Hello.

How many of us are waiting for their DC to hear back from Durham? My DS applied back in October last year and is getting very down now he knows that others who have received offers are being informed that they will be told soon re college allocations.

I am usually a 'no news is good news' type of person but even I am finding it hard to be upbeat as I too am fed up Confused

I wish they would just let him me know soon if he is going to get an offer or a rejection and then he can get on with his life and his A Level revision without this hanging over him.

Anyone else still waiting to hear from Durham ? DS is and school are encouraging them to firm up on offers now so he’s not sure what to do .

Bristol is not shut over Easter and term starts on 20 April. If you let people sit in the library all day every day as plenty are doing given the strikes then allowing them an extra 3 hours for an exam is hardly adding to risk of catching it.
There is something amiss with Bristol University if it is still making people believe that term time will start as normal in April. It also appears to be slack with its restricted access process.

Peaseblossom22 · 20/03/2020 07:20

Ds also waiting as are most of the people applying to Durham in his year. I am so angry with them

Xenia · 20/03/2020 07:27

H, I think it might be going a bit far to say the twins' subjects. One is BSc and one is a BA.

Bristol is doing well in saying the university opens on 20 April. That does not mean there will necessarily be lectures but students live there. Some have no other homes to go to. One of my sons may well be staying up all holiday. It is not like a school or boarding school when you can just sent people home.

however check websites on a regular basis. My son saw the website said extensions for dissertations etc were being given. He screen shotted that. he asked for extra time quoting that. By the time his lecturer considered it Bristol's website did not say that but he could produce the screen shot - I think he was given an extra week and that one came home last night by the way - it is his twin who might stay up.

Actually I just checked not and I think it has changed since yesterday

Now says Key information you need to know:

"The University will deliver teaching online from Monday 20 April."

"Summer assessment will be online. If we can’t assess you online, we will make alternative arrangements.
Your School will contact you about plans for your assessments by Monday 30 March."

"If you are staying in halls or in off-campus accommodation in Bristol, please tell us via this online form so that we can provide advice and information.
All study, field or social trips overseas, as well as residential field trips in the UK are cancelled and we are inviting overseas placement students to return early.
The University will remain open while we deliver teaching online - accommodation, many learning facilities and services will remain open."

Mind you not different for one of my twins who even at school his teachers told me he might as well have done the lessons by correspondence course given his lack of speaking in class and he already watches a lot of the lectures on line.

Xenia, don't you ever think that you may be slightly over-invested in all this? It is what it is, and your adult children will cope without you scouring the web on ther behalf.

MarchingFrogs · 20/03/2020 07:51

Xenia, don't you ever think that you may be slightly over-invested in all this?

Probably no more than those whose posts on the university application process leave the casual observer intrigued as to what has prompted a middle aged parent to decide to go to university at this stage in their careerGrin.

Xenia · 20/03/2020 07:59

I am not particularly nor have ever been, with 5 children and working full time, a helicopter parent. I am afraid I find out more from the website than the boys tell me at times and as many parents have been on there checking graduation dates, booking the July hotels it is not that unusual (never mind that their 3 years without loans has cost me personally £150k in after tax income).

However I am sorry that on a thread about Durham I have gone on about Bristol.

errorofjudgement · 20/03/2020 08:23

So DD didn’t get round to sorting ucas yesterday, and has woken up to a History offer from Durham.
I wonder if the A level announcement had prompted students to get and firm their choices freeing up solace’s for more offers?
Good luck to everyone still waiting,
DD now has a difficult choice to make as she loved Exeter

errorofjudgement · 20/03/2020 08:24

Must proof- read!!
S/be freeing up spaces

NotEnoughTime · 20/03/2020 09:35

Congratulations to your daughter error. A tough decision to make. Both fantastic universities by all accounts.

Still waiting here Morgan and Pease

Thank you, I hope you hear today.
And I’m pleased to see they’re still giving out offers, Though I don’t know where they’ll put everyone!

Xenia · 20/03/2020 09:57

Well done on the offer. I would probably choose Durham over Exeter but both are excellent.

NotEnoughTime · 20/03/2020 10:38

Thanks error - so do I!

Durham need to pull their finger out and get those offers out.

errorofjudgement · 20/03/2020 16:22

This has been posted on their website - quite reassuring

Xenia · 20/03/2020 16:32

That is useful. I will be interesting to see if the A level grades awarded under this new 2020 system lead to more or fewer making their university offer grades.

Peaseblossom22 · 20/03/2020 18:38

Offer A*AA , finally , although to be frank who knows what’s going to happen now , but for today it’s good news 😃

errorofjudgement · 20/03/2020 18:49

Congratulations! Good news to end the day

GaribaldiGirl · 20/03/2020 19:08

Nice to hear some good news in these pretty grim times Peaseblossom.

NotEnoughTime · 20/03/2020 19:10

Brilliant news Pease- very well done to your DS

@Peaseblossom22 - that is good news. We need more of that!

ofteninaspin · 20/03/2020 20:12

Great news Pease. Something to celebrate in all this uncertainty.

KingscoteStaff · 20/03/2020 22:22

What a relief Pease - first choice college?

Serin · 20/03/2020 22:34

Peaseblossom22 Phew, what a relief!
