaking! Thank you all.

FalsePerceptions · 13/08/2020 20:25

Thanks to you too @BCBG! Wish she was at your DC's school!

Snozzlemaid · 13/08/2020 20:26

FalsePerceptions My DD's college had an online form to complete if you wanted to query any results, which she completed this morning asking to see her CAGs. She had an email just after 5pm with hers.

Bouledeneige · 13/08/2020 20:38

Out of interest - to those whose kids have got their university places (and sympathies to those who are still trying to resolve their situation), but how have your kids celebrated? My DS got his place.

I had booked a nice local restaurant in case we could go out to celebrate. He didn't fancy that so we went to Maccie D's drive-in! Woo. I asked him if he could go out to celebrate with friends (most have got what they wanted even if their grades weren't quite as expected). He said a group of friends were meeting up but he just didn't fancy it. He just wanted to relax - so he's gaming this evening.

This evening his confirmation of accommodation came through - and he said no he didn't want to look at it this evening. He has 3 days to confirm. It looks like he's got what he wanted. His sister (at Manchester) told him it would be good to get it sorted so he could join FB groups for his new housemates. No response.

I'm assuming its a bit of nerves and he just wants to enjoy an evening with no stress - obviously its a burden of anxiety lifted. But it just seems funny to me - admittedly an extrovert which he is not (though he has a good social life and a lot of friends). When I was 18 (200 hundred years ago) I got my results and had no one to celebrate with because most of my friends crashed and burned. I ended up going round to my (boring) sister's house.

thesunwillout · 13/08/2020 20:43

DD is just relaxing this evening. Exhausted.
We spent a few quid in local town on make up and stuff on the way home from longish drive from college.
Popped to Tesco. DD bought some gin stuff.
Live quite rural so enough excitement for one day.

sandybayley · 13/08/2020 20:46

@SnapSnapDragon - your post about your Mum made me cry. She would have been so proud.

It made me think of my grandparents, both of whom left school at 14. They loved their grandchildren fiercely and were delighted when I became the first in the family to go to university. They would have been blown away to know their Great Grandson is going to Oxford (DS1's middle name is my Grandad's).

I think they will be smiling down on us tonight.

sandybayley · 13/08/2020 20:49

@Bouledeneige - we've had a fancy lunch, cake and champagne with the DGPs and are now chilling at home. DS1 is exhausted (I think he's been playing too much cricket) and is planning his big night out tomorrow.

DuckyMcDuck · 13/08/2020 20:51

@Bouledensige. DS and friends have gone out tonight, those that have got uni places and those that haven't. Initially, he wasn't keen, but he said that they'd all decided that they'd started their 6th form journey together and wanted to finish it together, I am so proud of them all.

MillicentMartha · 13/08/2020 20:52

Bouldeneige we went out for a meal, DS hasn’t seen anyone apart from at school. He’s happy to relax after a stressful few days.

@falseperceptions - our school issued CAGs alongside actual results in an email this morning.Even helpfully laid them out side-by-side in a table! The exam grades formal sheet was also attached.

Mocks were already available via our Parent Portal, but they said to email if anyone couldn't access them.

@Bouledeneige We took DS out for lunch at a pub to celebrate. Then at about 4.30pm he went into our local (small) town to meet 5 of his friends for more food and then the pub (again!). Just had a WhatsApp from him and there are about 20 of them (different groups from his 6th form) all in one pub garden. Shock

Baileyscoffeeandcampfires · 13/08/2020 21:05

Congratulations / commiserations to all as appropriate

We think ds very large sixth form college (3900 on role & 30 % A*A in 2019) has been utterly screwed by the algorithm

Ds got BCC with a CAG of ABC. His 3 subjects had large cohorts and his missed out on the BBC need for his only offer (didn’t even get interviewed at the other 4 uni he applied to as very limited intakes due to needing placements on course.)

Complete rollercoaster this morning as he saw grades via college website (with CAG next to them ) and then couldn’t get into track . Found out he had been given his place via a congratulations text from uni shortly followed by en email asking for a card on file for the £6500 halls fee - that’s when we knew it was real Shock

College has given no info re appeals to mocks which match his CAG apart from an email yesterday saying that they wouldn’t be supplying evidence of mocks grades . Hoping that college will email in next few days to say they are going to mass appeal maths and science subjects as every single one of his mates have been knocked down at least one grade in those subjects too

So pleased that he’s into uni but think he has been unfairly downgraded. Neither myself or Dh went to uni so it’s all one hell of a learning curve. Still got dd’s gcse results to go through next week ....

