I really don't want to return to University

The title says it all really :( I'm a first year student at University. I've had a really long break, I've been back since early December. I knew I wasn't enjoying myself at uni before I left for Christmas, the happiest I had felt in months was preparing to leave and finally getting on that train back home! Now it is a few days until I have to go back, and it sounds really silly, but I am dreading it. I've loved having the long christmas break, however it has only highlighted how unhappy I was at uni.
I just wanted some advice on how to get through going back. Did any of you ever feel like this? Are you dealing with anything similar with your own sons and daughters? (I feel like I'm the only one not having a ball at uni!) Many thanks if any of you read this and respond. X

Well done for admitting how you're feeling.

Could changing accommodation be an option?

There's a very good uni group on Facebook if you're on there with some very wise posters. It's a mix of students and parents.

This is the link if you're interested and on Facebook

My DD dropped out and went to a different Uni , campus and quieter. She is now having the best time in her life . She reapplied via UCAS - it’s common - she’s met loads of friends at her new Uni who were “dropouts”. Reading your post her feeling were like yours - she ended up with terrible flat mates in her first uni and just had a miserable time . It’s so good to see her so happy after a tough last year. So you’re not alone - the difficult decision is to cut and re-apply or stick it out in the hope it gets better. Good luck

Hi Reluctance. I was wondering how you were doing?

@Corneliasedet
Thank you for checking in...I'm actually not back at university yet. I leave tomorrow morning (still dreading it 😂). I've already booked a train ticket for a visit back mid way through the term in 5 weeks time, which seems far too long away.

Although I'm not back yet, I have been looking at the accommodation pages. You have to find someone to take over your room before you leave it. I've joined a FB page where I can advertise this, but I will talk to them in person. Also booked an appointment with my supervisor, so I'll tell them how I'm feeling and how awful sharing a room has been!
I received a message from my room mate on Saturday asking me when I was coming back. It was literally "when you coming back?", no how are you? How was your Christmas etc...? Thought it was a bit rude to be honest, but maybe I'm being picky as I don't want to go back!

Hi Reluctance, sorry only just saw this. Hope your trip today went well and definitely speak to your supervisor. A friend of my recently said that she likes to pretend she has a bubble around her so when she’s in a difficult situation (like you in your shared accommodation- for now), she says she can see and hear everything going on around her but nothing can actually get her in her bubble. Maybe a mental bubble could help until you sort out somewhere new to stay. Good luck either way.

Hi, I've only just read through your post today and I have a 19 yo DS who seems to be in a very similar situation to yourself. In Year 1, not settling, not a "party animal ". Basically, it came to us driving him back to uni in the New Year and he had a meltdown not wanting to go back. His uni is 4 hours away, which makes it worse. After a few hours, he decided he'd go back and give it another chance.
I just wanted to let you know that you're not the only student going through this Smileand I hope you're doing okay.
