I guess our dc would be known as Sophomores in the States Grin Slightly scary eh?

This is a place to chat about the slightly strange and somewhat intense world our dc now inhabit during term time. It follows on from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/higher_education/3381401-Oxbridge-Freshers-2018

If parents of prospective oxbridge dc have any questions, we are happy to try our best to answer from our limited experience and perspective :)

All sounds very exciting sunndowne!

I really feel for those poor A-levels students and their families, it doesn’t look as if it’s going to be an easy fix even now. Fantastic news for your son too ofteninaspin. I was feeling relieved that DD is going into year 13 this year but there have been bits in the news about the knock on effect for next years university applicants. She’s hoping to give Oxbridge a try so it adds to the pressure, especially as they’ve missed so much time in school. She’s very cross that the “consultation” has concluded that, as A-level students are older, there is no need to make any change to the course content or assessment.

No exams now for DS when he goes back either, they have changed the assessment to a portfolio of work instead which seems fairer.

Good luck to Sunndowne's DD. Who would have imagined doing a year abroad in a pandemic!!
An assessment in lieu of exams for your DS seems a sensible approach Bake. I do feel concern for the upcoming year 13's. It's a busy and potentially stressful year at the best of times.

Just to say OYBBK has started a third year Oxbridge thread.

My DD has found a cambridge companion to stay with for a month and potentially the year. Never met but has good reviews from mutual friends!Grin airbnb booked today!
Fingers crossed for flights!!!

Good luck to all DC. Bet your DS will love Cambridge spin. Hope he likes his college. But they all seem nice.

Portfolio sounds good bake.

I have a neice and nephew applying this year. Am quite invested as my DN lost her mum Sad so I try to give lots of support. We can swap notes. Hope Oxbridge are mindful of potential disadvantages due to covid.

That's cos I was useless and forgot to mention Oxbridge in the title. Shock I swear I've lost all my remaining brain cells recently.
