That's all. After 5 years of trying she now has a fulltime course to go to in the autumn. For a disabled student with MH problems I think that's pretty good going. She now feels very glad she didn't get in as a 19yo as she knows she can get much more out of it now.

I won't be living through another drama school audition process ever!!! Grin

(yes, I know, then it'll be a life full of auditions but it's not the same, I won't be involved)

She still has another 5 or 6 auditions to go, but if she doesn't get them she is very happy with what she has got.

Life is stressful atm: work, Brexit, redundancies, ill health- but dd persevered against the odds for 5 years and dd has got into drama school!!! Every other thing that comes up- I can just think of that!!!

[where is the happy little dance emoticon???]

That's truly wonderful, Cory!

Shimy · 06/03/2019 15:05

Well done to your DD Cory, congratulations to you both. Start of a new journey Smile.

happyhappybunny · 13/03/2019 17:39

Congratulations! - mine is still going through the process! Soul destroying but "what does'nt kill ya makes you stronger" as they say and you need to be strong and deal with knock backs in the industry.

My daughters drama teacher had recommended Fourth Monkey but saying it was really hard to get in so mine did not try so that is a fantastic achievement

My daughter applied to Surrey (GSA) and was devastated to not be recalled but all the students showing us around were 4th or 5th attempt. 3000 applications for 30 places I think they said at openday

Mine still has Central and Chichester

errorofjudgement · 13/03/2019 20:11

My DD applied to Central, and had a fantastic day with 2 recalls, good luck to your DD x

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 14/03/2019 07:03

Errorofjudgement good luck to your DD too.

errorofjudgement · 14/03/2019 20:53

Thank you!

My DD is also still mid audition process. This is my fifth consecutive year of drama school auditions, my son is just about to perform his final 3rd year show before graduating this summer. Both had an 'enforced' gap year before DS got a place in his 2nd round and DD is on a foundation whilst trying for her third round. She has one recall so far with two more schools to go.
I thought that by now I would be used to it but I still feel sick on an audition day. And its not over.....DS has had a couple of auditions for acting jobs......:)

errorofjudgement · 16/03/2019 18:24

Without in any way wanting to hijack the thread, can I just say good luck to all those brave and talented DC who are currently applying for places. I read (& occasionally contribute to) the UCAS thread

errorofjudgement · 16/03/2019 18:25

.... but think that unless your D.C. are going through this process, it’s very hard to understand how difficult it is to get a place.

Flyingarcher · 16/03/2019 21:52

That's brilliant. Son got Chichester and Three other unis but only 'drama school' via Essex uni he applied for was East 15 and he said he knew he was on a hiding to nothing from the end of his first speech. They didn't like his Shakespeare either and didn't seem too open to a different interpretation rather than the norm. He hadn't really listened to me beforehand so it was a good wakeup call. He's not had any specialised help on his speeches (college has been useless) so hardly surprising. A lot of the people at the audition had been on the foundation course too.

You must be thrilled. Clever, talented girl. Ehlers Danlos is a bugger too.

corythatwas · 17/03/2019 11:07

Just checked into this thread and seen more lovely responses.

Fingers crossed for everyone whose dc are still auditioning!!!

Two recalls at Central is brilliant, error- you must be proud! Agree no one who hasn't got experience can have any idea of how difficult this process is, or how different from ordinary uni applications. You're up there being judged not only on your hard work and experience and talent, but also on your looks and personality and some intangible "the slot we need to fill in this particular group at this particular moment in time". And it's so intense.

happybunny I hope your dd is not feeling too downcast. Dd applied to GSA twice and didn't get a recall either. In the event she's quite glad as she feels Fourth Monkey is a better fit and that she will get more out of her studies being that bit more mature now. But it was hard at the time. Fingers crossed for your dd for Central and Chichester!

Flyingarcher, what is your ds planning to do? Will he take one of the uni places or try again next year? I feel for him re the Shakespeare- so difficult to judge these things right. Dd has some horror stories from her past failed auditions. Fingers crossed for him whatever he chooses to do!

