DS1 has his last exam tomorrow, but won't be home until the end of June. There is a big summer concert he is playing in in a couple of weeks. We are going down for it, looking forward to it.

Hard to believe first year is over!

Peaceandl0ve · 20/06/2017 16:40

Well, she's only gon and done it, first year vet science exams passed! Phew she was so worried, now offically a mum of a second year vet student! Its epic!
Boast over.... as you were folks and thanks for listening.

Leeds2 · 20/06/2017 16:52

Well done to her, Peace.

mygrandchildrenrock · 20/06/2017 21:37

That's good news!

Dunlurking · 20/06/2017 22:04

Well done to her Peace I know they're very tough. Used to be 80% pass mark in Anatomy at my uni.

raspberryrippleicecream · 22/06/2017 09:22

Well done to her Peace.

We had a surprise visit from DS last week for 48 hours after his exams, which was lovely.

Peaceandl0ve · 22/06/2017 21:18

Thanks all and yep, well done indeed; the stress was just as bad as for A Levels, i hadnt expected it to be like that! Hopefully all the DCs are ending there first year with passes.

soapybox · 23/06/2017 09:44

DD came home two weeks ago, had some of her university friends to stay for a few days and is now getting more bored by the day!

She has gone to Birmingham university open day with my DS today, so the cycle begins again!

She found out yesterday that she had passed all her first year exams, so we now have a second year medical student on our hands!

I can't believe that first year passed so quickly!

Well done to your DD soapy.

DS has acquired a food thief for his last week, food has gone missing from his freezer. Such a shame to be finishing like that!

EllenJanethickerknickers · 29/06/2017 23:45

DS1 finished his exams 3 weeks ago but stayed at Warwick to party and got involved in some demonstrations against 'restricting academic freedom' I think. Grin Sweet!

He's started seeing a girl from his course so is all loved up, but she lives about 250 miles away, Kent or East Sussex.

He got his results today and has aced his exams. Very happy, just a shame they're only worth 10% of his final degree.

He's travelled back today with his father and is going on a scout camp this weekend. So getting all his gear back here will be 'interesting.' He starts his summer job on Monday, 9-5 for 8 weeks during the break.

Funnily enough, his kitchen aquired a food thief in the last week or so, raspberry. He's left a couple of days before the end of term so has told his kitchen mates to eat up anything they fancy that's left.

mygrandchildrenrock · 14/07/2017 21:34

Well my son got his first year results today and has done extremely well, they don't actually count towards anything but are a great way to end the year.

GasLightShining · 16/07/2017 15:41

Well done to those who have passed and good luck to those waiting.

DS has passed his so all good. Is it the norm that the results don't count ? Or do they at some unis?

He has been working a lot so hopefully will have a bit of money to go back with. He needs to re-apply for student finance as our income has dropped dramatically

Squirrills · 16/07/2017 16:42

Some count some don't. DS1 did maths at Warwick and his first year counted for around 10% of the degree I think.
DS2 did very well but his don't count, although I'm sure that good results in year 1 stand them in good stead. Also they were told that some employers ask for the first year marks.

He has the tenancy for his 2nd year house now, even though they don't move in until late September. We are going to check it out and get the keys next week.

Peaceandl0ve · 16/07/2017 16:46

My DD also passed her first year. I didnt realise how like waiting for A Level results it would be! We are beyond proud because it is a v challenging degree and she has had to mature a lot to meet the challenge.

Good luck to those still waiting and well done to those who have passed. And obvs good luck to those facing resits.

LIZS · 08/08/2017 12:31

Ds has finally had his 2nd year options confirmed, all as requested. Fortunately he is heading back this week for a job interview so can get a head start in the library.

hennipenni · 17/08/2017 10:59

DD passed her first year, very very proud of how she coped and continued to work hard with the extra stresses that her younger sisters illness has caused.
She's had a relaxing summer, has been doing some volunteer work for a charity shop and developed some good transferable skills.
Just sorting out a date for her to move back to her new house next month which is proving difficult due to the amount of hospital appointments we have to attend with her sister.

Squirrills · 18/08/2017 12:37

How is everyone doing? It seems like so much longer than a year when we were waiting for those results and then booking the accommodation. Then the packing of everything but the kitchen sink.
I've just been reading all the threads for this year's cohort. All the same worries and celebrations.
DS did well in his exams and has already moved a few bits into his second year house. It's just about waling distance from campus so he won't need a bus pass though he's thinking about taking his bike.
He's done a bit of part time work but I think he's now looking forward to going back.

Dunlurking · 23/08/2017 17:03

Ds is busying himself with various student society affairs in readiness for Freshers Week. Also immersed in his summer job, but planning to take a last minute holiday in September with a friend. It feels like I've just got used to having him home again, so not looking forward to losing him again.
Are there any issues with year 2 that we should be worrying about? I'm a born worrier. I think he has to do an internship in the summer of year 2, so perhaps I can worry about that although the department have already organised a lot of the placements, so it would be a pointless worry, but that doesn't usually stop me

raspberryrippleicecream · 23/08/2017 19:17

DS1 will also go back early for Freshers Week. I think he is going to borrow our car and drive down a week earlier than that to collect house keys and take some stuff! He's been working hard in a summer job.

He is on a 4 year course, so year 2 doesn't seem quite so scary!

Am currently headed into the UCAS madness with DD. Different subject, different priorities, so it feels like starting again!

Dunlurking · 23/08/2017 19:40

Good luck with UCAS round 2 raspberryripple. Yes ds is taking possession early as well, then coming home again. Gives me a practice run at getting used to his absence again. Impressed that your ds is in already Squirrills

Squirrills · 24/08/2017 09:32

raspberryrippleicecream I guess UCAS round 2 will be different in lots of ways though hopefully some of the lessons learned with your DS will be useful. DS1 was on a 4 year course but decided at the end of year 2 to switch to the 3 year one.

Dunlurking DS had his arm twisted to be the "lead tenant", probably because we live the nearest. I did draw the line when the landlord wanted him to take five sets of keys and distribute them to flat mates around the UK.
I don't know about year 2 issues, probably subjects and students vary! DS1 certainly found year 2 the toughest academically, not least because he did too many modules.

LIZS · 15/09/2017 09:03

Ds is heading back later. 2 of his housemates are already in situ and 4th due to move in on Sunday.

GloriaHotcakes · 16/09/2017 09:55

DS has been back for two weeks now. I do miss him but not as bad as last year.

Squirrills · 16/09/2017 17:39

Dropped DS off yesterday. The car was bursting even though we had already taken some stuff when he got the tenancy. We still forgot a few things.
I meant to check out the smoke alarms - we had a faulty one at home and he slept through it twice. Apparently he slept right through a full scale fire alarm last year in halls Hmm.
Agree it's not as bad as last year.

IdaBiscuit · 17/09/2017 17:01

I've nced to post this as otherwise it's a bit outing, but we've got a Facebook group with uni mums/dads and this is a big weekend for lots of them dropping off for freshers.

Some are finding their housemates not as friendly as they hoped (closed doors etc) and I wondered if anyone would mind popping over to reassure that it gets better?

Much appreciated if so x
