Previous thread and hope you don't mind that I set up the next thread @juicy0. Just did it to ensure that we carry on chatting seamlessly Wink

UEA was first choice for both of my DS's too and they had offers and grades for universities up and down the country from York, through Birmingham to Southampton 🤣

icanbewhatiwant · 19/10/2019 19:17

That's good to hear it was a popular choice.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 20/10/2019 09:14

I think it is and always will be a popular choice. DS was much more struck by it than places like Birmingham, York and Exeter. Truth be told he was blindsided by getting an offer from Durham but didn't consider any of the others as his fall-back option because he liked UEA so much.

Do any of you have any recommendations for nice places on the coast to visit with the dog? We are visiting next weekend, will watch DS's match on Saturday and have dinner lined up, just trying to work out where we will go for the day on Sunday. Preferably somewhere with a nice dog friendly pub to grab some lunch in. Thanks.

icanbewhatiwant · 20/10/2019 11:55

@GoldenRuby horsey and winterton are nice quiet beaches and some of the nearest coast to Norwich. Not sure whether the seals will have had pups yet, possibly not yet. You probably can't take dogs there when the pups are born. I would highly recommend a visit there February time when the seals are bigger. You can walk past hundreds of them laying on the beach. Not one for the dog though.
@juicy0 is local too and might have explored more coast than us. We tend to go to southwold, Dunwich and Aldeburgh as we are in Suffolk.

juicy0 · 20/10/2019 12:35

@GoldenRuby there are some great circular walks all along the Norfolk coast and we are spoilt for nice pubs 😊
Blakeney, Sheringham, Wells, Winterton, Holkham, Brancaster and Cromer are all great for dogs and a quick google search will give you lots of pub options. Southwold is 50 minutes away and is lovely with dogs allowed on the beach from 1st October. We also love Dunwich and Walberswick on the suffolk coast.

@icanbewhatiwant @juicy0 thank you both - lots of options, perfect. We have had holidays in Norfolk and Suffolk in the past, but many years ago and pre-dog, so good to get some recommendations. Now I just need the weather to be kind to us!

GoldenRuby · 20/10/2019 20:25

Just had a lovely chat with DS. I think he is quite keen to show us around next weekend, and is going to steer us in the direction of the coastal walk he did as part of his course induction (starting with fish and chips by the pier at Cromer). All good signs that is is settling in and feeling more at home. He said his flat is the place to be in his block (only 4 flats in the block). They are doing a roast again tonight for about 15 people - apparently the group who went shopping bought 5 chickens! I am assuming they are going to have to somehow cook in two flats as there is no way that much food will go in a single oven. Not quite sure how they will manage to eat it either as the kitchen is very full with 8 in. He looked surprisingly perky given that it was apparently a massive 'initiation' hockey social last night - all he would tell me about it was that he had sensibly worn a cheap T shirt as it is now in the bin. I think I am best off not knowing any more....

Itscoldouthere · 20/10/2019 20:36

@GoldenRuby I will look out for others with dogs next Sunday, we are just going up for the day so we stay in Norwich, but we will have the small hairy hound with us.
Hope to take DS for a pub lunch, he’s hoping for a Sunday Roast Smile

GoldenRuby · 20/10/2019 22:38

@Itscoldouthere I will keep my eyes peeled! You can probably guess my dog's breed from my username!

Itscoldouthere · 21/10/2019 12:54

@GoldenRuby ha ha well at least I know the colour 😊
Mines small, hairy and grey (a bit like me 🤣).

icanbewhatiwant · 21/10/2019 15:34

When we were dropping them off the first day I'd said on here I drive a Volvo XC60 (was saying quite a big boot) it's not that popular a car. I thought to myself that someone on here might see my Volvo and wonder whether it's me. Then when I got in the car park I saw at least 5. So it obviously is a more popular car than I thought.

One of our dogs is golden dog too. A Labrador.

Ds son only seems to communicate when he wants to send me photos of his meals. Just had a photo of his lunch, he was proud of himself "inventing" something new. He'd got mashed avocado and spring onion on toast. Not sure avocado on toast is a new idea, but he thinks so.

GoldenRuby · 21/10/2019 17:53

@icanbewhatiwant ours is the retriever variety! I am impressed with the amount to green and healthy food though with avocado and spring onion. I suspect the staple fare for DS (other than the roasts) is pot noodles.

icanbewhatiwant · 21/10/2019 19:39

@GoldenRuby yes I thought yours would be a retriever. My ds is desperate for a roast, that's what he asked for when he came home. I just had a photo of his chicken madras curry tonight. He had added peas to get a portion of veg.

CointreauVersial · 22/10/2019 13:07

Funnily enough, the most recent "look what I cooked" photo from DD1 was avocado on toast. Grin Having said that, she's a past master at it.

icanbewhatiwant · 22/10/2019 17:01

@CointreauVersial don't tell my ds. He thinks he invented it! 😂

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 23/10/2019 08:13

The first time I had an avocado I hated the taste/texture. Now I love them - so nutritious and delicious. The ultimate super-snack, I would have thought?

I live smashed avocado on toast but have recently discovered it's even better with chilli jam on the toast first. Delicious but unfortunately my DS's won't even try it Hmm

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 24/10/2019 09:32

That sounds super delish @sluj.

DS just sent through a view from his window - very foggy indeed.

The new science block will be officially opened by Jane Goodall today at 12. I'm wondering if it will be on the local news later (for those local parents who might be interested). DS should have had a maths lecture there today apparently but has to attend something else that has (inconveniently) been arranged to clash with it. I hadn't even realised that DS had lectures in the new block, given that he swapped courses from chemistry to computer science at the last minute so it's nice to hear something about what he's up to!

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 24/10/2019 20:55

Is the new block next to the Environmental Science block? Seem to recall that something was being built next door when we visited back in May 2018 (seems a very long time ago now!).

OP posts:
CharliesMouse · 24/10/2019 21:59

I don't know @NewModelArmyMayhem18. We looked at the science block when we visited just after it had been finished because DS was planning to study chemistry, but I don't know where it is in relation to any other block I'm afraid.

icanbewhatiwant · 24/10/2019 22:08

Yes ds messaged to say he spent 20 mins or so chatting to Jane Goodall.

It's a shame I'm not home to watch the local news, we are staying with family near Brighton. It's strange bringing 2 children away instead of 3. More room in the car though!

icanbewhatiwant · 25/10/2019 14:47

The anglia news report is on the twitter page.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 25/10/2019 16:11

How exciting for your DS @icanbewhatiwant.