@corythatwas Chichester is most definitely front runner but they've asked for massive grades. DDM. He is on course for DMM. He is working hard but the distinction in Business is less than likely. However, they invited him to apply for sports scholarship and I think that reduces grades a bit but could be completely wrong - have to wait and see. He loved it there though and got on really well with the interviewers. He like Chester ( where me and hubby went!). The acting course seems really good.

But, another outlier is Canterbury who didn't audition but he went for a taster day yesterday. There was only him and two others in the room! But, I shoved (forced) him into the theatre production taster because you can mix and match modules a bit and he loved it! ( no, oh you were right, darling mother). There are jobs in that area so now wondering about that. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

avocadochocolate · 17/03/2019 12:47

CONGRATULATIONS! such a lovely story . (My BFF has EDS, so I know what it's like)

OnGoldenPond · 03/05/2019 00:05

@errorofjudgement did your DD get an offer at Central in the end?

My DD just found out she has a place on the BA Acting (MT) course - she's thrilled! Smile

Hope others on this thread have also had good news

errorofjudgement · 03/05/2019 17:50

@OnGoldenPond oh wow congratulations to your DD, that’s amazing!!
Sadly it was a no from Central this year, though DD is on the reserve list at GSA. She’s looking for the straight acting though rather than MT.

RomanyQueen1 · 03/05/2019 17:56

Cory

Yes, I'm so happy for her and you. I've named changed but we have spoken before.
How amazing, I bet you are so proud. Good luck to her, it's been a long struggle.
How are you both celebrating? Thanks

OnGoldenPond · 03/05/2019 18:30

@errorofjudgement, that's a shame but she came very close and reserve list at GSA is fantastic. Shows that she has what it takes and it's just a matter of time before she lands a place. 🤞for her.

corythatwas · 03/05/2019 19:30

Congrats, GoldenPond: that is brilliant! MT is sooo competitive!

Fingers crossed for GSA error !

Dd had got to final round at Central but was in hospital with suspected encephalitis when the message went out, so that was one audition she was never going to make: she wasn't even in a state to know about it when the message went out. Thankfully she is going to be ok.
Also missed her RADA audition for the same reason.

Fortunately she is really, really happy about Fourth Monkey. She is celebrating by learning to walk in a straight line again. Grin

Cory, your DD has overcome so much to get where she is, many mountains others don't even have to think about. Thanks

I'm sure she will thrive at Fourth Monkey, it was highly recommended by DD's sixth form teachers and was on her list.

errorofjudgement · 03/05/2019 22:37

Oh Cory, your DD is an inspiration - I hope she has the most amazing time at 4th monkey Flowers

And thank you & GoldenPond for the good wishes for DD. She did so well for first time round, so is in good spirits for next year and looking forward to auditioning properly without the added stress of A levels!

whyayepetal · 06/05/2019 16:12

Well done coryDD! My DD1 has just completed second year of auditions - two callbacks but nothing more. Absolutely sure she wants to go for London based drama school rather than uni. She has part time work, doing amateur theatre, picking up some extras work and just got a professional gig for one weekend Smile. Currently on drama school gap year diploma, so she's really going for it, just needs to be the face that fits. One of her coursemates has accepted an offer to do English at Oxbridge - the others have all said they don't blame her for taking the easy option Grin

corythatwas · 06/05/2019 17:56

fingers crossed for your dd next time whyayepetal

she sounds very focused

dd was adamant all along that she wanted drama school rather than university & though she did audition for Bristol and Manchester and Royal Welsh, was actually very set on London

it's the closeness to everything that is going on, the ease of doing networking, of seeing what others are doing

BasiliskStare · 06/05/2019 18:45

@Corythatwas fantastic. Ds doing ( post grad ) courses and all a bit wading through treacle at the moment but he is focussed on what he wants to do . So many congratulations to your daughter Flowers

Flyingarcher · 07/05/2019 18:34

Hi. Just an update from archer land. Chichester came good and hav3 given him a scholarship so lowered his grades. Have had his performing arts final ( was ok, I've seen him do better but Fingers crossed it was enough). And stopping him getting the strops about a final assignment for a different subject, which is proving tricky as it is intensly repetitive and somewhat pointless and the lecturer is clearly fed up with them all so I hope he isn't going to blow it at the last hurdle.
