Well done @Malbecfan, it sounds as if you've done a great job gathering up your family around you. Great that you have DF close to hand as well.

In awe, @malbecfan!

Ginfordinner · 15/03/2020 21:00

I'm not surprised you are tired after all that driving. You can relax now.

DD not due to finish for a couple of weeks, and the university is carrying on as normal - and so are the students. DD went out clubbing last night. She wasn't enjoying the club they went to as they were playing (c)rap "music", and ended up in the gay bar next door where they sang along to eurovision and drag race songs Grin

Which university is this and does it offer History of Art? It sounds just up DS2's streetSmile

Jano69 · 15/03/2020 21:19

@Malbecfan Well done you! Respect.

Benjispruce · 15/03/2020 21:38

Sounds idyllic @Malbecfan. My 80year old DF has called me to say not to visit him. He’s paranoid about my school germs!

Ginfordinner · 15/03/2020 21:40

Newcastle, and history of art isn't offered there.

justasking111 · 15/03/2020 21:45

Important updates from Bangor University. I know a spanish lecturer tested positive as well.

HoldMyLobster · 15/03/2020 22:09

given the option Id happily help her move her things out and not pay if there is to be no further teaching this year. DD is self catered but Surely they'd be hard pushed to charge you for a meal plan

I'd love to, but she's 1700 miles away. Sometimes I wish she'd at least stayed in New England. Ho hum...

blametheparents · 15/03/2020 22:14

@Alicatz66 - DS was in the gym yesterday and said it was great because there was a choice of squat rack! Your DS will be happy too if the gym is quieter!

Alicatz66 · 16/03/2020 08:20

@blametheparents .. Oh .. am empty gym ! DS is always saying how crowded it is !

simbobs · 16/03/2020 08:58

My DD (3rd Yr) is being sent home from her placement in France due to imminent lock down. Devastating. No idea how uni will manage assessment of the year abroad.

bigTillyMint · 16/03/2020 11:31

Oh no @simbobs

simbobs · 16/03/2020 12:03

She has only been gone a week! Things have moved so quickly in that time that we couldn't have forseen this before she went. She still has assessed essays to write from her German part but I think she would be better off going back to her uni for this. I assume the foreign students may have left and vacated accommodation. She really needs to contact them for advice.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 16/03/2020 14:01

Oh no, @simbobs, what a total nightmare for her.

This is going to mess up people's studies in all sorts of ways. Almost thinking that most may have to repeat the year (but with subsidy)?

Found this useful post on Linked In that helps explain more coherently than government what I think they are trying to achieve.

There’s rumours Newcastle is ‘online only’ from tomorrow.

justasking111 · 16/03/2020 15:00

I suspect train services are going to be cut now. Passengers are thinning out somewhat. DS has to change at Chester which may cut services into Wales. Not too bothered if uni. say they shut down we will go in car and collect everything for him. What will be annoying is if they cancel uni. while he is at home over Easter.

Piggywaspushed · 16/03/2020 15:21

DS said he does not want to come home so remains in Lincoln...he is very gung ho. In some ways he is safer there away from DH.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 16/03/2020 15:31

@Piggywaspushed he's probably wise particularly if your DH is at risk.

ZandathePanda · 16/03/2020 15:31

Newcastle true. Now it’s happened Dd a bit upset as she’s home and won’t have chance to say goodbye to flatmates.

justasking111 · 16/03/2020 15:33

Zanda can your daughter not go back and just work online?

simbobs · 16/03/2020 15:45

I'm waiting for DS to tell me that lectures are online from next week and that he wants to come back. We have gone from an empty nest back to a full one in a rather unexpected time frame. Oh well, the dog will be delighted.

Ginfordinner · 16/03/2020 15:46

Just had DD on the phone. I'm picking her up on Thursday
