A level Results - 18 days - anxiety rising....anyone else??

Poppledopple · 31/07/2016 13:31

Maybe because it is August tomorrow - but seems to have come round quickly. Had a nice break not thinking about anything since last exam and after full on year choosing, applying, getting rejected, getting offers etc....

Might as well switch off and try and get distracted for the next 18 days....as either way it will be v busy few days/weeks after results to get started on next phase of his life.

PFB -- any old hands out there want to give me a slap?

I feel just the same Northernlurker. I am trying to breathe and live in the moment but I keep getting a picture of what it was like last year on AS day when she did so badly and I start to unravel...

Stillunexpected · 16/08/2016 15:08

I am forcing my mind away from the thought whenever it strays there as it makes me feel physically sick to think of waking up to whatever the news may be. Worst of all, I might actually have to go and wake up my DS if last year and AS results is anything to go by!

Biglaugh · 16/08/2016 15:44

I feel physically sick too - but I am not letting it get in the way of inappropriate emotional eating Cake Biscuit Grin

NapoleonsNose · 16/08/2016 16:03

DD and I have spent an hour or so preparing a list of 'what if it all goes tits up' clearing potentials. So she now has a vague plan if it does all go wrong. Fingers crossed it won't though. I can feel my anxiety rising now. Luckily I am at work all day tomorrow so can try and forget about it for a bit.

IDismyname · 16/08/2016 16:05

Hello Everyone - I can ignore the elephant in the corner no more, and am ready to face up to the fact that, today, we have less than 48 hours before the results come in.

Argh!!

However, I am so glad that Big Laugh has officially said its OK to do inappropriate eating... (I am SO looking for an excuse to break my Low Carb diet)

Just5minswithDacre · 16/08/2016 16:05

The problem is, once you've done that, you're as prepared as you can be and it's back to thumb twiddling.

Sod it, I'm going to wallpaper something. There's nothing left to clean Grin

Biglaugh · 16/08/2016 16:14

A lot less than 48 hours ishouldcocoa, so you might want to get on a carbfest to self-medicate

I am visualising being inside some sort of protective shield or bubble whilst at the same time blaming myself for not being more of a Tiger mother (actually not even a bit of one)

Biglaugh · 16/08/2016 16:16

You can come to my house Just5minswithDacre
We've got plenty of cleaning Wink

Stillunexpected · 16/08/2016 16:17

Can I just check that if DS is taking a gap year, we don't need to formulate a Plan B until after the results (if it all goes wrong)?! He won't be phoning clearing so we have time to think about what to do in a reasoned fashion?

Biglaugh · 16/08/2016 16:22

That's my plan

Dunlurking · 16/08/2016 16:23

I keep my inappropriate food in the freezer to deter impulsiveness . Now seeking a fast defrost method for carrot cake.....

IDismyname · 16/08/2016 16:23

Still - I think that is the case, as we're in the same boat as you.

I think that if you don't get in this time around, you have to reapply via UCAS for next year, but with your DSs' (and maybe mine??) clutching their results. Im guessing the offers then come through. Obviously, there may be retakes in the mix, too... and maybe interviews early next year?

Im happy to be corrected if this is wrong.

Tell me, Big Laugh when it is reasonable to start on the gin?

Stillunexpected · 16/08/2016 16:26

Ishouldcocoa DS adamant there will be no retakes here! I think he should be OK really as he "only" needs ABB. He has also announced that he doesn't now want to the course for which he applied (aargh - holding head in hands and sobbing) and may reapply for something completely different!!! In his more optimistic moments, he also says he may have done better than anticipated and may want to do something with higher entry requirements!

IDismyname · 16/08/2016 16:44

I am metaphorically sticking my fingers in my ears and trilling "LaLaLaLaLa" whenever the discussion arises as to "How Well Do You Think I've Done". I'm done with speculation!

DS crashed and burnt quite spectacularly in one of his AS subjects that he then took for A2 (and retook the AS). Its a really important subject for the course he wants to study. After the AS he thought he'd done "Quite Well".

I'm not sure I count a U as doing "Quite Well" Hmm

Hence the real desire to hit the (high carb) scottish shortbread in my cupboard.

On the bright side, I see that gin (and slimline) is pretty low carb, so not long until Drinkies :)

NapoleonsNose · 16/08/2016 16:46

You're right Just5mins. I am now thumb twiddling and furiously reading threads about results day on The Student Room. I've baked this morning, something of a rarity in this house, so we have lots of cakey things for inappropriate eating. Tomorrow evening, I think I will need lots of wine

Just5minswithDacre · 16/08/2016 16:53

We've got plenty of cleaning

I'll keep it as a reserve option, if that's okay? Smile

I might pop into Napoleon's house first and see if there's spare cake Wink

EllenJanethickerknickers · 16/08/2016 16:54

DS has a list of things to take into school on results day given by the school.
Pen and paper
Fully charged and credited mobile phone,
Copy of AS results including module results
Copy of Telegraph, (considered easier to browse for clearing than the UCAS website)
Copy of UCAS letter giving UCAS number and offer grades for firm and conditional
Contact details for firm and conditional universities.
Copy of personal statement
Copy of school reference

The school is a super selective grammar and has 99% of sixth formers go to university. It seems very helpful and has a lot of experience helping students on results day with adjustment or clearing if applicable. DS moved there for sixth form and it's a different world to his old comp.

Biglaugh · 16/08/2016 16:58

ishouldcocoa the time is NOW Grin

poppledopple · 16/08/2016 18:46

We've been told UCAS track goes live by 8 but may be available as early as 6am.

Has this happened in the past? and who has suggested this?

We have been told 8am by the school and UCAS website saying the same.

Sooner the better......

Ellen why do they need AS results (inc modules)?

OP posts:
TwuntingCat · 16/08/2016 18:53

popple DD's college said it may go live earlier so if they wake up at 6 to check their results on the college website they may as well start checking track straight away, although they will have a good idea of what it will say anyway.

BethanKate · 16/08/2016 18:55

Hi everyone. Waiting for Thursday as well. DS hoping to do Maths at Warwick. Goes into school at 8 am to get results. School haven't said anything at all about what to bring in. Some useful information on here thank you.

Hassled · 16/08/2016 19:00

I'm feeling slightly calmer as we finally have something like a Plan B. The insurance Uni has been emailed asking for a release, on the basis that DS2 would rather have a gap year or try his hand at Clearing than go there. Just acknowledging that feels like progress. So I think it will probably be a gap year and try again - he's quite young for his age, I think, so it wouldn't be a bad idea at all. And we've both sort of got our heads around that so if it all goes tits up on Thursday I think DS2 will cope.

Cocolepew · 16/08/2016 19:32

Same here Hassled, I've gone very Zen like Grin
Theres fuck all I can do if DD hasn't got her grades so theres no point freaking out.
She has her plan B in place and is happy about it.
DD is quite young for her age too. A year at a college that treats her more like an adult wouldn't be a bad thing. I wasn't mad on her sixth form at the grammar school.
