For those with DC needing a job I recommend keeping an eye on the NHS jobs site. All nhs jobs on one site, except NHS Scotland has its own. Jobs that might be suitable pop up, and they can go quite quickly so it's important to check regularly.
To give an idea of variety - whilst my DD has been spending her gap year working as an HCA in the theatre Dept, a classmate of hers is working as a ward clerk. We have a new porter in our dept, same age, A levels last summer. And I was having a chat with another gap year HCA yesterday who is working in the radiology dept. Another of her friends works as a kitchen porter, delivering meals up to the wards and things. She loves her job and I was impressed with her learning on food safety etc.
Those sorts of jobs are well removed from the grind of being an HCA on the ward, which I would only really recommend for someone with an interest in nursing or med. school.
Also various clerical jobs, HR apprenticeship, IT jobs that would suit pop up.
All these teens are loving having regular, relatively well paid work with paid annual leave etc. and being part of the NHS team.
There's lots of useful skills and training that all new NHS employees get like resuscitation training, manual handling, conflict resolution, information governance, dementia training. My DD really enjoyed most of her mandatory training, and she had been out of school just long enough to rather appreciate being back in a class room.
With all the regular hospitality and shop jobs gone I know lots are feeling at a loose end.
They might find something they enjoy and it'll be really useful life experience.
