Continuation of www.mumsnet.com/Talk/higher_education/3538808-heading-towards-year-2-exams-uni-2017 as we have reached page 40.

Hard to believe they are all in year 3 now and many will finish university in June 2020.

Another vote for DrCarrieMac here! Well done on such a fabulous achievement. 🍾

Horsemad · 11/06/2020 17:52

Aah, DrCarrieMac, 😃 that's lovely, many congratulations to you!

Horsemad · 11/06/2020 17:53

And well done to your DD SMaCM, how is she feeling now?

SMaCM · 11/06/2020 20:29

Thanks horse. We're just going day by day and her tutors have been fabulous (even her course tutor who's on leave). She is also getting reasonable GP support.

Xenia · 12/06/2020 07:37

Yes, well done DrC.

Thank you all! Your congratulations mean a lot to me you have been such a supportive bunch.
Looking forward to a ‘graduation ‘ thread eventually

I’m delighted your DD is being well supported SmaCM , some tutors and unis are really stepping up

bigTillyMint · 12/06/2020 12:52

@Carriemac, congratulations from me too!

DD submitted her final piece of coursework and we did a FT cheers with her and her housemates last night Smile
No idea when the results come out!

Xenia · 12/06/2020 15:54

I spoke the twin still in Bristol today who still has 6 days to do his last essay/exam to do so knowing him he will finish it near the deadline. he has however made his choice for next year - he will do the GDL in Bristol and share a house with friends doing masters - and will be putting in his application before the end of term although he needs to get his tutor's agreement to be the referee and apparently getting a reply from that person takes weeks and much chasing so I hope he can get that consent to be referred every quickly as he cannot even submit his application until he has it. His twin (who will be doing the same course but in London living at home) did all this last summer/September.

Xenia my twins sound similar in temperament, one is a planner and the other wings it.

RedHelenB · 13/06/2020 14:51

Congratulations @Carriemac, shows its never too late to study!

We went to empty dd1s house last weekend so I've 2 lots of "stuff" in the garage. Just as well we had a good clear out during lockdown! She's done her last exam, just zoom stuff now
Looking like January before they can resume clinical practice and the electives at the start of 5th year have been cancelled as they'll have too much to catch up on.

DS was at home for lockdown, but went back to his flat last week to make the most of the last month where he is.

He’s still not allowed back on site so is spending this last month fishing and walking and doing a little bit of work , it’s very limited what he can do remotely.

He’s been very lucky, he has been paid over this time lots of his course mates have been let go from their placements.

BestIsWest · 14/06/2020 20:48

DS went back to his student house yesterday. He’s going to stay for a couple of weeks and pack up etc.

It’s ridiculous I know but I’m really missing him. Having him home for the last 11 weeks has been lovely (for me, not for him). It’s the longest he’s been home for at least 3 years.

He’s started job hunting but the field he wants to go into has been dreadfully affected so at the moment he’s looking for anything he can get.

There's a bit of a feeling of tying up loose ends for them all. In years to come when friends talk about graduation year they'll be saying, " Oh we graduated in 2020, the year of the C19 pandemic, so it was all very different." A bit like my lads taking bets on how long it will be before Grandma mentions growing up during the war every time they see her. 😂
Well done to your DD, SMaCM. Hope things continue to go smoothly.

goodbyestranger · 15/06/2020 09:28

Glad to hear things seem to be working out for SMaCM DD.

DS has been told his results come out on a specific day in mid July at noon and has been given a re-scheduled graduation date too, for April.

Horsemad · 15/06/2020 12:08

DS says he doesn't know when his results are out - how can he NOT have found out!!

His graduation was scheduled for mid July so I'm guessing results would be known about a fortnight before, so end of this month, hopefully?

goodbyestranger · 15/06/2020 12:13

DS's results are about three weeks later than usual Horsemad - I think they need extra time this year, given the unusual formulae etc.

RedHelenB · 15/06/2020 13:37

Dd1s just found out shes passed 3rd year, she'll get the break down tomorrow.

bigbluebus · 15/06/2020 16:49

DS has been home for 3 weeks now and so far hasn't managed to find a job for tgr Summer. Even the place he's worked for the last 2 summers haven't got any vacancies as they've been inundated with furloughed/self employed workers looking for temp work to tide them over. He's been accepted for his Masters in Sept but needs a job to earn the money to fund it as it is highly likely that DH will be taking a pay cut in the near future. He seems a bit lost now as he hasn't got a purpose. He doesn't seem to know when final results will be announced either - there were 2 x 2 week extensions on submissions of final work because of Covid although all his work has now been marked but some of his friend's work hasn't as they were later submitting. He thinks he's got at least a good 2.1 but hoping he'll scrape into a 1st. Fingers crossed a job turns up in the next couple of weeks.

Horsemad · 15/06/2020 17:19

Well done to your DD @RedHelenB, has she got 2 more years to go?

@bigbluebus, it's hard for students, isn't it? ☹️ Really feel for them this year, along with everyone else impacted by Covid-19 too.

DH heard from DS today & he's coming home next week, then returning to his uni flat just before the end of July to collect his stuff. He did make some noise about viewing halls in case he applies for a Masters, so DH told him to get his finger out & check them out before he comes home, so it doesn't necessitate another trip back to do that...

RedHelenB · 15/06/2020 17:29

Fingers crossed for the best result @bigbluebus and for a job asap.
Two more years for dd1 @horsemad. Have they said what's happening re. graduation for your son yet, as presumably July will be too early still for a normal ceremony?

Horsemad · 15/06/2020 17:43

Postponed a while back and no new date arranged yet RedHelen ☹️
I think it will probably be next year now.

bigbluebus · 15/06/2020 17:53

DS has only been told Graduation ceremony postponed too. A friend suggested we hire a gown and cap from a company that's doing 'Graduation in a box' - £80 iirc - and that we dress up and she will come and take photos on a sunny day somewhere. Cake (with a graduation topper - she makes cake toppers) and champagne would be the order of the day. Have also found a skyline of uni city with personalisation for £20 which I thought I'd order once the official results are through. Hopefully they will get their formal ceremony at some point in the future (although i fear it will be down scaled) but that could be months away or even next year. DS didn't have an easy Uni journey (dropped out of original Uni/course after Yr1 and took a year out before starting again with a completely different Uni/subject) so I feel doing a little something to mark the occasion in some way now would be good.

readsalotgirl63 · 15/06/2020 18:44

Congratulations to all the dc who have reached the end and completed degrees and to Carriemac. It seems amazing that we have all been on this journey for 3 years - it has flown by.

I have lurked on this thread and have enjoyed following everyone's story. Good luck to all as they step out on the next stage of the jurney in these uncertain times - hope everyone continues to do well.

DD has one more year to go ( in Scotland) and then probably a postgrad year - so I'll still be around in this part of MN.

Stay safe everyone !

readsalotgirl63 · 15/06/2020 18:45

oops that should have been journey no jurney - I can spell honest !Blush

Horsemad · 15/06/2020 22:50

@bigbluebus, I've also seen those uni skyline prints and am getting a card for what would have been his graduation day. 🙂
