What paths to High Paid careers

DD is academic, ambitious, competitive & materialistic. She wants a list of options to well paid careers besides medicine.

I work in a Medical School & I worry she'll get too stressed out on the course. She agrees that she needs to consider other jobs, to make a good choice, excluding sports & performing arts too.

There are A Lot of well-paid lawyers on MN. I work with very well paid Professors. There's a list here but it doesn't even include the University Proffs, so I wondered who else was left out. Anyone else want to describe paths they have seen how people got into high paid jobs (> £75k/annum)? TIA.

Mominatrix, I agree. Hard work is the core factor. I always say I earn under £1m (and a lawyer) ( so far but live in hope) and over £100k and my doctor brother is the same and we both earn a lot and we both earn a lot harder than most people are prepared to work. 5 to 7am can be core working hours for us and we've both done it full time for 30 years without any breaks (I didn't even have maternity leaves - msot women are not prepared to do that).

However in advising teenagers I do think if they can pick a profession which is relatively high paid and get good exam results that is an easier start than leaving school at 16 and trying to found your own business. Unless you really know how you will make your money at 16 and want to get on with it immediately it is more likely children do better if they continue their education. Even my son who is currently a postman says he is glad he did his BA although currently his most useful skill is ability to walk long distances carrying heavy loads, reliability and his driving licence.