Hoghgyni · 13/08/2020 21:22

Sandy and SnapSnapDragon I agree. We called my dad this morning. He failed his 11+ in the post war years and left his village school with no formal qualifications. His two other GC have serious SN and will never live independently. He is bursting with pride today and has told DD that he hopes so much that my mum & he will both live long enough to see her graduate.

sandybayley · 13/08/2020 21:29

@Hoghgyni - my PIL were pressing DS1 this afternoon about when they could visit him for lunch! In all fairness DMIL is an alumni so has a clear interest in the university and grew up near to where he'll be.

SnapSnapDragon · 13/08/2020 21:33

Lovely grandparent stories. How lucky are those DCs who have grandparents still with them and able to take pride in them.
I remember my own grandparents coming to visit me at university. I was keeping a lookout from my window and to my horror I saw two stooped figures marching straight across the grass. Still makes me laugh thinking about it.

suze28 · 13/08/2020 21:42

What a day!
DD has an unconditional for her first choice so all safe on the uni front which is obviously very positive. Her grades were lower than her mock grades and her CAGs so school will appeal which was confirmed via email this morning.
She's out tonight with most of her year group. Next Thursday for DD2's GCSE results now looming.

Railingsohno · 13/08/2020 21:44

So many highs and lows in this thread. I do feel so much for this year group. 💗 My son is out tonight with a group of friends- some celebrating, some commiserating.

specialted · 13/08/2020 21:48

Ds was planning on a pub trip with friends but most have bailed out as quite a few didn't get the results they needed. He's also not feeling very well, maybe he's been more anxious about results day than he thinks. Seems a bit of an anti climax tbh.

Snozzlemaid · 13/08/2020 21:52

My dd went and got kfc takeaway for lunch and had gone out with friends this evening.
But she's exhausted and has just asked us to collect her.
She's away for the weekend so not sure when we will actually get to celebrate properly with her.

JufusMum · 13/08/2020 22:05

DD got BBB and her CAG was ABC. She was gutted to miss her A in Sociology as she has a book of timed assessments full of A/A*. But she had an unconditional from Uni of South Wales so it’s all ok. She’s the first member of our family to go to university.
She was a little disappointed this morning but many of her friends including her best friend (CAG A A A*, actual results ABC) have fared a lot worse so she feels like she is one of the lucky ones. She picked up her car today having passed her test last week and is doing her first solo drive tonight (to work). None of her friends felt like celebrating so we went for a Starbucks and she bought some mats for her car and made us a nice dinner (she’s the chef in our house). Accommodation for uni gets sorted tomorrow.
Feeling for the many many poor kids who didn’t get the results they deserved. This is an utter shitshow. As a previous exam invigilator I know how important these grades are to our DC.

Hoghgyni · 13/08/2020 22:55

Congrats on the car Jufus. She's going to have a great career ahead of her.

Hoghgyni · 13/08/2020 22:57

Snozzle well done to DD too. She will have a whale of a time at her uni.

Snozzlemaid · 13/08/2020 23:02

Thank you.
Dd is the first in our family to go to university so this whole process is very new to us.
She does feel very lucky to have come out of this with what she wanted.

ShaunaTheSheep · 13/08/2020 23:07

DS is out tonight with school friends.

We're planning a family celebration after DD gets her GCSE results next week.

HuaShan · 13/08/2020 23:09

Yes, a very mixed day it seems. I really feel for those of you trying to get CAG from schools/colleges which seem frankly obstructive and I'm shocked at your DS college @Baileyscoffeandcampfire that seems an poor attitude to not supply mock grades. But glad your DS had his place anyway. DS school gave out a sheet with mocks and CAG and had advice and paperwork for appeals all results this morning.
DS went to the pub with friends at 10 amBlush came home for a quick lunch then our again. Celebrations are quite low key despite Guinness at 10. I think the whole process has been exhausting all toynd
