Which A Levels

I am hoping someone who has gone through this process can help. My son has chosen to study A Levels in Maths, Business and Economics and selected a lovely college. However he has now been told that Economics is no longer available. The problem is that he doesn't fancy doing any of the other options. Economics just fitted so well. He isn't planning on University. Now faced with choosing a random A Level, which I think is a waste, or leaving all his friends (he's shy and quiet) to choose another college. Any advice would be great!

I sort of agree with both points of view - I think there is a gulf between those who are talented at maths and the rest, but I think you can plod through A level maths with a lot of work, and not necessarily by taking time away from other subjects, and still get A-C. I also didn't mean to suggest that essay-based subjects are easy to revise last minute, sorry if it sounded like this!

DD's school (where the 3 girls mentioned also went) has a large 6th form and I think there are 5 or 6 setted A level maths groups, so the teaching can be aimed at a fairly specific ability level, which I imagine is much easier than trying to teach a mixed ability group at that level.

its been a few years since i did my alevels (just before the change over to this new grading system came in) but I did Psychology and Business, as well as sociology, and found psychology was really good, was my best and favourite subject. My friends who studied maths found it really hard work! I do think its better for your DS to stay at the college hed be happy with, and as others have said Computing or something would be a good idea or Psychology. I think he needs to do a subject he will enjoy but he can cope with too:)
