Now that they are back at school, working on Personal Statements, doing the final Open Day visits, I thought we could do with a new thread...

Quick question for anyone who knows about adding choices later - Ds has put 4 in. He would like to send it off now & add the 5th choice later. Does he still mark the Choices section as complete? Or will that prevent him adding his last choice later?

You can easily add later on once applied on the UCAS website called 'track'. There is just a button to press where you can add an option. Very easy to do.....

Decorhate · 18/10/2018 19:30

Yes I know you can add choices later. Just had a specific question about how to complete the section. Thanks anyway.

You mark the section as complete then.

eatinglesschocolate · 18/10/2018 19:44

justanothermile DD has a York unconditional too. What has yours applied for? Have acknowledgements from other three. Went in on Friday. Offer Monday. Unconditional Tuesday. Relaxed DD Wednesday! Grin

Decorhate · 18/10/2018 19:57

You mark it as complete when you put the four choices in?

Aurea · 18/10/2018 20:12

Yes. That's what we did.

Decorhate · 18/10/2018 20:25

Thank you!!

Aurea, DS applied for History. I think you're right, I don't think the Scottish unis tend to do rolling applications for home students on popular courses, they wait until all the applications are in in January and then look at them, I'd love to be a fly in the wall as they sort them out, there seem to be various conspiracy theories about who is advantaged/ disadvantaged! He's happily slogging away in the library at St Andrews

eatinglesschocolate · 18/10/2018 20:56

Hi fellow Scots. At DD's school some have had their Glasgow offers. They are conditional though (A Levels) so maybe they keep the unconditional pile till January?

LoniceraJaponica · 18/10/2018 21:04

Glasgow has a massive drinking and party culture.

Aurea · 18/10/2018 21:16

That's interesting they're taking A levels in Scotland. Are they applying with Scottish fee status? What type of school is it?
Thanks!

wigglybeezer · 18/10/2018 21:28

Aurea, DS is studying History, spending a lot of time reading at the moment!

wigglybeezer · 18/10/2018 21:31

Sorry about the double post.

wigglybeezer · 18/10/2018 21:35

Some of the more English public school style independents do A- levels, I briefly worked at Glenalmond and they do, so do Fettes, St Leonard's, Strathallan, etc.

Wiifitmama · 18/10/2018 22:11

I am interested in hearing about the unconditional from York. Ds heard from York today and has been offered an interview and the letter says he will get an offer regardless of if he attends, but attending might result in a lower offer. He is applying for Maths and has predicted grades of 3 A stars. Above what York require. Also well above what his offer is at Queen Mary's which he has also heard from. I think what I am wondering is if unconditional offers are more likely for some subjects than others?

VanCleefArpels · 19/10/2018 12:14

Offer from joint favourite in today - normal offer but will drop 2 grades if made firm! This is becoming a pattern it seems

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 19/10/2018 15:21

Now that DS has his finalised predicted grades (A*, A and B) and has heard about friends getting university offers already, he's bucked up his ideas (although still no sign of constructive criticism from form tutor on his personal statement). He's now got finalising his five courses on his to do list for half-term with a view to completing his UCAS application in early-mid November.

anniehm · 19/10/2018 17:15

Got first offer today, below the published one two, not her favourite so hopefully they will be deciding early too (they are known for being late though)

bizzey · 19/10/2018 22:57

Hi I have been following these threads and would like to join please. I have a ds who is so laid back it is painful !! Have questions but will wait till i have joined !

bizzey · 19/10/2018 22:59

Been accepted I mean .

AtiaoftheJulii · 20/10/2018 01:22

Hi bizzey - all welcome here, no need to wait to be approved Grin Ask away!

Marmie4 · 20/10/2018 09:55

Wiifitmama, the unconditionals at most unis including York are dependent on the subject. The stem subjects at the higher ranking unis are competitive and are less likely to receive unconditionals. My DS applied to York last year for a science course, his friend an English based course. My DS had better AS and predicted grades, yet the friend got the unconditional. York send offers very quickly ( DS received his in 24 hours) this makes me think that they don't put much consideration to the personal statement and the offers are based on grades.

AtiaoftheJulii · 20/10/2018 10:08

Although the first unconditional I heard of in real life was physics at Nottingham.

But I don't think physics is a particularly over-subscribed subject in general, and it tends to be the less over-subscribed subjects. My dd's was for MFL -not many universities are still selecting rather than recruiting for languages.

Wiifitmama · 20/10/2018 10:42

Marmie4 - thanks, that is what I thought. He has an interview at York first week of November and they have said in the letter he will get an offer anyway. Would have been nice to have an unconditional from somewhere but given that he is now only waiting to hear from the top 3 on his list (Cambridge, Imperial and Kings) and they are all for Maths, that seems unlikely!
