Continuing Roisin's thread.

I've even succumbed to TSR, having sworn I wouldn't. Still no news here and haven't heard of news from any other source in the same subject at the same college but being very uncool tbh as the reality is that rejection after an interview would be much kinder for DS than a no ab initio. Massively cheered by a late afternoon offer from Bristol though. I thought I was chilled, I'm clearly not Grin.

Fingers crossed for everyone still waiting and hoping. It's very hard to see them disappointed, is the problem :(

Just logged on to see if the Cambridge results were in.

Congratulations to those with good news and commiserations to anyone disappointed. For the latter we all know they have done brilliantly to have got so far and, no doubt, will be massively successful wherever they go. I wish them all the best of luck.

It's quite funny that for ds it is as if the whole Oxford thing never even happened! He has been chatting about accommodation choices at his first choice uni and an upcoming visit to his second choice - he is just annoyed that Oxford is so slow to update UCAS as he wants to put in his choices now!!!!

bobs123 · 10/01/2015 12:59

Rejection for DD Sad. Her boyfriend and 2 others from her school have also had rejections. Still waiting to hear about her other friends...

Initially sad as isn't used to getting rejected but is getting over it. Not looking forward to school on mondays and the teachers questions!!

Congrats/commiserations to everyone else!

welshpixie · 10/01/2015 13:12

DD has been offered a place at Emmanuel for Anglo-saxon Norse and Celtic, she said it doesn't feel quite real

Grammar · 10/01/2015 13:22

Offer here, for Midle Eastern and Asian studies at New Hall, A*A A.
Not quite real. So sorry about the rejections.

MrsBartlet · 10/01/2015 13:36

Sorry to those who have had rejections (especially webwiz's ds - fellow English applicant). Hoping they are all able to move on from this quickly.

Dd's excitement has been tempered by her best friend getting rejected. We were shocked as she is the brightest young person I have ever met - Cambridge are missing out.

webwiz · 10/01/2015 13:41

Thanks for the considerations MrsBartlet I think Monday will be hard for DS but then everyone moves on and forgets about it. Me and DH were both rejected from Oxford and got over it so I'm sure DS will soon enough.

webwiz · 10/01/2015 13:43

I think that should be commiserations stupid predictive text.!

MrsBartlet · 10/01/2015 13:49

He will get over it but it is tough for them as they have to immerse themselves in the process and then it is a real knock back if it is a rejection. Wishing him very well wherever he goes.

Scottandcharlene · 10/01/2015 15:18

This thread is bringing back happy memories from last year. Congratulations to all those with offers, and commiserations to those who missed out. Wherever they end up it is such an exciting time in their lives and having just seen DD's friends over Christmas it is wonderful to see them all so happy. Enjoy this special time!

MarianneSolong · 10/01/2015 15:34

I just want to thank the various parents for everything they've shared. It's been one of the nicest MN threads that I have been on. If the children are anything like their mothers - and fathers? - they'll grow up to be good helpful members of society.

cathyandclaire · 10/01/2015 16:33

Many congratulations to everyone with offers and Wine and Cake for those without. It's a long and harsh process, some of the brightest and most talented people at DD's school have had nos. Wishing everyone all the very best with A levels and in the future, as an ex-London student (UCL and Imperial) I can definitely confirm that there is much fun to be had elsewhere!

Marianne, our DDs may be at the same college in the Autumn is there some secret Mumsnet handshake they should learn? :)

MarianneSolong · 10/01/2015 16:48

My daughter very much disapproves of Mumsnet cathyandclaire. But perhaps there's another way...

GraceFox · 10/01/2015 17:26

Ds got an offer for English.

GypsyFloss · 10/01/2015 17:38

Congratulations and commiserations to all the MN offspring who heard today . DD's friends have had two offers, one decline and she's waiting to hear from the last one.

I think I'm secretly quite relieved that DS is saying he's not into the idea of uni. I'm not sure I can do all this again!

MrsBartlet · 10/01/2015 17:49

Great GraceFox. Dd has an English offer for Emmanuel - which college is it for your ds?

GraceFox · 10/01/2015 18:04

It was a direct offer from the pool Mrs Bartlet so he'll need to wait till Monday to get full details. He found the interviews very tough, and seems genuinely surprised by today's news.

Molio · 10/01/2015 18:20

cathyandclaire it's the same every year - often big surprises as to who gets a yes and who doesn't. There's inevitably a good dose of subjectivity involved in the interview process - which perhaps translates as luck. I'm very surprised (but very pleased, obv) that DS got an offer as his grades are decidedly moderate but we just thought it was worth a shot. On the other hand some of his exceptionally clever close friends have been told no, which has definitely made DS feel bad. I'm hoping they'll re-apply because they should be there, but it's tough going through it again and the stakes get higher. Anyhow, I'm sure DS isn't alone in feeling in two minds now about his success.

I'd like to second Marianne about the good nature of this thread. It's been really refreshing not to have any nastiness at all. The thread has certainly helped me through the process and waits. Thanks all!

Molio · 10/01/2015 18:22

GraceFox do you mean those with direct offers from the pool don't know their college quite yet?

OP posts:
GraceFox · 10/01/2015 18:31

In our case, yes. I understand all letters went out yesterday, so I guess some direct pool offers landed on doormats today, and the rest should reach candidates on Monday. If ds doesn't get a letter by then, he's going to try ringing his original college to see if they can enlighten him. I'm not sure though, how much specific info is fed back but there's no harm in asking.

MrsBartlet · 10/01/2015 19:32

That is great GraceFox. So exciting on Monday to find out where he has got! Best of luck to him.

Also, agree with everyone else that this has been a lovely thread to be on as well as the Y12/Y13 thread - so much kindness and support.

Fellfan · 10/01/2015 19:36

Well after a long day waiting, the envelope was finally opened, and son has received an offer. His joy has been reduced somewhat by news from friends who haven't been so lucky. I am immensely proud of him as I have watched him carefully craft words of support and encouragement to them. What a ghastly process this is. Congratulations to all those with offers and commiserations to those who have missed out this time.

bobs123 · 10/01/2015 19:45

Congrats Fellfan Smile - must have been a really long day!!!

Fellfan · 10/01/2015 19:50

Thank you! It was!

GraceFox · 10/01/2015 19:55

Yes Mrs Bartlet - it's tantalising but in a very good way.

I too have found this thread very supportive and utterly sincere. No sniping or oneupmanship, just good wishes and above all the acknowledgment that all our dcs have done their best, and deserve recognition for this, regardless of this week's outcomes.

MadameJosephine · 10/01/2015 20:12

Congratulations felldan, glad it was worth the wait.
Thank you all for your support during this stressful process; This thread has been a godsend. I dont have anybody in real life who gets it the way that you lot do.
For those with offers, best of luck to you all and your DC in meeting or indeed exceeding the conditions and hope you have a fabulous experience at Oxbridge, make mumsnet proud!
For the rest of us, onward and upward, there are plenty of other good universities out there and we shall take them by storm. Look out Imperial College, here comes my DS :)
