Wow that last thread filled up quickly. Well done to your DS, Piggy!

Are you sure they don't offer expenses? The more remote or inaccessible ones tend to.

LittleSpace · 20/01/2019 18:08

I'm not sure. Worth checking. Thanks for the suggestion.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/01/2019 06:14

Great that your DS is expressing a preference for some of the universities over others, Piggywaspushed.

DS has just got a slightly revised offer from B'ham University - from AAB to ABB (if firmed).

And of course the final puzzle piece is "do I want to live here?" My kids ruled out plenty of excellent unis on those grounds. my dd too. As we drove into the car park at Warwick she announced that there was no way she was ever living there! She ruled out Bath for similar reasons.

minesawine · 21/01/2019 13:06

Hi - Can I ask about revised offers.

How did your DC's get their revised offers? Was it an update on UCAS Track or a direct email from the uni. Also why do some students get revised offers and not others. What is the biggest grade drop that you are aware of?
Thanks

Laniakea · 21/01/2019 13:09

Dd got an email from Liverpool & an email then a letter from Cardiff (dropped their offer twice). I think track only updates when/if they chose to form the offer.

BringOnTheScience · 21/01/2019 13:10

DC1's alternative offers have both come as separate emails and are not on Track.

Why? Who knows?! I hope that it's because they read the PS and thought "We gotta have that one!"

LittleSpace · 21/01/2019 13:12

ds got one revised offer of two grades lower because he had attended a course for local students. It updated automatically via track.

justasking111 · 21/01/2019 13:14

OK DS is not very forthcoming is track coming from UCAS? We have to ask him if he has had any e-mail. Discovered he is not even reading those properly. Bangs head

LittleSpace · 21/01/2019 13:19

Yes track is via UCAS.

minesawine · 21/01/2019 13:24

Laniakea can you please let me know what the original grade was for Liverpool and Cardiff and what they ended up offering. DS's Cardiff offer was AAB and I was wondering whether this may get dropped slightly. Thanks

Lililili · 21/01/2019 13:48

Speaking of revised offers my DD has five offers, 2 of which seem to take in to account her 2 A levels that are already completed (these offers are both for 1B) and 3 of which don’t (These offers are A*, A, A and A, A, A in the 3 subjects she will sit this year). She has decided on her 1st choice, but is torn between her second choice of AAA and her third choice of B as her insurance. Do you think there is any likelihood that the AAA offer (Bath) would revise and that she should hang on before deciding?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 21/01/2019 13:59

Lililili, I think it would be worth your DD hanging for another couple of weeks at least. It certainly won't do any harm, will it?

OP posts:
sluj · 21/01/2019 14:02

I think it might be worth hanging on a couple of weeks as the universities are counting up their numbers after the January deadline and will be sending out incentives now. On Friday my DS got an amended offer from Birmingham and a UIF from Manchester Met. Also if your DC have applied to Keele, take a good look at the offer email as my DS's offer says it will lower the grades needed if he attends the offer day.

Laniakea · 21/01/2019 14:02

Liverpool dropped a grade to ABB (& will drop another grade for the EPQ)
Cardiff dropped from AAB to BBB (but that's after they've taken EPQ into account & only if she firms it will be ABB for insurance)

Bangor gave a AB offer & haven't dropped at all.

Laniakea · 21/01/2019 14:03

both said it was because of her GCSE results (which were very good - far better than her A level predictions!)

LIZS · 21/01/2019 14:09

Apparently Student Finance are doing an online q and a re. Loans etc on Wednesday for those wanting to know more about it.

Itscoldouthere · 21/01/2019 14:28

Hello everyone, I’ve been lurking on this post since my son submitted his UCAS.
Just wanted to join in, my son has been sent the weird ‘a current student would like to call you’ email from Reading, he’s really not sure about if he want to take the call or not 🤔
Piggy - I just wanted to say we visited Portsmouth and Lincoln before Christmas on open days.
I know Portsmouth from my student day (1000 years ago 😂) my boyfriend was a student there. I liked the fact that the uni buildings are in the middle of town although it’s quite a mix of buildings. The student accommodation was impressive and lots of it. I think the students have a good time but it’s not an amazing place. I was reasonably impressed by the overall/subject talks etc (but the course wasn’t right for DS).
I’d never been to Lincoln, we were very impressed by the town, lovely, really buzzy feel, pretty and very full on night life, the uni campus is at the bottom of the city, lots of new building, very good facilities, lots of good cheap accomodation, but we weren’t impressed at all by the subject talk, in fact put DS off completely, which was a shame!
Defiantly worth going to the offers days!
Very interested to hear some are getting lower offers as the time goes by.

justasking111 · 21/01/2019 15:18

I think it is a thing for existing students to phone and talk to aspiring students. They are probably more au fait with the ins and outs of the uni. than the lecturers.

VanCleefArpels · 21/01/2019 15:21

Kent has offered to drop from BBB to BCC if firmed. I expect it’s useless to think they might drop further or make it u/c?!

justasking111 · 21/01/2019 15:26

DS had invitation to Nottingham Trent in the post this morning plus an envelope no idea if it is uni. stuff though. The stress is grinding all our gears here. Our placid son is raising his voice a bit. My friend said her chilled out DS is the same at home.

VanCleefArpels · 21/01/2019 15:28

Stress at which one to choose justasking or are you still waiting for offers? We are going to NTU offer day at half term, mostly to rule it out as there is a lingering doubt in DD’s mind

justasking111 · 21/01/2019 15:34

Had five conditional offers, been to two unis, still two to see. I have two DS`s who went to uni. in 1998 and 2000, it was a lot simpler then. The school took responsibility being an expert in the field a given. This time, the school were very lax, careers UCAS teacher off sick for two months so it was a panic to get offers in for all the pupils.

No unconditional offers or a drop in grades for DS unfortunately. I can see why families grab an unconditional offer to be honest.

justasking111 · 21/01/2019 15:39

DS picked one on the other side of the country on his teachers advice. When we googled data on how good it was, student room, train fares, etc. it really came out badly, too late to change now, we did try. So we have just written it off. To be fair they have not even contacted DS once, so guess they are not so keen on him either lol.

Hey all! Wondered if I could join... not sure if this is the right thread but... anyhow at 30 years old I finally applied to University for a really popular course Confused thing is I haven't told anyone really as if I wasn't successful I didn't want to answer the questions or deal with embarrassment! Anyway, just got a reply from SHU with invitation to a selection event so it's one step closer and it's becoming real!!
