A welfare package to finalists?

Anybody done one? Mine seems to want cake and that certainly doesn't survive the post.

Any other ideas? Think food!

DDs tutors are great, asking their tutees for tea etc. DDs elder sister was at the same place and her tutor made sure she came back from sabbatical in NZ just to hand out chocolates to her finalists. Can't praise them too highly. DD is refusing hall food on the grounds that it's completely inedible - and yes, expensive, though I think that's secondary. So she seems to be surviving on cigarettes, air and I think some ready meals from Sainsbury's next door. Anyhow, she got through the door of the first final which is an achievement in itself (about ten seats were empty) although it was clearly not a roaring success :( But she went back in for number two today, so hopefully she'll make it through all nine exams. You're right about the immense pressure omletta (possibly the same institution). I said to DD today that the university has already provided her education so she's got that in the bag; it's simply a bonus if her final grade reflects her ability. If it doesn't (and she hates exams), then that's just too bad. Now to organise sweet pea delivery number two, for week two!

Good luck to all your off spring, and ultimately an awful lot does come down to luck at this stage.

Some of mine are in agony having do done too many practice, timed (3hour) essays but they really, really want it and come graduation day I shall be as proud as their parents.

Don't forget Molio that special arrangements will have been made from some students on medical grounds which will impact the number of students sitting in the 'normal' location. Depending on the institution this can vary widely - but us most definately a grown trend. Lots of these will be last minute adjustments too, so empty seats are quite usual.

Thanks omletta. Yes two of DDs friends gets an extra hour. That's a more positive explanation than that some poor students felt they couldn't go through with it. Though obviously I'm well aware that that too does happen :(

Agree - good luck to all with exams still to go.

It is quite frightening that three years of study are coming to an end with only 7/9 days of exams. (Suspect DD wears a darker blue.)

Good luck to all DC with exams (and here's a Wine for the tutors, before the marking marathon). Adaptation of chemenger idea!

Nine days is the largest number of exams at DDs place Lambstales. The number of exams in the third year varies enormously between subjects. Hers is one where it's all examined at the end, with a max of 5% accounted for by a dissertation. To my mind it's an absolute marathon, and nine exams at this level in eleven days is just - well at least worth sweet peas and a carrot cake. My own finals were divided almost evenly between the second and third years - seems a breeze compared to the DDs, though I don't remember feeling it was a breeze at the time.

We wear a very light blue here Grin

I do remember the feelings of utter fear and panic, then the shrug!

Molio Must be science subject....

Thought so Grin

Yes, we're on the dark side for sure. No not science, artsy. I've heard nothing about today's exam and told her I wouldn't phone, that I'd leave it to her. Wanted to sound cool and not have her think I'd pester. Anyhow I haven't phoned, despite badly wanting to. I'm not like this with school exams, only finals. And tbh I don't care how they do, only how they are.

Lambstales · 07/06/2014 21:20

Well she has survived, so far! Just... Is quite amused at all the tourists and the fact that she might be in the background of a TV detective series as she's wandering around in her sub fusc. early on a Saturday morning.

DD has a day off on Sunday and then another two exams on Monday and Tuesday.

Forgot DD had an exam on Friday but heard all about it on the phone today. Feeling a bit dreadful as concerned that lack of the usual prayers may affect marking outcome.
Did however remember Good Luck cards to DD and co-tutees some weeks back. (Hoped this meant that co-tutees would share excellent essays and notes etc)
Have had food and visits declined till after exams, though very tempted to take up proper home cooked ethnic meal and fresh mangoes and almonds to enable the DD's brain to function optimally.
She says she is suffering from cabin fever and personally I put this down to the omnipresent ernest postgrad boyfriend with a first from the light blue place, as well as not enough time revising in the beautiful gardens at the dark blue place. She says gardens are distracting.
I have asked the head gardener to please grow me some cuttings so as to take away a memory of the amazing place. This he has promised to do.
Another exam to come next week then all over. Have made mental note to buy silly string, confetti and balloon saying something like 'All over' or some such. Am hoping that local shops will have the required balloon. Have been advised that rose petals are OK but flour is not so am deadheading the prolific roses at home tomorrow.
Planned to have the house spick and span and newly decorated for homecoming of darling daughter but decorators are all behind with the work so the house is upside down.
Crashed the car twice this week. This had nothing to do with finals at all. However it means I will be going up by coach to embarrass and hug my loved one.
So happy that she is coping so far and hope she does the place proud. She says she is scared she'll let her tutors down. They have apparently been amazing.

funnyperson · 08/06/2014 00:23

Incidentally DS has finished his finals last week.
He has started bringing stuff home. He looks exhausted and in need of country air and long walks. Poor thing he is very very sad to be leaving Bloomsbury and although he wants to travel the world still doesn't quite want to stop reading and researching either. I suspect he will go on and do a postgrad degree.

Lambstales · 11/06/2014 22:10

DD had a great last exam. ALL the students of that subject finished at the same time (200ish)? One of the few subjects where this happens.

They all met up in a designated area to be bombarded by those students without exams. (Classics?) The street cleaners were there waiting but her crowd went back to the college to sit on the lawn and drink lemonade with lots of additives!
