Are you going to pick up results with your teen tomorrow/today?

Teen has decided it's deeply uncool for us even to exist to go and get results. Is it just us?

Am I the only one awake and stressing?

I'm awake and stressing. My daughter is collecting her results and has been stressing for days. My son is collecting his AS results and is as chilled as a cucumber. He states not a lot he can do now so why stress about it. They have just assumed I'm going in with them like I did with their GCSE's.

Awake & have just gone through all the correspondence from school trying to see what the format for today is. I must have deleted everything as I can’t find any details. Dd is back from holiday but got home around 1 & as DH collected her I went to bed.

Can’t you log in to UCAS early anymore? So you can find out if you have your uni place prior to finding out your actual result.

The student can but with DD1 we knew she had her place but not her grades. When she went in she was thrilled. With DS we knew his grades & that he hadn’t reached the required grades for his Firm or Insurance & I made him go in so the staff could tell him what to do rather than me having to argue with him.

In my day they came by post and it was also deeply uncool to go with parents to university open days, but times change.

So uncool 😂 my DS1 collects his results today, he is planning to drive in to college, meet a college friend then go out.

DS2 collects his gcse results next week, he won’t even let his cool older brother go with him, so DH & I are keeping well out of it!

Back in my day, you could pick up in person, and uncollected results would be posted in the afternoon post.

I agree that it was unusual then for parents to go with DC (either for O level/CSE or A level). That was still the case when my DC's results came round (and we're still in the exam years).

Uncool? Yes, I think that's a reason. This is a time to celebrate with or support friends.

Yeah I’m going as I’m worried he’s not going to get what he needs and we’ll have to go through clearing. I’ll sit outside until he calls me in, if necessary and then I’ll go in chat through any options with teachers - I don’t care if it’s uncool.

I’m so nervous!

Way back when, made the mistake of walking to school in a group for the results: 30 mins of leaden legs, horrible physical sensations from head to toe and much angst!

No way would Ds or any of his friends go with parents, it just isn’t done at his school.

And he wouldn’t let me.

His GCSE school was round the corner and they walked there in groups. For A levels a bus ride away and I have offered to drop him off but he has politely declined. And says he will text us.

My DDs asked me to go with her knows she’s not got into first choice.

She’s deferred a year as of away so plenty of time to sort what she wants to do. Does seem to have gone off uni in recent months as well.

See what later brings.

pre mobile phones, we were all instructed to phone home from one friend’s yuppy dad’s brick of a mobile phone! He drove his DD and parked down the road from the school (she didn’t allow him any further than that), wait, then deal with numerous excited/distraught teens. He did several car trips to the pub, before driving home alone, poor bloke.

She’s now found out got into insurance so happier that she hasn’t totally bombed as requirements where still BBC.

Surely you go along to video the opening of the envelope so that you can brag about it on social media? That's what the tiger moms were doing when DS got his results!
I stayed in the car and handed over beer money afterwards.

I collected my results in 1987 with a friend who had an offer from Oxford.
She got DDE and cried all the way home on the bus.
Took the shine off my "stellar" BCC which I was totally thrilled with as I hadnt expected to pass anything.
BCC was red brick in those days.
