DS has done his exam (Oxford, History) and written his essay. Now, the waiting begins.......

Anyone else?

Can I join if it's for myself? Just put my application in (March round)

HamletsSister · 05/12/2016 09:31

What is the March round? I thought the deadline was October 15th? Is that for mature students or postgraduate.

But, welcome!

Motheroffourdragons

Stay calm. Make tea. Arrange travel and money for chips and snacks en route. Give short lecture on alcohol and being sensible. Remind him to shake hands and that he is on display for 3 full days. Buy travel sized products to save on weight because of all the books. Offer a new t shirt.

At least that is what I have been doing. I am a teacher, so theoretically could help but DS is not at all interested in anything other than a bit of mothering.

Thanks!

March round, yes, a later admissions round, only for mature students applying to mature colleges, because lots of mature students do one year courses so October is too early for predicted grades or academic references.

HamletsSister · 05/12/2016 11:24

Good luck IcedVanillaLatte . A mature college sounds like much more fun!

Hi motheroffourdragons.

DD is in an interview, as we speak!

One of her teachers gave her lots of practical tips like, knock on the door if it is shut, and if it is ajar, still knock. If the chairs are soft, make sure you plat your feet on the floor, so you can get up off them. Don't go out the night before and have a drink with the other applicants! Remember, you are on show to everyone while you are there - porters, food serving staff, cleaners, as well as the more obvious people like the admin staff and interviewers themselves.

She found this sort of thing helpful.

HardcoreLadyType · 05/12/2016 11:57

Well, she's just come out, and said it was awful, and she's never felt so inane. Shock

That's the straw I'm grasping at, mother. Wink

BasiliskStare · 05/12/2016 13:20

Hardcore , I too have heard at an Open day that the interviewers sometimes see a candidate leaving , clearly dejected , whilst they are thinking the person had done well. The main thing is she goes and clears her head and as far as possible doesn't let it put her off her stride for the next one. Which is easy to say from one who doesn't actually have to do it Smile and I am sure you have already said it to her. Good luck.

HardcoreLadyType · 05/12/2016 13:34

Thanks Basilisk. Flowers

HardcoreLadyType · 05/12/2016 14:51

She's into the second one soon. If anyone's around, cross your fingers for her.

HamletsSister · 05/12/2016 14:54

HardcoreLadyType fingers, and toes crossed. My understanding is that the ones who feel it went well are often deluded and rarely get in....bit like me and the first 5 of my driving tests.

HardcoreLadyType · 05/12/2016 15:00

Thanks Hamlet.

I have reminded her that each interested stands on its merits, so even if she has done badly it's still "all to play for".
