I'm sure there are some dc out there applying to places which don't often get mentioned on here. Hoping this will be a safe place to discuss these much overlooked (by mn) but still wonderful universities. Sometimes middle ranking institutions in the overall tables often trump over several of their more famous cousins when it comes to subject tables and don't really deserve the silent treatment.

Great to have the decision made Tracey. Congratulations to your DS.

GasLightShining · 21/02/2016 21:41

Sit back now and relax now. Well done

BestIsWest · 23/03/2016 16:30

DS finally firmed USW at the weekend, accommodation application gone in and I'm wading through the Student Finance forms. How's everyone else doing?

traceyinrosso70 · 23/03/2016 17:12

DS has firmed his offer at DMU, applied for accomodation and got his first choice of halls and got student finance sorted

NapoleonsNose · 28/03/2016 20:24

DD has firmed Reading. We've done Student Finance and thats all been approved. It was surprisingly painless as well. Just got to send a copy of my P60 off to finalise. Accommodation opens next month and then its the dreaded exams.

BestIsWest · 28/03/2016 20:39

Just completed the Student Finance online this afternoon. It was surprisingly painles, I agree. He is applying for DSA so he needs to get a copy of his dyslexia assessment when he goes back to sixth form next term so we can send that off.m

Just glad to have the decision made finally.

Unconditional offer received, student finance done, accommodation applications open on Friday Smile

thingamujig · 31/03/2016 22:34

Does an unconditional offer mean just that? DD got one today from Leeds Trinity, but what if she actually fails some of her A-levels? This is not beyond the realms of possibility - she's done very little work this year. Surely they wouldn't still take her if she actually failed her chosen subject (psychology)? Does anyone know? Thanks.
PS. I know, I should be over the moon - but daren't be!!

GasLightShining · 31/03/2016 22:57

Well done Rocky.

Student finance done here too and accommodation is tomorrow for us too. DS wants catered and he has somehow persuaded DH that this is a good idea!

Thing Well done too. As far I am aware unconditional means just that

Eatyourveg How is your DS getting on with his placements

BitchyComment · 01/04/2016 15:23

thingamujig

If it says unconditional on UCAS with no conditions then it really is unconditional and your DD could fail her A'levels and she would still have her place.

eatyourveg · 04/04/2016 08:49

Hi Gas one of the placements has somewhat fallen apart - ds was supposed to be going off to London yesterday to stay with ds1 for the week but decided he has too much work to do and can't afford to be away from home. He told the company that he had found something nearer home which didn't incur travel or accommodation costs - they were surprisingly fine with it.

He has managed to secure some extra sessions from his paid job and next week is at the local uni which is actually not really very local - over an hour away by train and then a bus. Apparently lots of students haven't secured anything Shock I asked ds how will they be able to do the assignments for the unit and he said they'll just make it up! Hmm

How is your ds getting on with the reffing? ds was put off the catering at CM as they said that sometimes they missed tea if they were late back from away matches. We only saw the sc halls. Do the catered halls have mini kitchens to make snacks in?

Congrats to Rocky and Thing on the unconditionals.

GasLightShining · 05/04/2016 13:30

The fact he has done some of it will make him look better than other students.

Not much reffing has been done as they tend to break for the school holidays and the matches he did get he has had to decline because of work. May be the last few weeks of the season will be better. He has been approached to be one of the refs for a summer football tournament.

He has put in a request for full time hours to start after college finishes so hopefully he will get a bit more money saved

I think we had more positive comments than negative about catered and DS won't be playing elite sport so may not be so much of a problem. From the information sent in the acknowledgement e-mail the self catering refers to an electric cooker and the catered say a hob. DS favourite food is pasta so as long as he can boil up a pan of that he will be happy!

Hope your son enjoys his week at the uni

eatyourveg · 05/04/2016 20:03

A hob will be good and presumably then a fridge too. I think I lived off of a hob as a student - pasta tuna and baked beans all mixed in a saucepan with a spoon of marmite. Sounds horrible now but I loved it at the time.

GasLightShining · 05/04/2016 21:46

It's pasta, tuna and mozarella with my son. Disgusting

There is a fridge/freezer and a microwave too so he will manage!
