Dd has arrived, her 2 interviews are tomorrow. Her room looks massive from the photo she sent. My parents took her, as we live abroad, and my dad has reported back that all the students and staff on hand were very friendly and she should be fine. All fingers and toes crossed for tomorrow.

HardcoreLadyType · 06/12/2016 17:00

Good luck to your DD, jessica.

TheMortificadosDragon · 06/12/2016 17:02

DD isn't staying in college as DH wasn't sure what time they'd be able to get there - I think he's going to drop her off quite early tomorrow so she can mingle a bit before the interviews get going.

Carriemac · 06/12/2016 17:25

Dropped DD in oxford today, her first interview is at 6. I feel quite tearful for her, she is missing dinner at the college so meeting a school friend later which I think is a good idea.

doglover · 06/12/2016 18:06

We've just heard from DD that she's staying overnight! They haven't been told yet where any interviews are tomorrow but to expect to hear in the morning! Her two interviews today were "challenging" but quite enjoyable and she met up with an old school friend for hot chocolate this afternoon. She's loving it!

MrsBernardBlack · 06/12/2016 18:36

Wow. Very envious impressed that people are getting photos! I'm not expecting anything until the weekend, when he has promised to phone to let us know how it went (sigh).

BasiliskStare · 06/12/2016 19:04

I wonder if the girl Hardcore's dd met is going out with "Nailed it" boy.....

Cherryburn · 06/12/2016 19:33

My DD came across a few 'oh, haven't you read...) types when she was there for interview last year.

Strangely, none of them got a place...

TheCheeseAlarm · 06/12/2016 19:44

DS1 is on his way home from his Cambridge interview. He did a maths paper yesterday and interview this afternoon. He says he felt challenged but that he that he thinks it was OK. He's enjoyed the whole staying in college experience.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 06/12/2016 19:59

I have had photos too - very nice and huge room for ds - and a schedule of one i/v tomorrow, two on Thursday ... with possibility but not certainty of more. Tonight's activity is making and decorating gingerbread men Grin. Ds a bit bemused by this Grin

HamletsSister · 06/12/2016 20:06

DS is there too. No news beyond his arrival but he is terse in texts when he is busy.

Holy Moly.

He was told to be there for 10am tomorrow but was given a room tonight because of the travel time. His first interview is at 9am.

He is a 16 year old boy.

9am????? Agh!

It seems to have gone reasonably well. We shall see.....

Heard nothing other than 'Yeah, it's great fun' Confused.

shockthemonkey · 07/12/2016 15:33

Heard nothing and don't know when my DS will be home as Eurostar have just cancelled his train.

But he left home very, very wound up and telling me to "keep out of it" (when I tried to advise on clothes).

Hmm it's such a drawn-out process, isn't it?

jessicapearson · 07/12/2016 16:21

I only hear when I can see she is active on fb messenger and so quickly message her - annoying stalker mother alert! Anyway feedback is first interview was OK and second not so good but she answered the question with lots of prompting and got there in the end she said. So who knows. She was off to lunch and then into Oxford with another applicant. She is staying until Friday morning as she has an interview at another college then.So tomorrow is free for her.

It is a very drawn out process I agree. Even DH was a bit angsty last night saying he felt so helpless. Oh well, if it all comes to nothing it is at least a great experience for them all.

Good luck to all the dc on the thread yet to have their interviews.

doglover · 07/12/2016 19:39

Our DD has just arrived home form Oxford. They had to stay until 6pm to see if they were required tomorrow but she wasn't. She had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. She only had the usual two interviews at the college of her choice ....... does this imply that her chances of an offer are unlikely? She's overtired and slightly emotional now ....... it's going to be a long wait until Jan11th!

BasiliskStare · 07/12/2016 20:45

I am not an expert but Ds was advised from school , read nothing into whether you are invited to another college or not. He wasn't and had an offer. I think amongst people he knows they cover most permutations of being invited elsewhere / offers etc. Not helpful for guessing I know! Others will know better.

TheMortificadosDragon · 07/12/2016 20:52

DD's day at Cambridge seems to have gone OK - sounds like it was good cop/bad cop with the two interviews and the maths test wasn't too bad. But like everyone else, she can't really tell how it went. Meanwhile DH had a very nice time doing various museums. They're in Sheffield now ready for tomorrow which I'm sure will be a pleasant day out. while some of us are left at home working Grin

RhodaBull · 08/12/2016 09:06

Probably bumped into your dh, TheMortificadosDragon! Saw quite a few people with a "parent" sign over their head, often with a sick-looking dc in tow.

Ds was a bit thrown by one interviewer asking why he hadn't gone to university last year. Ds stammered and stuttered and had to admit that he had applied but not got in. Then the interviewer asked where he'd applied to and could he remember who had interviewed him. I hope this doesn't mark his card.

goodbyestranger · 08/12/2016 09:49

They would have been trying to ask about gap year plans Rhoda and loads of people re-apply and get in so it absolutely shouldn't matter. The college/ tutor question was probably just a very casual question on the part of the interviewer, maybe to relax him after he got flustered. Am I right that he's interviewing at Cambridge not Oxford this year? I hope he recovered his poise and that it didn't throw him for the rest of the interview.

goodbyestranger · 08/12/2016 09:50

How stupid of me. Ignore the Cambridge question Blush.

TheMortificadosDragon · 08/12/2016 09:50

Rhoda - well, that may depend on what opinion yesterday's interviewer has of the previous years - academic colleagues don't always think well of each other. Presumably the reapplication is because your DS now has some good A level grades under his belt - its not at all uncommon for kids who want a place somewhere very competitive (medicine and vet its quite normal) to take the gap year.

BasiliskStare · 08/12/2016 10:32

Rhoda, if the interviewer knew the peripatetic grumpy women it may have counted in his favour Smile .
