Is there any point studying Law other than LNAT universities ?

Our DD has visited several universities some that require LNAT and some that don't. We have split visits between her dad and me so whilst she has seen them all, we can't necessarily compare what we haven't seen. For the first time, we jointly visited Reading Uni last Saturday and I found it really refreshing - there were no airs and graces, the lecturers were engaging, campus was welcoming. DD liked it too. It felt like they recognised that new students are not the finished article but could become so in their time there.

My DH liked it too but was bit disappointed with the law firms they have links with - not the big names you see at Bristol, Nottingham, Oxford, etc.

Most of the places she has looked at are AAA or above so whilst entry requirements are similiar some require LNAT and some don't. Any opinions on how this makes a difference once you hit the real world after uni - you can probably tell I'm not a lawyer, both DH and I have science degrees but work in finance so DD is bucking our family trend.

How does that work Allthebestnamesareused? I thought the LNAT had to be sat before the main batch of aptitude tests on the first Wednesday after half term. And isn't STEP at the end of the A level season? My DC had to go off to the place in the nearest big town where driving tests are taken.

Not sure what me sounding great is supposed to mean babybarrister so I'll take it at face value :) You have to admit that sending a note to the pupillage committee to inform them that of something they already know and which is entirely irrelevant (viz that there's an aptitude test for law undergrads which has been in existence for years) is a bit OTT!

OTT, you'

Yes they are babybarrister but this one is kissing me and trying to take over the keyboard while I type. I wouldn't mind if he could type while I dictated but we haven't got to that point yet (still a puppy) :)

Good luck to you DD History

My DD actively avoided applying universities that required the LNAT. She wanted one less thing to worry about in the final year of A levels and after discussing it's relevance to future employers she decided not to sit it. She did however have to sit a law admission test at her current University but it was not something she could revise for.

DD did her vac schemes at city law firms during Easter and Summer this year and it was not referred to at all during the application process.

in a fiercely competitive field then a degree from an RG university if achievable should surely be the aim ?
